Never Question Alfred

Several moments passed and Adrien was still awake. The blood lost and magic caused him to not be all there. While I was a match for blood type, Alfred wouldn't let me give him any.

"Miss Marinette. You were injected with Scarecrow's toxin less than 24 hours ago. It may still be in your blood. We cannot risk it."

"But I beat him. It should be out."

"You didn't get the antidote. You may have beat it, but there is a small chance it could still be in your system."

"What am I supposed to do? He lost a lot of blood, and you're asking me not to give him mine to make up for it."

"Lucky for you both, we have some universal in stock." I don't even want to guess why. "As for what you can do, you can stay by his side until he is out to calm him down."

"Alfy, rip the dang rod out. I'm not gonna actually be put under any time soon," Adrien said eyes closed ready for this damn night to end.

"Is that really the best idea?" I asked.

"Do it or I'm gonna be impaled for the rest of my life."

Drama queen.

I'm a social work major not anything health related so it's probably not super accurate but screw it. Our poor boy has a metal rod in him and needs the damn thing out.

~Jason's POV~

Things settled down and the cave felt oddly quiet. That was until a loud scream could be heard from the med bay.

I rushed over others behind me. I got to a point where I couldn't go any further. Probably Marinette using magic to keep everyone out. Smart.

All I could see was Alfred standing over someone and Marinette walking away with tears in her eyes. Tears threatened to fall at the sight. I wish I could run over to comfort her. The day keeps getting worse for her.

Everything around me disappeared as I watched Marinette walk over putting her hand on the force field. I put mine against hers causing her to weakly smile. It was the only thing I could do for her in the moment. Marinette stood there for a small moment before walking back to Alfred tears staining her face.

"What the hell is happening?" Dick questioned looking at me.

"How am I supposed to now? I'm as clueless as everyone else here," I lied.

"Why can't I get any closer or see anything?" Steph asked.

"It appears as magic is being used," Bruce stated.

"Thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious," I said putting my hand into my pocket as I turned around. "What exactly do you guys see?"

"Literally nothing. Why? Can you see more?" Tim questioned.

"I see faint movement but that's it," I lied once more.

"How come you can see more? Hell you look as if you can get closer than us. And why did you put your hand up like that?"

God damnit. Now it's obvious I know more and am hiding things especially when my hand was previously on the force field. I can't do anything right especially to protect Marinette.

I glanced over my shoulder looking at the med bay once more but couldn't stand the sight any longer.

"Fuck this." I began walking away towards my bike.

Sorry for the language to those who are younger.

"You know something Jason. There are random people in the cave, and you are keeping important information from us. This could jeopardize our whole mission and identities." Bruce said stopping me in my tracks.

"What I know is that someone came to the cave as a last resort because their partner was dying. If you're all about saving people like you always say, then your identities shouldn't matter right now."

A loud cry grabbed everyone's attention. It came from Marinette this time. I knew that voice anywhere. I had to keep myself from making any expression that would let on me knowing anything else.

With everyone's attention on the sob coming from the med bay, I quietly grabbed Damian by his cape a drug him to my bike where no one else could hear.

Before he could say anything I asked, "What exactly do you know?" bringing us back to the previous conversation.

"How much do you know?"

"More than you. Now tell me."

"Marinette knows everyone's identities. Same goes for her friend Agreste."

"That's it?"

"What else do I not know?"

I let out a small sigh of relief. At least he doesn't know about her secret life or what is happening in Paris. It should have been obvious Damian didn't know as he appeared just as clueless as everyone else. I just had to make sure, so I could protect my girlfriend. I know Marinette can protect herself and Paris, but it made me feel that I was doing something for her.

"If you tell anyone you're dead."

"We made an agreement. If she doesn't tell Father by a certain time, then I will."

"You can't do that."

"She agreed to it. Plus she wants to spar and see the Batcave. Can't exactly do that if she doesn't tell Father."

"What are you two talking about?" someone asked. I'm so done with questions and lectures.

