Rvb S10 E16 "Opening Up"
Present/Valhalla
Grif comes walking out of Red Base, only to find Carolina standing by the exit.
Carolina: Hey, you. Orange one. Where's the rest of your team?
Grif: How should I know?
Carolina: You don't report in to each other?
Grif: Oh yeah. I mean, I get reports.
Carolina: You might be the worst soldiers, I've ever met.
Grif: Hey! I take offense at that! What do you mean, 'might be?'
Leo, Simmons and Sarge come walking up the river towards them.
Carolina: Here they come. Let's move out.
She turns and leaves.
Grif: Hey, guys! Did you find Lopez?
Simmons: Yeah. Donut nailed him into a board. He's staying here.
Grif: I thought Donut was dead.
Leo: He's actually been alive this whole time and not dead!
Sarge: Yeah, we really need to stop saying that.
Simmons: He almost was. But Doc fixed him up, and now they live together. They say hi, by the way. Oh, and they baked us this banana bread.
Leo holds out a plate holding a loaf of banana bread, with a card reading, "Hope you like nuts! -Donut & Doc."
Leo: They don't taste half bad.
Grif: How nice! I'm gonna have to forget to send them a thank-you card. Hey, Simmons, when you said Donut nailed Lopez to a board...
Leo: He means with nails, Grif.
Grif: Okay, had to ask.
Simmons: No, no, I understand. I-I should have been clearer. It's my fault.
Over to Wade, Tucker and Caboose approaching Carolina who's standing by a warthog.
Wade: Hey so, what's going on? We're leaving already?
Carolina turns to Wade. Wash is seen walking towards the other Warthog in the background.
Carolina: That's right. You got a problem with that?
Church appears next to Carolina.
Church: Uh, hey, Carolina, why don't you let me handle this?
Church leads the blues away over near the river.
Church: Wade, what do you want?
Wade: We just wanna know what you found out about, Carolina!
Tucker: Yeah, is she evil? Is she crazy? Is she crazy-evil?
Caboose: Is she pretty?
Tucker: Oh, yeah, is she hot? Ohohoh or is he a dude?
Church: Guys! I've got more important things to do right now.
Tucker: What are you talking about?! You're supposed to be spying on her! She's the enemy, remember?! Us against them!
Church: Hey, you don't know anything about her, Tucker! You have no idea what's she's been through!
Tucker: Since when did-
Church: Look! Would you guys just get in the fucking car so, we can leave already? Thank you.
Church disappears. Wade, Tucker and Caboose glance at each other. Zeta appears.
Zeta: What's up with him?
Tucker: No, fucking clue.
Wade: I'm starting to think he isn't spying for us anymore.
Back over to Carolina as Church reappears next to her.
Carolina: What was that about?
Church: Nothing. I need to talk to you.
Past/Boot Camp
It's been about half a year since the Railgun training. Ever since then, Leo's took every opportunity to practice with his newly acquired weapon. Over time he's improved to the point that he doesn't break his shoulder every time he fires the gun.
Ethan was amazed that Leo was able to keep such an "awesome weapon" he says. Racheal was pretty jealous that she wasn't able to have her own one Railgun. Though Leo was kind enough to offer her to have a shot with his one, that she gratefully accepted.
But immediately afterwards he took the gun off her because of her accidentally causing a fire... don't ask how. Anyway, as the days roll over Leo's gotten around to considering the two of them good friends that he can trust. But he doesn't know if he can trust telling them of what lead him here... until tonight.
It's been a exhausting hard day of training for Leo and his friends. In the morning was some intense exercise training of one hundred push-ups, one hundred sit-ups, one hundred squats and then a ten kilometre run. Leo couldn't imagine anyone having to go through that each day.
In the afternoon they finished the day up with some hand-to-hand combat. Out the three of them, Ethan wasn't the best fighter, but he has been recently getting better. As for Leo and Racheal, they both on par when it comes to fighting with hands, knocking each other to the ground. They both still trying to figure out who's the best fighter.
Anyway, all the trainees where chilling in their barracks and getting ready to hit the hay. As for Leo, Ethan and Racheal they were at their bunk area. Leo and Racheal sat on their bottom beds as Ethan was lying down above Racheal on the top bunk. Leo and Ethan were listening to Racheal telling another embarrassing story about Ethan much to his displeasure.
Racheal: -and once he sat down in class listening to the teacher for half an hour. (Laughs) He suddenly realises he's in the wrong classroom and quickly leaves as everyone looks at him, including the teacher.
Racheal clutches her stomach, while wiping tears out her eyes as Ethan is heard dying from embarrassment. Leo just laughs at the story, thinking how could he go into the wrong classroom?
