Chapter 11
Silver was unbearably hot. His hair uncomfortably clung to his neck, and sweat was beginning to stain his black shirt. It didn't help that the sun was harshly shinning on them. The walk to the Ruins of Conflict was short, and Silver could already see the cave entrance up ahead of them. (Y/n) had kept her pokémon out and was carrying Togedemaru in her arms. Since she was slightly ahead of him, she probably didn't see how much he was being harmed by the weather difference.
With a stern bark, Lycanroc stopped in his path. Another bark sounded from her, alerting (y/n) of the situation. "Huh? Silver, you okay?"
He wanted to lie. In fact, that's what he intended to do, but the heat had muddled his thoughts making him desire nothing more than relief from the sun's assault. "No, not really. It's so hot out here," he admitted. (Y/n) sat Togedemaru down and approached him, reaching into her trainer's bag to pull out a hair tie.
"Hopefully this works." Silver froze as she reached out and pulled his hair away from his shoulders. Then she went behind him to pull the red locks into a ponytail, leaving some of his bangs to hide his face. He wasn't sure if she had done that on purpose, but he was grateful for it. "Here, this is my last one, but I'd rather you have it." She handed him a bottled water and picked up Togedemaru again. It was cool to the touch, perfect for alleviating the heat building within him. "We'll keep out of the sun for a bit once we get there so you can cool off," (y/n) assured before she began to lead the way once more.
"Thank you," he called after her. Lycanroc finally moved and let him pass. The rock type's concern for him reminded him of Mewtwo, making him wonder what had happened to his companion.
"Koko! I brought a friend!" (y/n) called into the vast cavern. Vines covered the walls on either side of them, but the path ahead was free of any blemish or vegetation of any sort. The ruins didn't seem very ruined at all. "He's very strick about letting others see him, but as long as it's me bringing someone, he'll at least appear for a moment," (y/n) said to Silver.
They followed the path into another door-like opening bringing them to an open area with what appeared to be an alter. There were shrubs surrounding the narrowed path and an intricate plant pattern fanned out behind the alter area. "It's really nice," Silver mumbled. Johto's ruins had been damaged as far as he remembered though the mysterious air of the place was familiar in both areas.
"Strange...he's usually waiting for me up there." (Y/n) suddenly flinched and backed away from Silver. He looked at her, puzzled by her reaction. "You're friend. That must be it. He's here isn't he. I felt it again," she spoke. Her voice was shaking and she looked at him as if he might hurt her.
"Mewtwo? He hasn't said anything." Silver looked around in bewilderment. "Mewtwo? Are you there? It's okay for (y/n) to see you. I think we can trust her."
"And that is the problem." It was the first time Silver had heard Mewtwo's voice ever since leaving Kanto. He sounded angry and threatening. "Since when do you trust in people?"
A flash of light appeared, shooting from the alter faster than the eye could see, but it was stopped as Mewtwo materialized in front of Silver to stop the attack. No, Mewtwo had already been standing there and simply revealed his presence. The two pokémon clashed briefly before Tapu Koko was thrown backwards by Mewtwo's force.
The pokémon was about to attack again, but (y/n)'s Lycanroc jumped between the pokémon to stop their fight. (Y/n) went to Tapu Koko's aid to check the deity pokémon for any major wounds. Tapu Koko was fine, but Mewtwo wasn't done. He threw Lycanroc aside with with a blow of psychic energy, knocking the pokémon into the surrounding bushes. "Mewtwo! Stop, what are you doing?!" Silver quickly moved to stand between Mewtwo and the path to (y/n).
"Silver, what's going on?" She looked betrayed. He didn't know, nor did he understand. Why had Mewtwo suddenly appeared now of all times, and why was he attacking?
"You are making a mistake, and I am stopping you. Now move, or I will move you myself," Mewtwo spoke aloud, projecting his inner voice to both Silver and (y/n).
"No, you don't need to-" Silver was lifted out of the way and placed behind Mewtwo before he could finish speaking. "No, don't!"
Tapu Koko met Mewtwo's force with equal power this time, forcing the physchic type to take a step back in order to keep from being overpowered. Silver had to shield his eyes from the sparks that were sent flying from the attack. Mewtwo, now enraged, increased his own power and blasted Tapu Koko away again but sent Shadow Ball hurtling after the now hurt pokémon. It was the exact same direction that (y/n) was in. "No!!" Silver scrambled to his feet and reached out to catch Mewtwo, but was pushed by an invisible force.
