Prologue

Echo was sitting on a park bench, her feet dangling off the edge and swinging like a child. She had her headphones on and she was humming along to the song that she was listening to.

She took out her headphones and rubbed her sore ears while listening to the rain. She didn't know why so many people disliked the rain, but she guessed that she should be thankful. After all, she was able to go out and still be alone.

A soft sigh escaped from her lips.

Why does the world have to be so dramatic

She was about to put her headphones back in when she heard a quiet pawing noise coming from an alley.

She stood up and walked in the alley, being careful and looking if there was anything sketchy was going on. She walked past a couple of boxes, when she heard a loud boom.

She jumped in the air and let out a quiet shriek, turning around as soon as she could. What she saw shocked her.

Why did that box... Tip over?

Inside she could hear multiple meowing protests. She knelt down and placed the box upright, making sure to be gentle with the creatures inside.

When she opened the box, she was greeted with a nice surprise. Inside were ten colorful kittens, all of them resembling a certain anime character that she knew.

She brushed her hair behind her ear, trying to get a better view of the kittens.

Ok, it's either someone else dyed these poor kittens, or someone spiked my drink

She was unbelieving of what was currently happening. Who wouldn't is the question.

She decided that, abandoned or not, these kittens needed a home and she would be darned if she didn't give them one.

She gently lifted the box and made sure to not tilt it as she stood up. She exited the alley, looking left and right on instinct.

She walked as gracefully as she could, trying her best not to slip and fall. Her footsteps sounded silently as her shoes tapped against the concrete.

After a few turns, a couple of roads, and a few nearly catastrophic slip ups, she was finally home. She reached into her pocket and rummaged around for her keys.

When she found them, she slid the key into the key hole and heard a reassuring click. She softly opened her door, holding the keys in her mouth and balancing the box in one hand.

She stepped in and took off her shoes with one hand. She threw them in a pile right next to her door. She walked across the living room and into her room. Once in, she carefully set the box of animals on her desk.

She sat down in her chair and observed the cute creatures silently, trying to figure out what to do. It clicked.

She went to the bathroom and collected a few small rags and towels. She proceeded to go back to her room and bundle up each of the bunch in a towel or rag, some more reluctant than others.

Once she was done with that task, she took the rags and towels off once the kittens were dry. She set them each in a basket that had a fuzzy blanket on inside to make it soft. And so, the already sleepy kittens fell asleep.

Echo smiled lightly and the sight before her. She stood all the was up and brushed off the dust on her pants. She got changed into some sleep clothes and laid down in bed. She reflected on the day until she finally fell asleep.

I hope that you like the rewrite of this story so far, I was originally going to leave in at 200 words, but then I remembered the changes that I wanted to make. And yes most chapters will be as long if not longer than this!
