Chapter 1

👑 The Secret Mission 👑

"We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone." - Orson Welles

War. It's a reason to fight. It's pointless, and never seems to have an end. Though it happens often. It affects many. It kills many. With the word war, the word pain is brought. Pain, and sadness come and hit you like a slap to the face.

I slowly opened my eyes. My body felt stiff and tired, but I brushed off the feeling as I turned my attention to the man who was standing at my door. His arms were crossed across his chest as if he were mad.

"Can I help you?" I asked, rubbing the last pieces of sleep from my eyes. I waited for an answer from the mystery man, not able to get a good look at him.

"Evelyn, Alpha Trevor asked me to get you. He says it's important." Carson said as I recognized his voice. I nodded lifting myself from my bed, removing the warm white sheets from my body.

"I'm guessing it's about the "arrangement" chat we had yesterday?" I asked as I walked over to Carson, though the Beta didn't answer. "Well thanks for telling me." I teased with a light laugh.

I slowly made my way through the familiar halls, smiling at each pack member who passed me on the way to Alpha Trevor's office, which always seemed like a two hour walk. Carson walked behind me, which made me feel uncomfortable, and more secure at the same time. If that was even possible.

After a few moments of complete silence, the smell of a male wolf, not known to me, hit me like a tidal wave. And not just any wolf was he, a Beta by smell of it. And he was here for me. To give me a mate. One word that sent chills down my spine.

"Hey, Carson, I changed my mind. I don't want to be part of the trade." I said, crossing my arms as I came to a complete stop. Carson raised an eyebrow.

"Evelyn, this trade is the future of the pack, you know that. You're the Alpha's only niece, so the responsibility is yours. Why the sudden hesitation?" Carson asked. I shrugged my sholders, the smell of the Beta was so strong. His dominant scent called me closer, but I stayed put. I knew I'd reach him soon enough, it was probably one of the pack members who had come to escort me.

"Do I really have a say in this anyways?" I ask, and I know what the answer is once I looked into Carson's eyes. "Great. . ." I mumbled as I continued on my way to Alpha Trevor's office.

"Excellent. It's always a pleasure doing business with you Beta Dylan." I heard my Uncle say as I slowly opened the door to his office. Three pairs of eyes snapped right in my direction, making me feel strangely uncomfortable in their judgmental gazes.

"Really? That's her?" I heard one of the she-wolves say as the man who had been speaking with my Uncle glared at her. And that sure shut her up.

"Evelyn, come here." my Uncle said, motioning me to him. I give a nervous nod, hastily walking over to them, Carson filing in behind me. Alpha Trevor continued,"This is Evelyn Rose, my niece. She will be the willing she-wolf to mate in your pack."

I gulped. Once I get to thier pack, what will they do with me? What will they do when they find out what I'm really going to do? I snapped out of my thoughts as I noticed all of their eyes glued to me.

"W-what?" I said in a dry voice, trying not to look scared, because I was. Scared as if someone had threatened to chop my head off and feed it to their son. I don't know, don't listen to me.

Beta Dylan- I think that's his name -cleared his throat, repeating what was said before I blanked out, "Do you willingly accept the trade, knowing you, Evelyn Rose, will not be allowed a new title without working for it and have accept any mate assigned to you by our Alpha, Alpha Seth?" I blinked, not sure what to say for a second.

"I d-do." I stuttered, cussing at myself for sounding weak and exposed. And they all took notice of it because one of the she-wolves scoffed.

Beta Dylan sighed, running a hand though his brown hair. Crossing his- not surprisingly muscular -arms. "Let's get going. Alpha Seth wants us to be back by night fall."

"When will I be hearing from Alpha Seth?" I heard my Uncle say before I turned my head to look at him. Beta Dylan looked like he had to think about the question, his beautifully preserved face scrunched up in thought.

"I'd guess in a few weeks at least," he gave my Uncle a look of sympathy, "I'm sorry, my Alpha has a very busy schedule. I'll make sure to tell him you requested a meeting." my Uncle dipped his head as we all began to leave the room. Well, my new pack members and I.

"So, Evelyn, what can you do?" Dylan asked as we all walked down the halls, no goodbyes necessary. The she-wolves looked suddenly interested. The blonde- the one who seemed like she was constantly judging me -smirked.

"She probably can't do anything herself. I know her type, a princess." Dylan gave a low growl, making her snap her mouth shut. I smiled to myself.

"I guess. . . I can cook?" I say hesitantly. I sort of knew a thing or two about cooking. I guess.

