Story Time [Pt. 3]
The mass of demons surrounded Kai, all ready to tear the little girl apart. Not hesitating in the slightest, Kai lunged at them with shadows covering her arms. She clawed at all of them, not caring for the injuries she was getting. With each swing, more and more demons turned to dust.
"As much as I find this amusing to watch... I think it's time for me to end this," Zen announced, jumping and landing behind Kai. The demons had stopped attacking on Zen's silent orders. Kai turned to Zen, viscously growling at him. She stalked towards him on all fours, ready to claw his eyes out.
Zen smirked. He drew his katana, and held it in front of him. "Here, doggy~"
Immediately, Kai pounced at Zen. Right when she was in front of him, Zen swing his katana. He sliced Kai's body in half. He smirked, but then Kai's body disintegrated into a cloud of shadows. Zen's eyes widened. How did she do that? he thought. I didn't even see her make a clone...
While he was lost in thoughts, the real Kai attacked him from behind. She roared at him causing a huge wave a shadows to hurtle towards Zen. Zen snapped out of his thoughts only to find himself being launched into a rock. His back crashed into the wall of rock, making a slight crater. He fell to the ground, landing on his knees. Using his katana as a crutch, Zen shakily got up, dazed from the blow he just took.
The man snapped his fingers, expecting his demons to assist him. Nothing happened. He looked around. The demons cowered in fear, clearly afraid of Kai. Zen grit his teeth in frustration. Looks like I'll have to do this the hard way...
Despite his injuries, Zen stood up tall, raising his katana. Kai saw this as a threat causing her to growl loudly at him. Zen glared at the child, ready for whatever attack she threw at him. He channeled his magic energy into his sword, making it glow a menacing red.
"RAH!" Kai roared. She pounced at Zen, shadows enveloping her arms and legs. Zen expertly dodged the attack, appearing behind Kai. Kai's eyes widened, not expecting the sudden change in the man's reflexes. Taking advantage of the girl's inability to evade his attacks, Zen swung his katana at Kai. The blade cleanly sliced Kai's side, creating a deep cut her skin. Kai fell to the ground, clutching the wound which was painfully burning.
Zen chuckled. "So my predictions were true... You are a demon..." Lycan, still being in control of Kai's mind and body, was shocked. How did he know?
"Why, my magic of course~" Zen responded, reading Kai's, or rather, Lycan's mind. "I am the king of demons. I can control their every move. And I have the means to kill them with no effort whatsoever. What you just witnessed was Demonsbane. Although it'll have no effect on mortal beings, it is extremely dangerous to demons of any sort."
Kai, still having her part of her mind being blinded by rage, growled at the man. Shadows surrounded her body once again as she got ready to charge at Zen. Zen smirked, noticing her rage was overriding her commonsense. Despite all her injuries, Kai still wants nothing but to rid the world of Zen.
Shadows covered Kai's fists, and she punched the ground in front of her. Large cracks appeared in the grounds, head toward Zen. Just as the cracks reached Zen's feet, sharp stones shot up from the ground. Zen flipped back just in time to avoid getting impaled by one. Although, one did create a deep gash one his right leg.
Crap, he thought, knowing his mobility would be greatly affected by this. He looked up, and he saw that Kai was no where in sight. His eyes widened, worried by what the girl was capable of. Suddenly, he felt a dark presence behind him, and an immense pain in his back.
"Gah!" Zen grunted, falling to his knees in pain. He looked over his shoulder to see Kai, blood on her claws. Still not willing to give up, Zen sliced his katana at Kai. Kai dodged the attack with inhuman speed, but due to the Demonsbane, she was still cut across the chest.
Zen stood up once again, trying to ignore to searing pain in his back.
"You're very troublesome, you know that?" Zen stated, dropping his usual nonchalant and flirty tone.
Kai just growled in response, and got back in her attack position. Shadows had once again started to swirl around her. Zen got in a low stance, his sword raised.
The two charged at each other. Kai swinging her shadow covered claws, while Zen kept making attempts to cut Kai into pieces. She dodged each time, but the Demonsbane on the katana is what injured her.
After what seemed like endless hours of mindless fighting, the two wizards finally started to grow tired. Zen's swings got slower and slower, and shadows no longer surrounded Kai's arms and legs.
