22: Code Red

"What the bloody hell, Hoseok? It has been two weeks already and you still hasn't done your deal!"

The angry man behind the phone ranted out at the worned out boy who only sighed.

"Sir, I am sorry but-"

"Don't sorry me! You are the worst person I have ever hired as an employee. You fucking ignored my calls all these days! Is that how you respect your Boss?"

Hoseok chewed his lower lip trying to remain calm while the man kept yelling and shouting at him for his carelessness.

"It would have been better if I gave this project to someone who is more responsible than you. You are such a useless man who couldn't even take care of his sister. Remember how you begged me to lend you sone money for her hospital expenses when she got into an accident. I wonder if your sister is even happy having a worthless brother like you-"

"I quit."

"W-what?" The other side of the phone fumbled in his words at the sudden words that interrupted him.

"I said I am fucking resigning from your shithole company. Now you and your work can go and fuck each other. Goodbye."

Before the baffled man could utter a single word, Hoseok hunged up his phone with rage and tears in his bloodshot eyes.

Those words he said about his sister were quite enough to make his last string of patience break apart. For years, he has been tormented by his Boss's behavior and slavery. He was done with him long ago but beared all the harassment done upon him because his job was the only source of income when Yuna wasn't doing any job. He wanted to keep her work-free and live her life happily under his vision. He wanted to protect her from any form of danger.

Her small injury would make Hoseok's heart torn apart. Her tears and sadness would want to punish himself. Her smile is the only reason he want to live till his last breathe. She is the reason for everything.

And now that reason is missing.
His little sister is missing.

Hoseok shook his head and harshly wiped out his wet cheeks stopping himself to cry more when his eyes laid on the clock hanging on the front wall above the TV as he remembered yesterday's evening incident.

{▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎}

"Mr. Jung."
Hoseok looked up at Haewon who slightly smiled and offered him a cup of water but he refused and muttered with dry voice.

"When Officer Kim is going to arrive? Has he gone to Busan to investigate about my sister?"

The man sighed as he gazed into Hoseok's red swollen eyes. He noticed how the latter was still wearing those same messy clothes when he came to complain about his sister for the first time. His face was completely worned out, filled with stains of dry tears and dullness. But, his eyes were still having some shine of hope. That his sister would return back to him all safe and sound.

And this was eating Haewon from inside because be knows nothing is being done by Namjoon to look those girls. He is just fooling him for God knows what reason.

"Mr Jung, I promise I'll contact you soon when Officer Namjoon will return back. You should really go back home."
Worriedness took over the police man seeing him getting weak hinting he hasn't eaten much.

"I can't-"

"No. You need to take rest because you are doing nothing but harming your own body. If you won't eat anything and wait all day, how will you get the strength to find your sister."
Haewon strictly adviced as he gently held Hoseok's arm who seemed to take in the officer's word.

"Bomgyu, could you please drop him at his house and buy some food on the way?" Haewon called out to his Junior who quickly stood up from his seat and nodded.

"You don't need to Officer. I can go by myself- Ugh!"
Bomgyu rushed to help Hoseok who was about to fall down because of weakness.

Haewon sighed and accompanied Hoseok till Bomgyun's car before helping him to sit on the passenger seat making sure to put the seatbelt around him.

"You should sleep till the way to home and Bomgyu will take care of you."
Giving a nod at his Junior, he stepped back as Bomgyu turned on his car and drive away from his eyes.

Rubbing his forehead, he made his way back inside the police station and eyed his senior's cabin making him sigh and guilty as hell.

He looked around the office to find it all empty since it was a weekend off and few officers are patrolling outside leaving him alone.

There was a sudden urge in his mind as he looked back at the cabin door. He wanted to have a look inside Namjoon's Cabin since he is also out patrolling.
He never let anyone come inside his cabin except the Chief. This was the good time to take a look around his cabin.

Guping down the nervousness, he checked around once again before slowly pushing inside the door and entering carefully.

Namjoon's cabin was very well maintained and clean. There were few files lying on his table beside the computer and on top of them was the recent kidnapping one occurring in the city. On the pinboard behind the chair were few pictures and writings of the cases and some informations regarding the recent incidents.

As Haewon squinted his eyes to look at one particular picture pinned on the board, suddenly a loud ring echoed in cabin that made his heart thumped out of his ribcage giving him a panick attack.

He quickly turned around ready to rush out of the cabin but immediately halted when he realized it was the sound of phone ringing. Blinking his eyes, he looked around to locate the ringing phone that wasn't there within his vision range.

