Discovering Jessica

(Jinx)

I grasped Jordan's arm tighter, earning a small whimper from her, when I heard those words. Steven isn't her real father. Gulping the air, I whispered shakily, "Wh-...What d you mean?" Hoodie jumped and turned to face me, looking panicked. "JINX," he shouted, eyes wide, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE???" Jordan yanked her arm away, rubbing the spot I'd been clasping.

"She came to get Rivereene," Scout whispered, appearing at my side. Everyone's head bowed down in silence, ashamed that I had overheard their conversation. Tears filled my eyes, and I quickly ran away from everybody. "JINX," I heard (y/n) shout, her feet running after me for the first few blocks. But I ignored her. I was too heartbroken to understand anything or care about anything. I just wanted to get away from it all. My eyes were so blurry, I had a hard time seeing where I was going. Everything seemed to rush by me in a speedy swirl of colors; I had no idea how fast I was running until I ran into something and fell backwards on my ass. Looking up at what I ran into, I saw the blurry outline of a person dressed in all black. "Miss Jinx," I heard Scout's voice say sternly, "That is no way to say hello to an old friend!" I rubbed my eyes clear, seeing Slenderman and Scout leaning over me with expectant looks.

"Sorry," I muttered, staring between the two of them.

"Jinx," Scout asked me, "do you remember anything from when you were human?"

I shook my head pathetically, waterfalls filling my eyes once more and relentlessly pouring down my cheeks. Scout crouched down to my height and patted my shoulder, whispering calmly, "Well Miss Jinx, I remember everything from back then. Do you want to remember?" Nodding meekly, I clenched my hands into fists and squeezed my eyes closed as Scout tore his suddenly-long nails deep into my skull.

My vision went blurry, before going snowy white.

When the whiteness cleared, I looked around to find myself in a small cottage. A woman dressed in old-time gear was stirring a pot over a fire, and a young male stood next to her chopping vegetables on the counter. I looked between the two of them, saying softly, "What year is it?"

The wooman looked at me, letting out an amused chuckle as she said, "It's 1739, dear. Did you forget already?" My cheeks flushed a dark red as I asked, "And you're my mother, right? And he's my brother?" She nodded quickly, returning her attention back to the pot over the fire. "Sweetie," my mother said with a begging tone, "why don't you go visit your father? It's that special day again."

I didn't have a clue what she was talking about, but I felt myself grin and nod frantically. Withiut waiting for any instructions or rules to follow, I bolted out the door. My feet were in control; I had no means of controlling them. On and on they led me, until I finally reached the base of an old oak tree. Curtains surrounded it, blending in almost invisibly with the tree itself.

Dark bindings were on the tree limbs, marking holdings that some animal had broken out of. And on the ground in front of the tree rested eight tiny boxes, and upon me opening them, I found small memoirs like that of a child.

In the newest-looking box, however, was a ring I could tell from anywhere. It was engraved with an infinity symbol bearing a tail sprouting from the center. My ring. This was mine. I slowly picked up the ring, jumping out of my skin when a voice shouted, "THIEF!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!" Letting out a shriek of surprise, I did a 180 to see a raggedy man holding a sword pointed at me. A bush crinkled, and another ten or so men stepped out at every angle, surrounding me.

Scared for my life, I backed un through the curtain and into the trunk of the tree as they all came closer. The first raggedy man came forward with a vile of the brightest and most sparkly of green liquid known to man-kind. He gave me a bemused laugh, pressing my shoulder into the tree trunk as he shoved the vile into my mouth.

I gagged on the disgusting liquid, feeling my stomach begin to expand. Falling to the ground, I felt something sharp run out of my palms, turning them over to reveal vines about two inches in diameter sprouting from the center. Every last part of me felt as if I was being both burned and frozen at the same time, creatjng an unbearable sense of pain.

I started to cry, only for the green liquid to start pouring out of my eyes. A few strands ran out the corners of my mouth, but they mainly stuck to my eyes. My head fell forward, and I saw green strands of hair in front of me instead of the purple I was used to seeing or even the light brown that had been there. ""You get the same treatment as your father," the raggedy man stated, "but instead of the tree getting the dose, you get it yourself!"

Right as I was about to give up hope, the vines retreated back into my palms, and my green hair turned back to normal as my eyes sponged up the glowing green liquid. I didn't know what was going on, but I was having trouble keeping my vision focused and my hearing from going out of whack. Why did I even come out here?

What was going to happen to me?

Will I ever see my mother again, ever see my brother?

Through my clouded thoughts, I saw a person in a black suit with extremely pale skin. Was that Slenderman? Could be, but the person was too short. Narrowing my eyes, I saw a bald head and a glowing red aura where their eyes should have been. The person attacked the people around them, and the people dropped dead like flies, the warm feeling of blood splattering over every visible inch of my skin. But my vision was still going, and my hearing got worse. But my surroundings didn't turn black, they turned green. Everything, merging into a neon shade of green.

Someone was talking, but I wasn't able to tell who it was or where it was coming from. All I could see was the never ending green light, invading my eyesight from every angle. "HELLO," I shouted, trying to escape the bright light. It was impossible.

"Cursed.........." I heard someone murmur.

"......incurable disease......"

"Sure to die soon....."

I felt my eyes begin to water, not knowing what I was hearing. And then suddenly, the green light disappeared and I was dragged into a room filled with people in 18th century doctor's gear. I saw myself laying on the table, looking fairly normal but a lot paler than I had been. "I can save her," someone said, their voice as clear as day. Turning my head to look at the voice, I saw Scout standing next to my body, his eyes the same dark blue I was used to. "I can save her," he repeated, glancing over at my "mother", "But there's a small problem. Not only would it kill me, but she wouldn't remember anything from her life."

My "mother" burst into tears, clinging onto my brother with puffy red eyes. "I j-just want my little girl back," she stammered, looking petrified. Scout nodded, turning back to me as he began chanting in a strange language. Five minutes of his chanting went by, and nothing happened. He stopped, looking defeated.

"For crying out loud," Scout murmured, "Just wake. Up. Hear me? You're supposed to be alive!"

A random doctor pulled a white sheet up over my head, calling out to the crowd of people, "I hereby pronounce Jessica, daughter of Julianna and Richard Williams and sister of James Williams, as dead." Everyone bowed their heads in remorse as the same doctor continued, "May she find her father in the afterlife and have a quiet, restful sleep. And may her curse not continue unto any of those she loves dearly." I sobbed a bit, covering my mouth and watching the scene play forth when I heard someone outside screaming like a banshee.

I turned my attention to the noise, seeing none other than Slenderman just outside the window, clawing at his head and screeching in agony. "NO," he shouted, his screeching getting more ear-piercing in volume. "NO, NOT MY OWN DAUGHTER!" he yelled, taking me by surprise. His daughter? Me??? I walked towards him with a hurried pace, but was quickly swept off my feet and spun into pain as the feeling of claws in my head rushed back to me.

I was back at Creepycon, Scout's claws in my head and Slenderman at my side. Avoiding Slenderman's gaze, I moved Scout's claws away and felt them heal immediately as I stood up and hugfed myself, murmuring, "I'm gonna go talk to Jessica for a second." As I started to walk off, a confused mutter from Scout and Slender made me continue, "I'm sorry, I meant Jordan. I don't even know who Jessica is."
