Prologue.

January 6th, 2019, 2:59:06 AM EST.

A man is sitting on the brown couch of his home's living room with his 17 year old son, the only illumination being a small lamp on the end table and the Television, which was currently playing an infomercial. It was the last day of winter break before school began again, having been granted a snow day that morning. Breaking the near silence and the calmness of the scene, the two men hear a noise coming from outside, the father shushing his son despite him not making any noise.

"What's goin' on?" The boy asks his father, not realizing what was.

"Hold up." The father says, beginning to get unsettled. The sounds on the roof soon turned to singing, the words of which the father was all too familiar with.

"...What's wrong, dad?" The boy attempts to ask again, this time to be answered.

"She's on the roof."

The boy's eyes widen, realizing that there may be an intruder trying to enter his home!
"Wha-what are you talking about?!"
"Get the gun, Carter." The father says sternly.
"N-no! I don't want t-" Carter tries to retort, only to be interrupted by his father.
"No, get th-"
"Dad-"
"Get the god damn gun, Carter!" The father commands. Carter stares in shock.
"O-okay! Okay..." Carter says in a shaky, frightened voice before running upstairs to a red brick fireplace with a Break Action double barrel shotgun displayed over it.

As he loaded the shotgun, the singing could still be heard from outside, now being heard more clearly and loudly. At that moment, Carter realized that there was someone, maybe even something that was trying to get inside of his home with the possible intent to hurt his family! And since he was on the upper level of the house, it was right above him! After loading the shotgun, Carter froze. His family was in serious danger, he might lose his life! Or worse, his family. But he took a deep breath, taking a long look at the weapon he had in his hands. He knew that if he could just muster up the strength to pull the trigger, Carter could protect him and his family.
"Okay..."

Downstairs, the also terrified, yet determined and angry father donned a brown jacket and began to walk outside. The stirring around the house managed to wake a very small girl with long blonde hair, who rose from her bed,  and left her room to see her father's concentrated face, immediately striking fear into her heart. She held her stuffed teddy bear tightly, it being the only thing to ease her fear, even if it was only by a tad.
"Daddy, what's going on?"
"Just stay inside sweetie!"
"Dad..."
"Everything will be just fine!"
"Daddy, what-" The girl began to ask, but her father had already gone outside. At that moment, the extremely young girl felt just as much fear the other two men were. Accept unlike them, she was also confused about what was going on.

        January 6th, 2019, 2:59:40 AM EST
The father ran outside, the cold rain melting the now thin sheet of snow under his feet. The father looked to the roof to see exactly what he thought he would, a woman with dark skin in a Santa Claus costume singing. It was back. The thing that took everything from him.

The thing that killed his parents.

"Listen here, you witch! I told you to leave me and my family alone!" The father yelled to the monster on the roof.
"D-daddy, what are you doing?" The girl asked from the front doorway.
"I told you to stay inside, sweetheart!" The father says to the girl as Carter ran outside holding the shotgun.

"Dad, I got the gun! I don't know what to-I can't-"
"Take the shot, Carter!" The father yelled. Carter tried to gather the courage to shoot...

But he couldn't even gather the strength to aim...

Carter broke down crying.
"I-I can't do it!"
"I said take the blasting shot, Carter!" The father demanded, but Carter had been broken. He was a crying mess that couldn't respond.
"Gimme that!" The father said, taking the shotgun from Carter, who was crying still. He aimed at the thing on his roof without hesitation.
"Come on, hold still you killer..." The father said. He pulled the trigger...

But it didn't fire.

       January 6th, 2019, 3:00:00 AM EST.
Music began to build up, accompanying the singing.
"What? No no no no no! Come on! Come on, no!" The father yelled, desperately checking the shotgun for shells.

They were gone!

The father looked back at the thing on the roof, which started glowing! It was happening just like it did when it killed his parents! He looked back at the thing, his eyes widening with alarm. He screamed, that being the only thing he could do! As the music reached the chorus, the thing released a blinding light, evaporating the father but leaving Carter and his little sister, who was now screaming, in fear, unharmed! Carter ran inside, picking up the girl and carrying her to the basement, where the singing and music could still be heard.
"Carter, what's happening?!" The girl asked, now crying.
"I don't know!" Carter responded, hugging the girl tightly.
"Where's daddy?!"
"I don't know!"
After a few more seconds of music, the two siblings were left in silence.
"I-is it gone?" The girl asks Carter, still hugging him.
"I don't know. Stay inside, I'm going outside to check." Carter responded.
"O-okay..." The girl said, her eyes red with tears.

When Carter reached the main level of the house, there was no sign of either the singing lady or his father.
"Dad?" Carter called out.
No response.
Carter went outside, calling for his father once more, to no avail. After looking around for a short while, Carter spotted the Break Action double barrel shotgun that he failed to shoot lying on the ground. Carter ran to the shotgun, picking it up. After taking a long look at the now soaked rifle, Carter looked up towards the raining sky. One thing became clear to him...

...His father was dead.