Dylan smiled, his gorgeous face lighting up as if he had made a startling discovery. "Good, then I'll assign you to Linnea. She runs the kitchen and I'm sure she'd be glad to have you."

I nodded my head, glad I'd be of some use to them. I had started to think that she-wolf was right, but if she was, I'd be sure to prove her wrong. Beta Dylan led us to a black limo, opening the back door, signaling me to hop in. I quickly did as I was told, stepping in, the smell of new car hitting my nose instantly. I pressed the label "down" on the door which I could only assume was for the window. And thankfully it was because I needed as much air as possible.

"So, Evelyn, you excited to see who Alpha Seth has chosen to mate to you?" Beta Dylan asked, making me jump a little. I shook my head slightly. His smile faltered, though I could tell he was trying to keep one. "No? Then why did you willingly accept this trade? You knew the majority of what you were getting into."

What was I supposed to tell him? That I only accepted it because the responsibility was forced onto me? That I had a. . . secret job to preform? I stayed quiet for a long time, happy with the cold silence for once, it had always been an enemy of mine, but now it just seemed like a close friend.

I noticed how Dylan had waited for an answer, so I quickly came up with a lie. And this was at the top of my head people, "Beta Carson was to be my betrothed and I don't want him."

"Are you crazy!?" my wolf screamed at me, "He's going to look into that and when he finds out you lied to him you're going to have to give some answers! How dumb can you be!" I found my nerves quickly get the better of me because I knew my wolf was almost never wrong. And I didn't think this was an exception.

"Really? A betrothal? Interesting, I've never heard of this before." Dylan said surprise mixed into his deep voice. Well now I was scared. What was I supposed to say? That none of the wolves in my pack- ex-pack -were good enough for me? What would that say about me. He'd judge me, think that I thought I was too good for anyone.

"Y-yeah. It was supposed to be a secret, so please don't tell anyone I told you." I said, hoping that'd cover me with that lie. He nodded his head which gave me a moment of relief.

I stared out of the window, following the passing trees with my eyes until they left in a blur. Repeating the same pattern until a huge mansion came into view. It was made of bricks, tall ivory columns holding the large front entrance up. It had no door, as if inviting me in. I shifted in my seat, not sure how I felt about moving to a new location. It'll take me forever to figure out where everything was.

"Evelyn, I want you to ignore any of the looks given to you." Dylan said before I nodded, and bit my lip nervously. Him telling me that only kept my fear at the top of my mind. As if I wasn't worried enough.

We pulled up to the house, and immediately I could see other wolves walking around in the yards of just beautiful green grass. It made me feel a little intimidated, seeing as how I was just one she-wolf in a pack of mostly dominant males who could sense my distress. I instantly knew I'd better stick close to Beta Dylan.

I heard the limo's door open, snapping my attention over to Dylan who was getting out. He slowly made his way over to where I was seated, opening my door like a butler.

I quickly spoke up, "Thank you." Dylan gave me a sexy smirk, making me blush a little, though I wish it didn't because he chuckled.

As Beta Dylan and I made our way through the yards of werewolves, I spotted one wolf in particular, his mussels strong and sturdy, complementing his sharp facial features. In all honesty, he was the most jaw dropping man I'd ever seen. I mean, I had practically drooled over him. He ran a hand through his black hair, sweat dripping from his forehead. I studied him for a while longer until I was interrupted by Dylan, making me almost have a heart attack.

"You're checking Alpha Seth out." Dylan laughed as I full blown blushed, quickly coming up with a come back.

"W-was not! I just couldn't believe how messy his hair was!" wow, good job Evelyn, way to make yourself sound like an idiot. Dylan just rolled his eyes with a smirk as I continued to rush after him. Pretending I'd never seen my new Alpha.

Dylan led me through hall from hall, door through door, entrance through entrance until he stopped at a blue door, turning the handle. By this point, I was tired and it was getting dark. Yeah, that's just how big the house was. He walked in, and I quickly followed, not wasting any time with stalling.

"This is your new room. Decorate it all you want, just don't go too crazy, some of the she-wolves here do." Dylan chuckled. I nodded swiftly stumbling over to my bed, flopping onto it. "I suppose you're tired," I nod, "I'll inform Alpha Seth of your arrival."

I lifted my head from my bed to thank him for escorting me, but I hadn't even realized he was already gone. I sighed, crawling to the middle of my bed- that seemed to be bigger than a King's bed -pulling the gold sheets over my body. Allowing my eyes the rest they so desperately begged for.

Well, it couldn't get any worse.