Both wizards stopped their attacks, panting and completely exhausted. Zen's shoulders were slumped forward, his sword low. Multiple gashes were seen on his back, and the rest of his body. Blood flowed from his mouth, and down the left side of his face.
Kai, although she seemed to have the advantage the entire fight, was in much worse condition. Deep gashes, cuts, and burns could be seen all over her battered body. If it weren't for the Demonsbane, Kai would've had close to no wounds on her body. A fair amount of blood flowed down the right side of Kai's face causing her to close her right eye. Blood dripped from her mouth, and all the cuts and gashes in her body. It's a miracle that she's still standing.
Finally, Kai charged at Zen one more time as to finish him off. Zen didn't move, knowing there was no way out of this. Kai pounced on Zen's chest, making them both fall to the ground. Kai hovered above Zen, one paw on his chest, and one on his chin, ready to snap his neck.
"Hey, doggy..." Zen said, causing Kai to bare her fangs at him. "Can I just say a few final words...?"
Kai didn't move, Lycan being a bit intrigued to what the man was going to say. Suddenly, Zen chuckled and Kai felt an unbearable, burning pain in her side. With the last of his energy, Zen had stabbed Kai in the gut with his katana. Also using the last of her energy, Kai snapped Zen's neck, instantly killing him. She shakily stood up, clutching the stab wound in her gut.
The mass of demons around the area stood there, not knowing what to do with no one controlling them. Soon, they scattered, thankfully none them headed toward the village.
Behind Kai, Katelyn had started to wake up. She slowly opened her eyes, and propped herself up on her elbows. What happened...? she thought, clutching her head. Katelyn slowly stood up, and looked around the area. Her eyes finally landed on Kai, and her eyes widened. She could see all the wounds on Kai's battered body.
"Kai...?" She said.
Kai's ears twitched at the noise. She turned her hunched body to face Katelyn. Still not being the one in control of her body, Kai didn't recognize Katelyn, seeing her as a threat. Kai bared her fangs at Katelyn, growling viscously. A dark aura surrounded Kai, worrying Katelyn.
"K-Kai? What are you doing?" Katelyn asked wearily, slowly walking backwards.
Kai said nothing in response, and slowly limped toward Katelyn. Shadows were gathering in her palm, preparing for an attack. Katelyn noticed this, but made no move to defend herself as to not anger Kai anymore.
"Kai... It's okay... We're okay... Zen's gone now..." Katelyn said, trying to calm Kai down.
Kai showed no signs of stopping her attack. A full ball of shadows had formed in Kai's palm. Her eyes glowed red, and she slowly raised her arm to attack.
Katelyn started to walk back faster, resulting her to trip on a rock, falling to the ground. She scooted backward, but Kai was going a faster pace than her. Soon enough, Kai was right in front of Katelyn, ready to attack.
Katelyn shielded her face with her arms, preparing herself for the blow. She felt nothing, but heard a grunt of pain and something clanging against metal. She cautiously lowered her arms, and looked up. She saw a slightly injured Erza holding Kai's heavily wounded, unconscious body. Her arms were back to normal, and shadows no longer constantly surrounded her body. Erza sighed as she carefully lifted up Kai bridal style, as to not hurt her even further.
"Katelyn... Are you okay?" Erza asked after a moment of silence.
"Uh... Yeah... Yeah I am," Katelyn responded, get up from the ground. "But what about Kai?"
"Let's just hurry back to our room, so we can patch up her wounds. After that we'll take her to Porlyusica, so she can take care of her further," Erza instructed. "I've... I've never seen this happen before."
"Me neither," Katelyn worriedly mumbled before turned back to her exceed form. She summoned her wings, and carefully flew Erza and Kai back to their hotel room.
Erza bandaged Kai's wounds while Katelyn gathered their bags. Erza told Katelyn to bring Kai to Porlyusica while she talked to the Mayor about the mission. Katelyn agreed, and turned to her human form to fly Kai to Porlyusica, so she could hold her safely.
As Katelyn was flying, she sadly looked down at Kai's heavily bandaged body. I can't let her be hurt like this... she thought. I can't let this happen again...
