Chapter 3: The Angry Mess

HITOMI's POV
After Kakashi's granted approval of becoming an official team, and of course taking our team picture, we've been handed a series of D Ranked missions. Today is an example of said mission, like us trying to capture a stray cat. Oh! But it's not a simple stray cat, no, it's a cat that belongs to Madam Shimiji, the Feudal Lord's wife's cat. A cat named Tora.
Don't get me wrong, I love cats, but this specific cat doesn't want to be caught. He's purposely running away and the owner is just making a big fuss. She's probably the over-affectionate type that tends to suffocate the cat with hugs and kisses. Ew, gross!
I make a face of distaste with the idea of affection. I even cringe just thinking about being hugged. Frowning, I silently run on my tiptoes and hide behind a tree. Looking over my shoulder, I narrow my eyes on the small feline.
"How far away is the target," I hear Kakashi's voice through my comlink.
"Five meters and closing! How much longer are we gonna wait," my brother announces.
"I'm in position," Sasuke states.
"So am I," Sakura says right after.
I'm sure you are, I roll my eyes.
I push the button for my common before talking. "Not to rush anything, but I'd rather not spend my whole day chasing a cat who doesn't want to be caught," I dully state.
I hear Kakashi release a long sigh. "Calm down, Hitomi. All right, go!"
And with that, we all rush in towards the feline. Though, even when we jumped in at the same time, it's my brother who reaches Tora first.
"I got it," Naruto exclaims before letting out a painful yelp.
Turning towards him with immediate concern, I spot the cat viciously scratching at my brother. My crimson eyes turn to slits as I near the cat before hissing at it. With his own slitted eyes, Tora hisses back at me, adding a yowl. Not backing down, I bare my teeth before growling at Tora. With that done, the cat stops scratching my brother and that's when I take the chance to peel him off my brother before shoving Tora into Sakura's arms.
"Does it have a red bow in its right ear," Kakashi asks.
"Affirmative," Sasuke confirms as he looks at Tora in Sakura's arms.
"Great! Then, Mission Capture Lost Pet Tora is accomplished," Kakashi announces through the comlinks.
I frown at the mention of the cat, but I'm reminded to check on my brothers arms. Looking at the scratch marks decorating his forearms, I sigh before pulling out a simple salve for wounds. I go to tend to his wounds, but Naruto stands up with an angry look.
"Why can't our team ever get a better mission," he shouts through the earpiece, deafening us.
With ringing ears, I cringe at the volume before smacking Naruto upside the head. He turns to me, rubbing the back of his head while giving me a pout. I give him a small glare before pointing to my ears, and he responds with a sheepish grin.
Rolling my eyes, I shake my head with a microscopic smile. What a lovable idiot, I mentally tell myself as I look at my brother.
'Unlike you.'
I immediately frown at the voice in my head. 'Shut up!'
'Why? Afraid that you're going crazy? Haha!'
If it's possible, it seems that my frown deepened to a new level. I clench my jaw before blocking out the voices with a mental barrier, and going back into reality.
What if I am going crazy, the sole thought lingers in my head.
======
Standing in the mission assignment room, I stand next to my brother as I watch out client smother Tora into her massive chest. The cat itself is yowling, mewling, and basically making every resistant noise it can make.
Frowning, I keep looking at Tora. If I was in that sort of relationship, being smothered 24/7, I would also run away. I sympathize for Tora, he has to live with that woman. Just thinking of that, I immediately shiver in disgust.
"Poor Tora! Good little kitty-kitty! I was so worried about you, I could have died," the woman exclaims, squeezing Tora into a tighter hug.
Well, right now, Tora probably wishes you were already dead, I raise a single brow, still cringing at the level of affection.
I watch as Madam Shijimi pays for the mission she asked for before taking a leave with a yowling Tora. The room stills to a quiet silence as she does, leaving is in momentary bliss. Though, it makes me empathize for Tora's future distress.
Releasing a tired sigh, the Hokage captures a my attention. "Now, the next assignment for Team Seven will be...hmm to babysit for the Council of Elders. To run errands to the neighboring village. To help dig sweet potatoes-"
"No way!" My exclaims, crossing his arms in front of him. His shout startles me. "No thank you! BORING! Give us something different to do! Something important! Something amazing!"
I shoot him a pointed look, although he is right. These D Rank missions are a drag.