"Tt, you really shouldn't insert yourself in other people's conversation. It is quite rude, Brown."

"I was just asking Demon Spawn about his change of opinion on Marinette."

A quick blush appeared on his cheek before disappearing. I raised an eyebrow as it was something I never expected, especially when it came to the topic of my girlfriend.

"Did I imagine it or did he blush?" Duke joked.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Damian denied.

"Wait he has a crush on her! That's so cute!"

"Just because I admire Marinette and think more people should be like her doesn't mean I have a crush on her."

Oh god. My twelve year old kind of brother has a crush on my girlfriend. At least this took everyone's attention away from the whole random people coming into the cave situation.

"It's totally normal for a younger sibling to have a small crush on their older sibling's significant other." Dick defended with a smile on their face.

"You're... you're... I..." Damian stammered before clearing his throat. "I don't know why you would think such a thing. Now excuse me. I have things to do. However, do keep updated on this whole situation."

With his head down, Damian went to the elevator. "I swear I will," I started.

"Oh stop. It's cute. I mean it's his first crush."

"Which is on my girlfriend." I reminded.

"Well this means you picked a good one if this is Damian's reaction. Do remember how he usually acts with others," Bruce commented.

I just sighed and got on my bike. I sent one final glance at the med bay before driving away.

~Marinette's POV~

The last thing I heard from Adrien was a scream. He passed out from the pain right after. I wanted so badly to be by his side during the operation but not surprisingly Alfred was right. It was too much for me to handle at the moment.

I knew the scream caused everyone to rush over. I was too weak to cover it with illusion. I began walking over once I saw Jason. How I wished he could come in here with me. I put my hand up Jason doing the same. Although our hands weren't actually touching I could feel the warmth of his. I couldn't help but give him a weak smile.

Behind him was the rest of the Bats. By the looks of it, they couldn't see anything or come closer as if the shield didn't shrink earlier. However, Jason could. It was most likely that his knowledge made it possible.

Although I was still crying, I needed to get back to Adrien. I promised to not leave his side. As I walked a way, I could hear arguing behind me. Couldn't help but feel like it was my fault.

"I'm almost done. He'll need to lay here for an hour before you move him back to the hotel. Even with the magic there will be a light scar." Alfred said as I sat back down.

At least he'll be ok but I couldn't help but let out a loud sob. "I should have protected him Alfred. I wasn't fast enough to deakumatize the person and Adrien paid the price. It's all my fault."

"It's not your fault dear."

"I should have already defeated Hawkmoth. He should be in jail by now."

"Blaming yourself is not going to change anything. It will only bring pain and suffering."

"I need to bring Hawkmoth to justice, but I can't do anything because I'm in Gotham."

"Tell me what you would be doing if you were in Paris. What exactly is your plan?" Alfred questioned cleaning everything up.

"Adrien and I have a strong theory on who it is. We planned on putting a bug into his assistant's tablet which will allow me to hack into that device and others. With that information, we can prove or disprove our theory."

"Why do you have to wait until you're back in Paris to do so? Certainly, there are different miraculouses you can use to get yourself there unnoticed to plant the bug."

"His assistant doesn't go anywhere without her tablet. Adrien and I have an in which will easily allow us to actually hold it."

"Could you not do it at night when she is sleeping?"

I stayed quiet for a moment thinking everything over. "If we knew her sleep schedule, we could however it's not consistent. Some nights she'll be up later than others. I'm also not exactly sure where she keeps it."

"Are you unable to make yourself hidden in plain sight?"

"Orikko may be able to make me invisible. I would be able to move around not having to worry about cameras or anything. Adrien would only need to guide me. What if something goes wrong Alfred? All the progress we made would be taken away."

"Maybe you can give yourself a second chance."

"Someone already holds that miraculous," I replied knowing what he was really referring to. "I promised Adrien that it would be the two of us investigating this lead."

"Well, you do have a little bit of luck on your side," Alfred said looking at Tikki. "I cannot tell you how to investigate or fight this battle. It is yours after all. What I can do is be here for advice and be an ally."