"....."
The ringing stopped.
Haewon clicked him tongue in annoyance not able to find the phone and just decided to leave before be gets caught red handed.

But as he was about to leave, the phone ranged again gaining his attention back.

"Wait a sec-" He muttered and snapped his eyes towards the table carefully hearing the ringtone. It was coming from there but no phone was present on the table. He kneeled down and opened the drawers one by one but still didn't found the phone.

Without giving much thought he placed his hands under the table and tapped around until he gasped when his fingers touched the small sized rectangular thing that was taped to the table.

He plucked out the item revealing the small keypad phone which has again stopped ringing.

"Officer Namjoon stuck the phone to the table. To hide it? But why?"
Just when Haewon was comprehending about this, the phone's screen lit up with the notification of inbox message.

Though Haewon clearly knew whatever he is doing right now is illegal and would get him trouble but his curiosity was more than anything. This was suspicious of his senior to hide a phone underneath the table.

Battling through his thoughts, his curiosity finally won and he gulped down the hesitation and nervousness before pressing the key and opening the chatbox.
The next thing he saw made his heart drop dead on the ground with eyes protruding out in utter shock and surprise.

And Haewon wished he wasn't intelligent enough to knew what some of these messages meant.

Wiping the sweat bead forming on his forehead, he sinked his teeth in lower lip and looked at the owner of these messages but before be could take more information, his sharp ear caught the fainted siren of police car.

Panicking hard knowing Namjoon is back from patrolling, he fumbled with the phone and switched it off in hastily, sticking it back beneath the table.

As the loud sound was getting more closer, Haewon didn't wasted a single milisecond and rushed out of the cabin stumbling towards his table and quickly keeping his belongings in his back ready to go back home.

The man zipped up his bag and tugged onto his shoulder before looking at the entrance unwantedly getting frozen at the sight of Namjoon and two more officers including Mr. Lee stepping inside.

"Oh, Haewon you didn't went home?" Mr. Lee asked him while stretching his arms in tiredness.

"Um, I was just about to go." Composing his calm demenour, Haewon walked past by the three but halted when Namjoon's voice echoed in his ears that spread shivers down his spine.

"What about Mr. Jung? Did he went back too?" Namjoon gazed at the clock.

"Y-yeah. He went back on his own. I'll tale my leave too. Good Night."
Before hearing any further, Haewon raced towards his parked car leaving the building immediately.

"Geez. He must be tired as hell that he literally ran away." Mr. Lee joked making other Officer laugh as the two went back to the tables.

Namjoon also chuckled as he kept gazing at the entrance with a slight smile while swirling the car keys in his finger.

"Sweet dreams to him."

{▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎}

Hoseok recalled the strange call that he got from Haewon this morning leaving him confused and worried as well.

"Mr. Jung I request you to not meet Officer Namjoon. There is more that you don't know. Heck! You don't know anything what he is involved in. Please, be safe and meet me tonight at 8:30 pm in the Hangong Cafe right across Han River."

He really had no idea what was Haewon trying to say but whatever it is, he's down for it. Because now his only goal is to find his sister.

Hoseok managed to take a quick shower and wore simple black shirt and brown pants.

Within few minutes, he was already standing in front of the named cafe that Haewon told about but there was no sign of the man inside the cafe.

As he was about to call him again, Hoseok's eyes caught a figure far away running towards his way.

He squinted his eyes to focus at the person who was wearing a red checked shirt above white plain t-shirt tugged inside black jeans and turns out it was Jaewon himself that surprised Hoseok as he was expecting him to be in his uniform.

"Hello-" Hoseok was about to greet the man as soon he stopped in front of him breathing heavily but he was interrupted instantly and was grabbed onto his arm.

"Not here, Hoseok!"
Haewon warned with eyes frantically looking around before he started running again pulling the confused guy along behind the cafe, turning around few more corners before halting in a nearby alley.

"W-what is going on, officer? What did you wanted to tell-"
Hoseok was huffing tiredly of the running and eyed Haewon who leaned against the wall taking deep breaths as well.

"Officer Namjoon."

He took a pause still contemplating in his head battling hard with his thought if he should reveal the truth to the poor guy or not. But, when he looked in Hoseok's desperate and confused eyes all this thoughts disappeared.

He needs to tell him. Anyhow.

"I-I don't know what-"

"Hoseok, he is involved with the kidnapping of your sister and her friend. He knows the perpetrator who is behind this and is just acting innocent and lying to you about trying to look for them. There is no search going on in Busan. Also, he strictly ordered me not to tell you about this one guy who came before you, filing missing complaint of the two as well. I think his name was Yoongi and he knew your sister's friend. My seniors weren't taking his complaint seriously that why he might have gone to Busan to look for them himself but....there is no news about him. And-"

"Yesterday after I sent you back home, I somehow managed to get the secret phone of Officer Namjoon that he used, to be in contact with that perpetrator and I found some messages......I-I..."