Ethan: Are you done making me look like an idiot?
Racheal: I think I got a few more stories to tell.
Leo looks up at Ethan.
Leo: (Giggles) How did you mistake your English class for Maths?
Ethan: Look, I was extremely tired that day! Can we talk about something else, please!?
Racheal: Fine, that's probably enough embarrassment for you, tonight. What about you, Leo?
The two stare at Leo as he nervously shuffles his feet.
Leo: Sorry, But I don't really have anything interesting to say.
Racheal rolls her eyes, while Ethan sighs.
Ethan: That's what you say all the time, Leo!
Leo: I don't say that all the time!
They both give Leo a deadpan look.
Leo: ...Ok maybe, I say it sometimes.
Racheal: Seriously Leo, every time we try to get to know you more. You keep avoiding the question!
Ethan hops down from the top bunk and takes a seat, besides Racheal.
Ethan: Yeah man! We've told you a bunch of stuff about us!
Leo: Well yes, but-
Racheal: And we've even told you personal things about us.
Ethan: Most of those "personal things" were told without permission. (Fake cough) Racheal.
Racheal: Moving on! Why's it so, hard to tell us something about your life.
Leo just sits quietly, while the two patiently wait for an answer.
Leo: I... don't want to talk about it.
Ethan: Maybe, you do.
Leo raises an eyebrow at him.
Ethan: I read somewhere on the internet, that if someone says "they don't want to talk about it," it really means the opposite.
Leo and Racheal just stare at Ethan with blank looks.
Ethan: It might be wrong.
Racheal: (Sighs) Ethan, might be onto something. (Looks at Leo) If it's difficult to talk about, wouldn't you feel better, if you told us what's bothering you? Keeping this all bottled up inside you, will just be hurting you... and the people that care about you.
Leo just stares at her pleading look and see's Ethan join in to help her. Leo sighs in defeat.
Leo: Fine... you guys win.
Racheal and Ethan wear a victory smile, before they vanish seeing the sorrow look on Leo's face. He honestly didn't feel comfortable telling them, what he's been through and never once thought he'd actually be telling anyone about it.
Leo: Do you guys know why I joined the military?
Ethan: It was something to do with your mother, right?
Leo: She was most of the reason why, but I joined to get away from my father.
Racheal and Ethan glance at each other in worry.
Racheal: Why?
Leo: I ran away from him because...
Leo's breathing shortens as, he starts remembering the painful nights back at his old home.
Ethan: Hey...
Leo looks up at Ethan, with tears on the corner of his eyes.
Ethan: You don't have to continue, if you don't want to.
He was right, Leo could just stop from bringing up his painful memories and just go to bed... but deep down something told him, he needed to do this.
Leo: It's fine, Ethan I ran away from my father because... he's been abusing me.
Leo closes his wet eyes not wanting to see the reactions from his friends. Meanwhile, Ethan and Racheal has shocked and concerned looks in their eyes.
Leo: It started, when my M-Mum died. I don't understand why h-he did it, but he always said "It was my f-fault." Every day, I'd be hiding in my room in f-fear, wondering when the next beatings would come. I-I just wished he stopped, even my own S-Sister didn't help me and just y-yelled the same thing he says at me. I-I cried myself to sleep each night, until after one beating I couldn't take i-it anymore. So, I ran.
Leo finishes and starts breathing slowly, furiously wiping away the tears that escaped his eyes. It's been so, long since he's thought about those days.
The only reason he's been able to get through this Boot Camp each day is by repressing those memories. Leo then hers the sound of feet walking over to him and suddenly, feels his bed shirt and two pairs of arms embracing him.
Racheal: Sorry, for... forcing you to tell us.
Leo: (Sniffling) It's fine...
Ethan: Were really sorry for what happened to you, Leo we had no idea you went through that. Will always be here for you, if you ever want to talk about it more.
Leo smiles softly.
Leo: I'd actually like that.
Racheal: Didn't we tell you, you'd fell better by opening up?
Leo: Guess you were, right. Thanks guys, for being my friends.
Ethan: Anytime Leo, anytime.
Racheal: It's getting quite late now, how about we get some sleep.
Leo: (Yawns) Sleep sounds good, right now.
Ethan climbs onto his bunk bed as Racheal heads over onto her bed.
Ethan: Alright, see you guys in the morning and Leo?
Leo looks at Ethan.
Ethan: Just remember, that opening up to people is way better then suffering all alone.
Racheal: If you two don't go to sleep, I'll put you both in a chokehold again.
Ethan just laughs her off and lies down on his bed. Leo also lies down on his bed, feeling like there's been a weight lifted off his chest. Closing his eyes and falling off to sleep, his last thoughts are Ethan's words.
The End