Alfred walked off for a moment taking some equipment with him. I soon became lost in thought thinking deeply on what Alfred said.

After a while I turned towards Adrien moving his hair to the side so I could clearly see his face. "Kitty, we both know we need to end this war now. We can't wait any longer," I whispered to Adrien who was still asleep.

"Miss Marinette... Miss Marinette..."

"Huh?" I was so lost in thought I didn't realize Alfred was calling me.

"An hour has passed. We can take him back to the hotel."

"I don't want to go. I'll be going to my doom. I didn't exactly explain where I was going or how long I'd be gone. I'll be eaten alive by my friends."

"You must get it over and done with. Plus you looked ready to pass out yourself. You need rest."

"Think it's safe to portal him?"

"Unless you are ready to face the group of Bats right outside, portaling him is your only choice. But yes, it is safe to portal him."

I put in the ring of the black cat and unified Plagg with Kaalki. I have no clue how to go about moving him. Adrien is still out and I don't want to wake him. But screw it. If he wakes up he wakes up.

"Voyage," I said opening a portal leading to my bedroom at the hotel. I picked Adrien up bridal style.

"Thank you for everything Alfred."

"Of course. Stay safe and avoid doing things like this again. And don't worry about me. They know better than to question me about this."

I gave him a smile before walking through.

"That did not feel good," Adrien muttered waking up as soon as I stepped foot in the room. The portal closed behind us.

"The part about being impaled, getting a metal rod ripped out of you, or going through a magic portal," I replied chuckling.

"Currently it's going through a magic portal, but the rest didn't feel any better."

After I laid him down, the door flung open. Everyone stood there furiously.

"We're back."

"That's all you have to say!" Alix yelled.

"No yelling. Head hurts. Feel like throwing up," Adrien said.

"Well sorry didn't seem appropriate."

"No shit Marinette," Kim replied.

I detransformed falling to the ground right after. "I'm good. Just exhausted from using different miraculous at once."

"You wouldn't have to if you let us help," Nino said helping me to my feet.

"There wasn't much you could have done. I was useless the whole time we were gone. I had to sit there and watch as Adrien went through surgery."

"If you didn't patch him up, then who did?" Nathaniel questioned.

"A trusted ally," was all I could say.

"How are we supposed to work as a team if you won't tell us everything? I'm tired of secrets Dupian-Cheng."

"I get it but today is not the day."

"Then when is?"

"I don't know. I'm exhausted and just want to go to bed. This whole night has been a nightmare. I have to finish taking care of Adrien before I can think of everything else. In case you haven't noticed, there is still dried blood on the both of us and on our clothes.

Come on Adrien. We got to get you to your bed and get you changed and cleaned up."

"Can't I just stay in your room? I don't think I can be alone right now. Plus we have to swap out miraculous."

"Of course Kitty. Just let me get supplies."

I walked past everyone else without saying a word. But still heard Adrien say, "Please give Mari a break right now and go to bed."

By the time I was back, everyone had listened to Adrien and left. I began cleaning us up not a word being said.

"Thanks Bug," Adrien said once I was done and under the blanket.

"Of course Kitty. I talked to Alfred once he was done taking care of you. He gave me a great idea on how to stop Hawky sooner. I'll tell you everything tomorrow, but go to sleep knowing that you won't have to go through anything like this again."

"You need to..." Adrien started before falling asleep. He was still pale and clearly in pain.

"Don't worry I'll fall asleep real soon," I whispered walking to the window to get a small breeze in.

When I opened the curtains, I didn't see Gotham. Instead it was Paris in ruins. Where Wayne Enterprises should be was the Effie Tower fallen over. I quickly closed the curtains removing the scene that was once in front of me.

Alfred was right. Scarecrow's toxin was still in my blood stream messing with me. I ran into bed and tried my hardest to fall asleep.

Something I also got rid of the MPS because it just didn't fit the story and Mari is too badass for that shit.