Haewon was finding it hard to tell about those coded messages.

From those, he understood that the 'pale guy' was Yoongi who is dead and out of those two girls, one is dead and other is with them only; alive.

He is scared what if the dead girl is his sister. This will break the guy completely but there is other possibility too that the friend is dead.

"What were those fucking messages, officer?"

Haewon snapped his shocked eyes towards Hoseok taken aback at the sudden change in his demeanour. His bloodshot eyes were narrowed with tears brimming at the corner, with jaw clenched tightly.

The Officer without wasting a second, quickly told him about those messages and everything.

"That motherfucking bastard!"
A frustrating yell escaped from Hoseok's trembling lips as he punched the wall behind him with a single tear running down his cheek.

He can't believe.
No, he don't want to believe any of the two and specially his sister is already dead.
Never.

"I heard somebody called me?"

Haewon's breath hitched in utter fear at the chilling familar voice as he turned his frightful shaky gaze in front where a tall figure came out from the shadows revealing himself with a sick smirk spread across his lips.

"O-Officer N-Namjoon....."
The terrified man stuttered.

"Junior, you really disappointed me. I told you before also not to mend in my business yet your stupid stubborn dead-ass came between."
Namjoon clicked his tongue while shaking his head as he stepped closer to them.

"H-How did you find us-"

"Oh come on. Even after knowing the real me you still asking me that? You thought I wouldn't know that you checked those seen messages.
That's funny."
He chuckled.

The moment Namjoon noticed his wierd behavior when he returned back after patrolling, he instantly checked inside his cabin and firstly looked out for his phone under the table that was poorly stuck with the tape.

Everytime before leaving his cabin, he makes sure to stick his phone with new tape so that it won't fall.

He still checked his phone and saw the new messages which were already seen by someone else who he quickly knew was Haewon. That's why the next day, Namjoon while passing by Haewon's desk put on a tracker on his phone after hearing his conversation with Hoseok in washroom and followed him till here.

He knew he is going to reveal his secret.

"Where is my sister? Who the fuck has kidnapped her, you bastard?!"
Hoseok growled in anger and lunched towards Namjoon grabbing his collar, harshly pinning him back against the wall.

"Mr. Jung, calm down. My team in Busan is still looking for the girls."
He mockingly stated and shamelessly smiled at Hoseok whose blood was boiling.

"Shut the fuck up! Tell me or I will fucking kill you!!"
He screamed on his face but the man only smiled wickedly.

"I'm afraid that I can't tell you about your sister. And about killing....."

Haewon who was already panicking, felt his heart drop after noticing Namjoon who tilted his head maintaining the eyes contact with Hoseok while sneakily reaching down towards his waist.

'Fuck! He is going to kill him.'

"HOSEOK RUN!"
He screamed and pushed Hoseok aside, quickly grabbing Namjoon's hand that was already able to pull out the gun from waistband.

"No! I won't go without getting information about my sister-"
Hoseok straightaway denied wanting answers from Namjoon.

"DON'T BE FUCKING STUBBORN. HE IS ORDERED TO KILL YOU- Ughhh!"
Even after trying to restrain the tall man, unfortunately he was punched in his face.

"I fucking warned you." Namjoon gritted his teeth while choking Haewon who struggled under his grip, still eyeing Hoseok motioning him to leave.

Before he could even think anymore about the situation, a shot echoed through the whole alley. Hoseok's eyes widened in terror seeing the blood oozing out from Haewon's chest where the gun was pointed.

"No! Haewon-"
He was about to run towards him to help but was stopped by Haewon's action who abruptly plunges back at Namjoon, tackling him down who was ready to point the gun next towards Hoseok.

"R-run....Hoseok. Save your yourself. You have swore on your sister's life."

Hearing mentioning of his sister, Hoseok's heart was dropped in guilt and pain. He don't want to leave him in this state with Namjoon but he wants to save his sister, look for her....and that is possible if he is would be alive and safe.

"GO!"
At his command, Hoseok's mind went numb and giving a last glance of hope and worriedness that the struggling would be fine, he finally made a rush out of the alley.

Haewon will all his strength was still pinning down Namjoon on the ground who scoffed at him still trying to stop him at the verge of death.

"Junior, you can't stop me. No one can."

He kicked on his side stomach and gave a hard punch on his bleeding wound earning a scream of pain and coughed blood out of his mouth.

