BDubs was woken up by his roommate shaking him violently. "BDubs! There's- check the Recap thing, there's, uh- guys!"

The brunette sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes as Jimmy stepped away from him. "Oh that's hilarious. There's guys? Really? Nooo." His winged friend let out an irritated huff, producing his phone (the screen of which was heavily cracked from Jimmy's clumsy endeavours) from his pockets.

"Not what I meant." Jimmy snapped back in a tone that was almost a shout. "Look!" He tapped his phone hastily in an attempt to switch it on, sitting on the bed next to BDubs and shoving the screen in his face.

The brunette moved it a slightly further distance away- anything more than three centimetres would be preferable- and squinted at the device as a video started playing. A man with brown hair, dark blue eyes and slightly cracked glasses was talking at the camera.

"Welcome back to Vigilante Recap, where we... well... recap the shenanigans of everyone's favourite illegal heroes! My name is Pixl Riffs, our writer is Zloy XP and subtitles are by Lyarrah Kris." BDubs glanced skeptically at Jimmy, who grinned and nodded in a gesture that seemed to mean 'keep watching!'.

"Breaking news this week- two new vigilantes have been spotted!" BDubs let out a soft 'oh'. That is worth waking me up over, actually. He glanced at the time on Jimmy's phone. It is seven AM, never mind.

"A duo going by the names of Firefrost-" A picture split in two appeared on the screen- both sides of the pictures were the same man, but in one half of the picture he had bright yellow hair and piercing red eyes, and in the other half he had blue hair and icy blue eyes. "And Shadowskulk made their first public appearing yesterday, joining the vigilante list alongside Thanatos, Tempus, Shadow Queen and Canary."

BDubs stared at the screen as a picture of 'Shadowskulk' appeared-

And burst out laughing.

Jimmy shot him a confused look, pausing the video. "Uh- what's so- funny?"

He paused as he tried to talk between laughs. "That's- that's- oh, that's hilarious. That is quite obviously-" BDubs glanced over the features of Shadowskulk- plaited white hair, heterochromic eyes, a scar across on one eye, a mask covering his mouth and nose... "My ex Etho. Oh god, he's not even trying to hide it, bless him."

Jimmy stared back at him. "Ohhhh." He let out a small giggle as BDubs reached for his phone on his bedside table. "That makes sense."

He opened his texts, typing quickly.

BDubs switched the phone off, glancing at Jimmy, who was waiting and watching him expectantly. "Oh- sorry, press play-"

"You don't have to apologise for texting, man!" His friend said with a laugh, and BDubs smiled slightly as the video started playing again.

"As far as we can tell, Firefrost can choose between controlling fire and controlling ice, hence the two different forms." A low-quality video of Firefrost pausing as his hair changed from icy blue to fiery yellow played. "Shadowskulk, meanwhile, can... melt into shadows?" Pixl shot a confused glance off to the side, out of the shot. "Sloy, did you write this correctly?"

There was an irritated shout from someone clearly behind the camera. "Yes, Pix. You're- I wrote this at three AM last night, just roll with it." 'Sloy' grumbled.

Pix glanced back at the camera with an awkward shrug and smile. "Well, I guess Shadowskulk can melt into shadows. I'd describe it more as becoming silhouette-like or merging with the shadows."

A clip played of Definitely-Etho running towards a shaded wall and practically running through it- on closer observation, there was now an additional shadow shaped exactly like Etho that ran along the wall. The video faded back to Pix.

"Apart from that, the vigilantes have been surprisingly quiet this week! There was a scuffle recorded between Shadow Queen and Viridian, the ending of which is uncertain as Angel and Imp jumped in to finish off the fight, and we're pretty sure at least Thanatos fought off Maelstrom and Listener, who were seen a couple days ago fleeing from an alleyway that Thanatos later ran out of."

BDubs exchanged a skeptical glance with Jimmy, who rolled his eyes. "Mannn, they always give Cleo the credit." His roommate whined.

"I know, right?! Unbelievable, unbelievable. I know she's top of the vigilante list, both in public appearances and fights won, but still. Still." The brunette rolled his eyes as Pix continued speaking.

"That's all for this week. My name has been Pixl Riffs, and I'll see you all next week!" Jimmy switched his phone off.

"Well that was- something." BDubs said blankly, glancing down at his phone at another message from Etho.

Jimmy, who was reading over his shoulder, let out an excited noise reminiscent of a squeal. "You're bringing me too?!"

BDubs grinned. "Sure, why not? If you want to come along, that is."

"I'd love to! Is it like- right now, or-?" The brunette let out a sarcastic laugh.

"You're kidding, right? Clockers Cafe doesn't even open until 9am. And I need to sleep. So- begone." Jimmy rolled his eyes, getting up and walking out of the room as BDubs put his phone down and pulled the covers over himself.

He heard Jimmy mumble, "Alright, alright, get your beauty sleep then," and sat upright with a shout of protest as his friend giggled.

"HEY! JERK!"

I feel obligated by law to include a HC Recap cameo in every superhero AU I do

Also yeah BDubs and Etho are exes in this :D they're pretty much just best friends who tried dating and realised it worked better platonically
