"heya eds!" i heard richie yell from behind me. i took out my headphones and turned my head to see him jogging towards me, so i slowed down.
"hey richie" i said, yawning after the long day of school. i lifted my backpack straps up higher on my shoulders since i could feel them slowly falling down and then i paused my music.
"so uh, i was wondering if you wanted to hang out later, or something, like go to the park or something?" he said, staring down at the ground as we walked along the pathway.
"like a date?" i asked, looking up at him from the side and smirking, watching his eyes widen after i asked that.
"i mean, if you want to it to be, yeah," he said quickly, glancing at me.
"real smooth. what time?" i looked up at him and watched him smile.
"wow i wasn't expecting you to say yes," he laughed, draping his arm around my shoulders. "and uh, how about 6? i just found a really pretty part of the park the other day, maybe we could go watch the sunset or something. ill be at your house at 6." he said, clearly super excited, guess im full of surprises.
"see you then." i said, stopping when i got to my house and waving goodbye to him as he continued walking down the road to his house. i walked inside and was greeted by my mother.
"eddie bear, who was that outside you were talking to? was that richard?" she asked, clearly not happy. i had to come up with a lie.
"yes, he was asking me if i wanted to come with him to bills house this evening to work on a group project we have. i said i had to ask you first. can i please go?" i asked her as nicely as possible to try to stay on her good side.
"well, i guess so. as long as you're back by 9. and no walking back by yourself." she said sternly.
"okay mommy. im going to go to my room now to work on some of my other homework." i said, lying and running up to my room.
i set my backpack down and decided to plan for tonight. it was already 4:00 so i didn't have to wait too long.
i knew id have to take my backpack with me or else my mom would be curious and she would know something was up, so i decided instead of schoolwork, id pack a blanket, camera, and a jacket.
i changed into my clothes for tonight, deciding on converse, dark blue denim jeans and a long sleeve light yellow sweater. it had a small planet in the corner of it on the opposite side of my heart with little stars around it, it was my favorite one.

it was almost six, so i grabbed my backpack and went downstairs to find my mom asleep on the rocking chair.
i decided to write her a note knowing that if i didn't, she'd be very paranoid if she woke up and i wasn't there. she'd probably never let me leave the house again, honestly.
i walked outside, quietly closing the door behind me as i saw richie across the street and making his way over to me.
once he saw me, we waved at eachother and he jogged across the street to get to me faster.
"what's with the backpack?" he asked, giggling and wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"i told my mom we were going to bills house for a project soooo..." i said.
"oooh you're lying now? im a bad influence." he teased while laughing.
"shut up richie, you're lucky cause i have a blanket in there incase we get cold."
"aw darn, i was hoping you'd get cold so i had an excuse to cuddle with you but now that you have a blanket..." he dragged on jokingly.
"oh stop, we're going to watch the sunset. also my mom wants me back by 9, can you please remind me to keep an eye out because i don't want this to be the last time i leave the house alone." i said, sighing and then wrapping my left arm around his waist.
"yeah sure, i'll try to. you're gonna love the spot i found. it's such a big park so i don't know if anyone else really knows about it." he exclaimed, visibly showing how excited he was to show me it.
"you're cute when you're excited about something." i said, grinning. he looked down to try to hide his blush and didn't respond. a few minute later, we arrived at the entrance of the park.
"alright, it's over this way." he said, dragging me along a few paths and then taking me up a hill through a small patch of trees. at the top of the hill was a perfect view of the sunset and there were multiple flower bushes around.
"holy shit, this is beautiful how'd you find it?"
"i saw it from down there and tried to find it and yeah." he said, pointing off the edge to a part of the park with a small stream, a few benches and a few rock structures.
"its nice and private too." i noticed how there were no paths right next to it so nobody would be walking right by us.
"why, were you planning something?" he asked, winking and nudging my arm. i rolled my eyes at him and took my backpack off to lay out the blanket.
"did i happen to say yet that you look really cute in that color?" he asked, watching me as i straightened out the blanket.
"no.. but thank you." i replied, taking a few steps to reach him, putting my hand on his cheek and going on my tiptoes to kiss his other cheek. i walked back towards the blanket to sit down and could see in the corner of my eyes that he was blushing which made me laugh.
i patted the blanket next to me, telling richie to come sit down, which he did. i brought my backpack next to me and unzipped it, pulling my camera out since the sun was starting to go down.
richie and i both sat criss cross towards the front of the blanket and i leaned my head against his shoulder as i took a few pictures every few minutes when the sky would slightly change.
soon enough the sky was a mixture of reds, oranges, purples, light blues, etc. it was the prettiest sunset i've seen in a long time.
after the sun went down, i checked the time on my watch and saw it was 7:45 so i had a decent amount of time before i had to go home. richie started talking to me about random things and as i was listening, i started picking at different flowers around me. a few yellow ones, red ones, purple ones, they were all so pretty.
in the middle of richie talking, i got an idea. i leaned forward and stuck a flower in one of his curls. this made him stop talking and give me a questioning look, eyebrows furrowed with a slight smile.
"what are you doing?" he asked.
"making you look prettier, just hold on don't mess with it till i get a picture!" i said, leaning closer to him and concentrating on his hair as i stuck a few more colorful flowers in his curls and one behind his ear.
when i was done, i kissed his forehead before sitting back and pulling out my camera as richie sat there looking shocked and dumbfounded. i snapped the photo and looked at it, smiling wide.
"you look so cute." i said, giggling, staring back and forth between richie and the photo.
"oh, how the tables have turned, huh?" richie asked, thinking about how he's always the one calling eddie cute. "you sound like a mom." he said, taking the flowers out and flinching as they tugged on the knots in his hair.
i put my camera in my backpack and zipped it back up before richie pulled me into his lap, with my back against his stomach and my head on his shoulder.
i moved slightly to get myself more comfortable, snuggling against him and moving my head to the crook of his shoulder, causing him to shiver and move his neck.
"your breath is tickling me." he looked down at me with a crooked smile, scratching his neck and pulling me closer again.
"my bad." i smiled, my right arm was curled up by my face and i moved my left arm around his other shoulder.
"i think this first date went well." i said quietly.
"yeah i think so too, maybe we should go on more just incase." richie said and i could feel him smiling.
"yeah definitely."
that night, i went to bed with a smile on my face.