Namjoon had enough of him. He was wasting his precious time.

"O-officer Namjoon, t-this is w-wrong. That's not what police are supposed to do, t-they....Ugh....they are pledge to protect the c-civilians....D-don't do this."

Haewon muttered with hardships as his eyesight was getting blurry.

"Nice last words. But, still not enough to stop me." Namjoon stood up and pointed his gun back at his forehead with a small smile.

"It was nice working with you Junior. We could have still been working but you had to intervene in my work even after I warned you."

"Then it's better to die than work for someone who is a disgrace on the police profession. Disgrace on humanity-"

'BANG!'

"......"

Smoke came out of his gun as he slowly wiped the blood from his face, glaring murderously at the dead figure of Haewon that was bleeding from his forehead. He was finally dead.

"Too much talks."
He hissed in irritation and put the gun back inside the waistband turning around to follow the way Hoseok went, leaving the lifeless body in the dark alley.

****

Hoseok was running in other empty alley while trying to call police to inform about Namjoon but nobody was picking up.

"Pick the fuck up!" He groaned in frustration and again tried.

Suddenly, his heartbeat stopped for a second when a bullet went through his right leg as he stumbled down on the ground with tears instantly filling his eyes, already making their way down his cheeks.

The pain was something he never felt before. It was hurting him so bad.

He pressed onto his wound to stop the bleeding while groaning loudly at the excruciating pain, getting his hands covered in crimson blood.

Hoseok with teary eyes glared at Namjoon's figure who got off the bike and was walking towards his figure.

"Now now. We finally are alone."

"W-what you did with h-him?"
Hoseok muttered in worriedness.

"Off course I killed him. What did you expected me too?"
Namjoon shrugged and crouched down in front of Hoseok while swirling the gun in his hand.

"You were asking me about your little sister, right? Since, you are soon going to die anyway....I'll just tell you where she is....Want to listen?"
Titling his head, he leaned near his face and whispered lowly.

"In hell."

"YOU MOTHERFUCKER- Ughhh!!!!"
An evil smirk appeared on Namjoon's face as he laughed while pressing his shoes on Hoseok's wounded leg as soon he reached for Namjoon's face to hit him.

"No need to thank me. I always try my best to fulfill wishes of the deserving person before their end comes. You are one of them."

He grabbed Hoseok's collar pulling him up on his legs and pinning him on the wall, pointing the gun on his stomach.

"It's sad how things have turned out for you and your sister. You know, it's just fucked up fate you both had."

While Namjoon was still blabbering, actually mocking him more, Hoseok tightly clutched the small sharp thick wooden stick in his hand that he picked up before when he was shot.

"So, shall we kill you now so that I can go and sleep tight- FUCK!"
Namjoon quickly pushed himself back gazing at the wooden stick pierced into his left thigh which was bleeding profusely.

"You little shithol- UGH!"
Hoseok with all his strength picked up the tray of empty alcohol bottles beside him and threw at Namjoon's face before limping his way out of the alley as fast as possible.

"JUNG HOSEOK, YOU CAN'T BE SAVED!!" Namjoon screamed loudly as he held onto the wooden stick trying to take it out of his thigh.

Ignoring his screams, Hoseok with tears of pain flowing constantly through his eyes speeded fast and finally ended up on an empty street, still not stopping at all.

He can't die.
His sister still might be waiting for him. He have to save her.

"Ugh."
Unfortunately, his body didn't had much strength to match with his determination as his knees weakened, falling down on the concrete road.
He was already not well before and now his bleeding leg was making things worse.

Hoseok's eyesight was turning wavery with his surroundings going around in circles around his head.
His brain was slowly getting numb, losing his sense of awareness around him.

"Sir, are you okay?"

His ears perked at the new soft voice. Peering his gaze up, he saw the blurred figure of a man wearing some formal clothes with a suitcase in his hand and a white coat hunged on his other arm.

"P-please help me....I-I....p-please...M-my s-sist-"

Before he could finish, he passed out right in front of the man who tilted his head in confusion and noticed the trail of blood behind Hoseok.

"Oh. It's a gun-wound. Well, you are lucky my guy that I'm here."
The man muttered and took out his handkerchief before tying it on the bleeding leg.

He was taken aback at the light weight of Hoseok when he lifted him up by putting his arm around his neck and holding his waist, pulling his body up and making him lean on himself.

"My, my. What things have you gone through, young man?"

Checking the empty streets one more time, the man continued walking to his destination along with the unconscious Hoseok slowly disappearing in the darkness of the streets.
