Chapter 10
They had made their way to Iki Town as quickly as they could. It was still too early to be waking anyone up, so (y/n) brought everyone to her home rather than going to Hau's place. She would report the situation to him later.
"I can't believe you were so reckless," (y/n) scolded with concern as she wrapped part of Silver's arm in bandages. Apparently he had already been previously bruised there, but the attack had made the area even more sensitive. The reddened area was starting to fade into purple. The boy winced when she pulled the fabric around in a loop again.
"I wasn't being reckless. I've dealt with hurt pokémon before," he reasoned. "I was still prepared to take a scratch or two if necessary so this isn't so bad."
"Isn't so bad? Silver, that pokemon is capable of draining a generator meant to power an entire city, and that's leaving out the fact that Hau'oli is a small city! It could have attacked you with enough volts to stop your heart!"
"(Y/n)," Gladion called. She shot him a glare, mostly because she was frustrated, but she realized why he had called her when she saw the look in his eyes. "I get that you're worried, but it's over now. He's fine." Gladion kept his stare on her even as he took another sip of his coffee. Silver probably wasn't aware, but she was particularly fearful of people being harmed by electricity.
"I just thought it would work. I'm sorry," Silver spoke up. He didn't look at her, but she could faintly see the way he frowned. "And I thought Mewtwo would stop that pokémon if it got too close." There was that name again. Now (y/n) was more than just curious.
"Who is Mewtwo?" she asked. Silver's frown deepened.
"He's a friend of mine. I hoped he would still be nearby, but I guess he isn't. There's no way he would allow anything to get that close to me," Silver explained. He seemed angry at himself.
"A pokémon, I'm guessing." (Y/n) tied the bandage and cut the ends free. "If you can help it, try not to get hurt again." Then she handed his jacket back over to him, but he didn't put it back on. The sweat growing on his forehead let her know why.
"Thank you," he said before standing up and going over to where Gladion stood in the kitchen area. His bag was there. Perhaps he was looking for a change of clothes? Alolan weather was definitely a change from Kanto. Silver must have been feeling the effects ever since they arrived at Aether Paradise.
"Well, we've got the power restored. Now we just need to head to Professor Kukui's place, stop by to visit Hau for some information exchange, and see how the island guardian has been in my absence." (Y/n) glanced at the two tired boys behind her. "But that can wait. You two need to get some rest. We can just relax here for a while." She herself was tired as well, so she promptly sat on the couch and leaned onto the arm of it. (Y/n) didn't realize just how tired she was until she had drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up, Gladion was gone and Silver was sitting on the other end of the couch silently scrolling through his phone. He immediately noticed her shift awake and turned his attention to her sleepy gaze. "We already went to see the professor while you were asleep," he informed. "Gladion already left to go back to Aether Paradise. He told me to give you this." Silver handed her a note.
"Sorry, (y/n). Professor Kukui wasn't there. Silver's going to stay with Hau until we figure something out. I'll see you tomorrow," the note read.
"Oh, I didn't mean to sleep for so long." She knew it was because of the amount of electricity she had generated. That kind of power wasn't given without drawbacks. Resting was required so that she could recharge or else she risked harming herself. "Does Hau already know about this arrangement?"
Silver nodded. "He said it was okay if I stayed here until you woke up." He looked away from her. "Gladion told me that you might not wake up until nighttime, so I'm glad you're okay now."
"Huh? Then, what time is it right now?" (Y/n) looked around for her own phone forgetting that Silver already had his.
"Three in the afternoon. Hau came by and left you some masa...malsasla..." Silver went quiet at his failure to pronounce the new word. If it weren't for the way his cheeks burned in a pecha pink color, she would have laughed at him. Luckily, he wasn't looking at her so he didn't see her grinning in amusement.
"Malasadas. They're his favorite food. Have you tried one already?"
"They're really good," Silver quietly spoke with another nod. "I've had something similar before, but it's definitely different than what I'm used to."
"Really?" (Y/n) was surprised until she remembered that Silver was from Kanto. The food had been different there, so of course malasadas were somewhat new to him. "There's all kinds of awesome food here in Alola. When I get the chance, I'll take you around to all of the different islands so you can try everything. We could fly there. That way you won't have to worry about any boat rides."
Silver met her gaze, blinking in confusion. "You would do that for me?"
"Hm? Of course I would. We're friends now. It's the least I can do." She wondered why he was baffled by the offer. Did people in Kanto not do this? No, that couldn't be the case. Everyone had been more than willing to go out of their way for her, Lillie, and Gladion while they visited. "Silver, I don't know what happened to you, but I do want you to know that here in Alola, all you need to do is ask if you ever need anything. If I can't do anything, then I'll find someone who can. Everyone here helps one another." The way his lips quivered had her thinking that he was about to cry. Before she could say anything more, he looked away mumbling words of gratitude. "Just what happened to you?" she wondered.
"Actually, there's something I needed to ask you." He looked back at her with a glint of determination in his eyes. "I want to find somewhere to work. Anywhere is fine. I'll do anything."
(Y/n) recalled the bandages that she had placed on his hands. They were no longer there, but the one on his arm was perfectly visible, reaching up to the beginning of his black t-shirt sleeve. "I'm not sure yet, but I can't just let you work anywhere. At least, not anywhere where you'll hurt yourself. I'm only guessing, but those bruises that you had on your hands were from a different job, right?" He nodded in confirmation. "It would bother me if I sent you somewhere like that knowing what would become of it, but don't worry. I'll ask around for you."
Silver seemed to be perfectly fine with that answer, much to her relief. She wasn't sure how sensitive to rejection he was, so she was afraid to tell him no in any sort of way thinking that it might damage his emotional state.
To keep them from drifting into an strange moment, (y/n) brought out one of her pokéballs. "Want to see my pokémon? I don't think there are any like them in Kanto. Well, except maybe my Pikachu."
Silver's eyes grew wide in anticipation. "Yes, please," he said, speaking a bit louder. The way his entire mood radiated purity had (y/n) pausing to stare at him. He didn't seem to notice, so she was able to snap out of the temporary daze to release her Pikachu. Then she released her Togedemaru followed by her midday form Lycanroc and alolan Marowak. "That one's a different color," Silver noted, pointing at Marowak.
"Oh, then Marowak must be in Kanto too. They have a different type here in Alola so that's why he looks different," (y/n) explained. Silver smiled to himself as he reached out a hand to the pokémon around him. Lycanroc was the first to go to him, not hesitating to rub her head against Silver's hand. His smile grew wider as he pet Lycanroc. (Y/n) wondered if he had pokémon of his own seeing that he was so good at handling them. She didn't bother to ask though just in case it was something he didn't want to talk about. Afterall, he had mentioned dealing with hurt pokémon, so it must not have been associated with good memories. "I have one more, but he isn't here. I can't take him with me because he's this island's guardian. I'd feel bad if he wasn't here to protect the people, so I keep his pokéball with me while he roams the island as he pleases."
Silver gave her a look of understanding. "You don't want anyone taking advantage of him in your absence."
"Yeah, that's exactly why." Perhaps this was the same for him and his pokémon friend, Mewtwo. "Do you want to meet him? I can take you to the Ruins of Conflict and then walk you to Hau's place afterwards. It's not far from here."
"Ruins of Conflict? Are ruins in every region...?" he muttered. He must have been thinking aloud. He got (y/n) curious about whatever ruins he was referring to. "Can we go now?"
"Now? You mean right now?" She would have to take him to Hau afterwards. It bothered her from some reason, but she didn't let it show. "Sure, we can go see him now. I had to go today anyway at some point."