(Y/n)'s Marowak took the attack, leaping in just in time to buffer it with flames. It still landed, but Marowak stood protectively in front of his trainer using every bit of strength he had left to stay put. Silver got up just as Lycanroc lept up from the shrubs at Mewtwo only to be knocked back again. She released a whimper of pain and didn't move. "Mewtwo, stop it right now!!" Silver yelled but he was promptly ignored.
"Stay out of this." Mewtwo directed a wave of pure energy at Pikachu and Togedemaru who had both followed up after Lycanroc's failed attack. The wave not only hit them, but shot towards (y/n) as well. It was somewhat relieving to see that Tapu Koko was fast enough to block the attack from harming (y/n) and her Marowak, but Silver didn't stay put to let this play out. Rather than trying to stop Mewtwo, he dashed past him and went to check on (y/n). Tapu Koko took that personally.
"You idiot!" Mewtwo snapped. The pokémon teleported to stop Tapu Koko's speedy assault. There was no time for Mewtwo to throw out a counter attack, leaving Mewtwo open to the attack and even angrier. Mewtwo's entire body glowed in purple for a moment before he let lose a single blast of psychic energy. It shook the area, taking down Tapu Koko and harming anyone behind the guardian pokémon including (y/n).
Her pokémon were all down and yet Mewtwo didn't seem like he was going to stop any time soon. (Y/n) herself was in a daze and was attempting to get up from the ground. Silver could see red mixed into part of her hair and dripping down the side of her face as she held her hand out to attack on her own.
Silver snapped. Again he rushed to stand between Mewtwo and (y/n) now acting as the last line of defense for the girl. "I don't care what you think you're trying to do! You've done more than enough! Just leave!!" Silver yelled at Mewtwo as he lit the pokémon ablaze with the intensity of his glare. Mewtwo stopped and glared back at him.
"What fool allows themselves to fall into a trap of the same kind twice! I wouldn't have had to save your life the first time if you had just seen through that girl's lies, and now you're letting it happen again! Do you really believe you can actually trust people?!"
"I don't care!" Silver yelled. Tears were beginning to appear at the edges of his reddening eyes. "I chose to trust her. That was my choice to make! You don't have any say in that!! I'm sick of living in fear of people turning on me! For the first time since my father left me, I've felt like I've finally found somewhere safe!! Who are you to take that away from me!!?" Silver lifted his arms out to his sides to emphasize that he wasn't going to let Mewtwo pass. "I won't let you do whatever you want anymore!"
"You owe me your life, boy!!" Mewtwo snarled.
"JUST LEAVE!" He had yelled as loudly as his voice could carry him. Mewtwo actually looked hurt the outburst albeit briefly.
"Then don't blame me if you die this time around," Mewtwo snapped. He pushed Silver back with a blow of psychic energy just enough to knock the air out of him. Silver was left coughing on the stone ground trying to regain his bearings. When he looked up, Mewtwo was gone.
"(Y/n)," he thought aloud. He looked behind him to find her barely concious and wincing in pain. "(Y/n)!" He rushed to her side, ignoring his own pain to make sure that she was alright.
"Sil...? What? Why did you...?" Her voice was soft and quiet. She was just barely keeping herself awake.
"No, no, no, I didn't mean to," he cried. He carefully lifted her head from the ground and held her in his arms. "I didn't mean to, I'm so sorry."
"I...trusted you," she whispered. Silver could hear the same hurt in her voice that had been present in his own after Crystal turned on him.
"No! I'm not Crystal! I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry. Please, you have to believe me," he pleaded to her. He needed to find help. He had to save her in any way that he could to prove his words to her or else he really might begin to believe that he had become just like Crystal. "I'm going to help you," he promised her.
He never had any intention of going into her phone, but now he had no choice. Being the observant former theif he once was, Silver had seen her phone's password while they were on the ship. Now he entered it and immediately scrolled through her contacts to call someone for help. "Who's nearby?" Hau's name appeared towards the end of the list. Silver didn't care about the consequences. He was going to do the right thing and save (y/n) no matter what it costed him.
