prologue

Madame Tracy was a tourist who traveled around Europe in search of a new life. She'd been staying in London for three months, making friends, boozing, and making side money with some suspicious jobs. Aside from the unusual jobs, she was a bubbly lady with ambition beyond belief. Her smile lit up a room, her eyes kind and her voice meek and mild. She didn't deserve to go as she did.

The Young family was on a small family trip. They were staying at the hotel, leaving that day but decided to go down to the pool for a quick dip. Adam and Brian were running through the halls (despite Adam's dad shouting at them to slow down) at rocket speed, bolting to the pool. Towels were wrapped around their necks and their feet were bare. You could hear the feet's pitter-patter and the two encouraging the other to go faster from hallways away. Eventually, they reached the pool. Arthur Young caught up eventually and swiped the key card so the boys could go inside.

"Be careful!" The dad started before rolling his eyes and giving up, walking slowly in the path that the boys ran.

Arthur saw the two boys side by side, body stilled and frozen in place. The only thing on their bodies that moved were the towels swaying softly from their necks.

"Why are you two stopped there. . ." the father's voice trailed off as he came up behind Adam, seeing the scene that his son had already laid his eyes on.

Brian clutched his stomach and hobbled over towards the wall, throwing up. He had a tear streaming down his face as Adam stood there, emotionless. Arthur put a hand on Adam's shoulder and quickly turned his son's body to face his chest. The father dug Adam's face into his chest and wrapped his arms around the boy, as if he was somewhat protecting him from the scene ahead. Brian let out a few wails.

Before them laid a woman, Madame Tracy, face down in the water. Her body was lifeless and a tint of red stained the water she was invading. There was blood on the ring of the pool and on the cement around it. The door to the steam room was open, faint clouds exiting the room. There was blood on the glass steam door as well.

Arthur continued to clutch onto Adam, taking Brian into his grasp as well, "Lets. . ." He started with a quiet voice, "Lets call security," he slowly lead the boys out.
