Chapter 14
(Y/n) waited patiently at the door for either Hau or Silver to answer. It was the familiar green haired boy that swung the door open with great enthusiasm, pulling her into the home without a word. "Hau, what-??!"
"It's a miracle, (y/n)!" Hau exclaimed as he dragged her to the kitchen. Her Pikachu, using as much of his weight as possible, pushed the door shut behind her. "I've never tasted a malasada like this before in my entire life!" The obsession he had over the specialty was absolutely normal at this point, but for him to be talking about it now of all times was just a bit out of the ordinary. At the very least, (y/n) had expected a greeting of some sort when he had opened the door.
"Alola, Hala," (y/n) quickly spoke to Hau's grandfather who was comfortably reading in the living room. His reply was faint as she and Hau passed him by.
"Look at these beautiful creations," Hau gushed. "You've got to try one."
(Y/n) hadn't even taken the time to look at the neatly made treats. Instead her attention was on the person behind the counter who was still carefully mixing ingredients together to make yet another batch of these curiously colored Malasadas. "Silver? You can cook?" He hadn't exactly mentioned that skill to her in his explaination of his life.
Without looking back at her, he raised a hand to quickly make the hand gesture for more or less. His focus on his task was something she hadn't expected. It was only when her Pikachu jumped onto the counter did she look away. "He asked how they were made, and I told him. I didn't expect him to actually try making them." Hau took a bite of one of the already prepared malasadas. Half of the batch was missing already. "Absolutely heavenly," Hau praised. "I'm keeping him. He's my personal chef now."
(Y/n) couldn't help but laugh a bit. This was certainly helpful information. In fact, she now knew the perfect place for Silver to apply to. "They look really good." She picked one up, immediately noticing its perfect fluffy texture. Hau's description of them was on point. How in the world had Silver acquired this kind of skill?!
"Before you ask, no way am I letting him share the recipe. He put a little extra of something in there. It's a secret!" Hau claimed. She wasn't going to ask, but she did agree that this needed to remain a secret. Who knew what would become of the malasada industry if they were to get ahold of this.
"I was just going to ask if we were still going to the city to shop today, but I know making these takes a while. We could always go tomorrow once I finish with my own duties." (Y/n) unconciously grabbed two more, giving one to her Pikachu and nibbling on the other. "It's Silver's call since he's the one that needed to go. We have the rest of the day though, so you can take all the time you need." If it was left up to Hau, he might give into greed and have Silver make malasadas for the rest of the day. Or maybe not, but one could never be certain when Hau and malasadas were involved.
"I'll go. Just let me finish this first," Silver spoke up although his focus was still on his task which was quite impressive. (Y/n) and Hau watched him work until he had completed another batch. These were closer to the malasadas that (y/n) and Hau were used to, but still just as good as the alternate kind that Silver had initially created. Yes, the both immediately tried one. Even Hala was in the kitchen to sample the treats by the time Silver was done.
"You've got a natural talent, young one," Hala said.
Silver timidly thanked the man before sneaking off to change his clothes. He returned in yet another black t-shirt, making (y/n) glad that they were about to go shopping. There was nothing wrong with the shirt itself or the way it clung to his figure a bit more than the previous one. "What? Why did I-?" The summer heat would burn right through him if he just wore black t-shirts all the time.
"We'll be back, Hala. I won't take Hau away for too long," (y/n) announced as the group got ready to leave.
"He'll be fine, don't worry about him," Hau laughed. Behind his playfulness of the matter was the fact that Hau did worry about his grandfather especially after being appointed to take his place as the island's kahuna. That was something that only could happen once the previous kahuna could no longer perform their duties.
The walk to Hau'oli City was full of greetings from the locals. More of the town's children came to her bearing gifts, most of which were handcrafted necklaces or bracelets. Some were even placed on her Pikachu. She accepted them all with gratitude and specifically gave each of the children words of encouragement to keep them from fearing the attacks from the mysterious pokémon. Of course, the villagers also greeted Hau as well. He just received fewer necklaces than she did.
"Why do they call you that? What does it mean?" Silver finally asked her once they had reached the outskirts of Hau'oli City.
"It's what I am to them, electric lady. Because of my ability and the time I spent training with Tapu Koko before we became well acquainted, I've become this islands secondary protector. I'm kind of like a messenger for the people to Tapu Koko. I wasn't very keen on the idea at first, but over time it started not to bother me." (Y/n) pointed at her flower crown. "I give them a sense of security. For me, that's more than enough."
Silver gave a thoughtful hum. "Kinda like the kimono sisters," he mumbled to himself. "Well no...they're definitely different. Nothing alike." (Y/n) didn't need to ask who they were. Silver had mentioned them with a brief description during his recollection of past events.
The trio arrived at the mall and immediately made their way to the apparel store. "Everything is on Lil- I mean me," (y/n) said to Silver. "You can get whatever you want."
"Oh, you don't have to do that," Silver humbly declined.
"I insist," Hau stepped in. "Seriously, it's the least we can do for those amazing malasadas." Though it did take quite a bit of convincing, Silver finally gave in. Hau was the main one helping Silver chose his new wardrobe. He had Silver try on different outfits and brought him out to (y/n) to approve or disapprove.
Hau was bringing Silver back for a fifth time with an entirely different outfit. Before (y/n) could even say anything, not that she'd have been able to, Silver spoke up of his own accord. "I like this one," he mumbled, voice quiet and head down as his hands clung to the rim of his shirt.
He had taken his hair back down to put on a black hat with a Pikachu icon on the front of it. His shirt had horizontal black and white stripes going across it with the words "Quick Attack" seemingly painted on it in red. With it, he wore a pair of dark gray jean shorts and black fingerless gloves. (Y/n) didn't mean to stare, but she couldn't help but take notice of how well the outfit fit him.
"I...think it looks great on you," (y/n) finally spoke. Hau was grinning from ear to ear and slung an arm over Silver's shoulder.
"Definitely going to keep this one." Hau turned them around and headed back to the dressing rooms. (Y/n) could have sworn she saw him glance back at her with a wink. "We'll be back soon!"
They ended up getting Silver four more outfits, a few t-shirts, and a hoodie with the sleeves cut off of it. Hau snuck in two new shirts of his own, and (y/n) took the opportunity to grab a hoodie without sleeves as well.
"Is it really okay for me to wear this now?" Silver wondered, looking at his new apparel. It was the same outfit that (y/n) had been so fixated on.
"Of course it's okay to wear it. It's yours!" Hau claimed. They were heading back home now, but there was one place that (y/n) wanted to stop at.
"The malasada shop. We need to go there. I have an idea," (y/n) announced. She linked her arms with Hau and Silver and began to pull them towards the shop's building. They were the ones carrying the bags, so she didn't had to worry about that. She didn't explain anything to them until they had made it to the other side of the city and could see the shop up ahead. "It's for Silver. I think this might work out especially now that we know he can make them."
Silver's eyes widened in surprise. "A job?" he asked just to be sure.
"Yep, and they're hiring!" (y/n) quickly celebrated upon seeing the help wanted poster in the distance on one of the shop windows. "Hau, I need you to vouch for him. They're sure to take your word for his skill." She let them go just before they reached the door. No one was currently present in line, but there were a few people sitting at the tables. Before she could say anything, her phone rang. "Oh, it's Lillie. Sorry, but I've got to take this. Hau, I'm counting on you." She left the two boys to fend for themselves as she stepped out of the store, her Pikachu not far behind her. They'd be fine. Silver was going to get the job without a doubt.