Naruto's outburst seems to trigger Iruka, who's sitting next to the Hokage. "Don't be a fool! You're only a beginner! Everyone starts out doing grunt work! It's where you get experience, so you can work your way up to the bigger things," our former sensei shouts, scolding Naruto.
"We've done tons of small stuff! Can't we get some action," Naruto counters, shouting back.
Though, the argument comes to an end when Kakashi hits my brother in the head, making him fall to the ground. "Naruto, that's enough! Knock it off," he scolds.
I sigh, not even taking a chance to glare at Iruka. I know that our former sensei is one of the very few people who cares about my brother. He's hard on Naruto, but it's tough love, almost like an older sibling. Though, as I don't bother throwing a glance at Iruka, but I narrow my eyes at Kakashi for punching my brother.
He may be our sensei, but he still needs to gain my respect. Plus, he needs to stop hitting Naruto and bad talking him, I mentally state, crossing my arms.
"Apparently, Naruto, needs an explanation of just what these duties are. You see, everyday, our village receives many requests, for everything, from babysitting to assassination. We take that tremendous variety and sort them into categories...."
'And boring! You already know this stuff, don't you? I mean, you're smart and could have gotten the highest scores in the academy, but you were lying low, deceiving everyone.'
I immediately scowl as I hear one of the voices, 'back so soon?! I was just starting to enjoy the silence.'
'Ha! Well, aren't you rude?'
'Shut up! And of course, I know all this! Anyone who pays the simplest of attention can know this, but that isn't important right now,' I state, irritated.
'Oh! And what is? What's so important that you're willing to ignore the Hokage,' the voice states, almost sounding smug.
'How about you, both of you, mind telling what the heck you are? Are you two random voices? Is it my imagination? Am I crazy? Is this a medical condition, like schizophrenia? Why don't you stop stalling and playing with my mind and tell me what you are,' I ask several questions, wanting answers to this situation.
'Where's the fun in that? Not everyone you meet is good hearted! Plus, there's more fun in causing destruction!'
'Or in our case, causing your insanity! Hahaha!'
My eyes widen at the revelation, but as I go to mentally say something, the Hokage's voice cuts me away from my mental conversation.
"Are you listening," the Hokage reprimands us.
"I-I'm sorry," Kakashi stutters sheepishly.
"I don't want to hear it! All the old fart ever does is apologize then give me some lecture. But it's not fair! There's more to me than the troublemaking screw up the old fart thinks I am," my brother exclaims, standing up for himself, tired of being underestimated.
I give him a small, miniscule, smile.
The Hokage chuckles, "very well." He tells us.
"Eh?" Naruto questions, voicing my thoughts.
"Since you put it that way, I will permit you to attempt a C Rank mission, usually reserved for Chunin level shinobi, the protection of a certain individual," the Hokage specifies, giving us a harder mission than our norm.
"All right! Who is it?! Some great Lord?! The Daimyo? A princess," my brother questions with an excited grin, eyes sparkling.
"Compose yourself. I'll preform the introductions straight away," the old man tells us, making us stand straight and proper. "Please invite him in."
The door of the room opens and the smell of alcohol instantly hits my nostrils. I scrunch my nose in disgust as the scent overwhelms my senses.
Great! The man we're protecting is a drunk, I scowl.
"What's this," the newcomer asks incredulously. "They look like a bunch of snot-nosed brats. Especially, the midget. He's got the face of an imbecile. It's a joke, right? You kids aren't really ninja, are you?"
With the several insults thrown at us, I don't really care. Though, it's the insult he directs towards Naruto that gets to me which deepens my scowl into a glare.
What's with people always insulting my brother?! It's like they're asking for a death wish, I grit my teeth as I clench my hands into fists.
"Who'd you mean? Which midget," Naruto asks, looking around, but mostly at me since I'm a few inches smaller than him. "Which imbec-"
He cuts himself off as he notices that everyone's looking at him, realizing the truth. Knowing that our client meant him, Naruto suddenly sees red.
"I'll kill him," he screams, trying to lunge at him. His comment makes a smirk decorate my lips, but it disappears just as quickly when Kakashi holds him back.
"Wrong. No killing the client you've been assigned to protect," Kakashi informs my twin.
I scoff, "where's the fun in that?" I question, crossing my arms while sending a glare towards the drunk.
Kakashi sighs. "Calm down, Hitomi," he reassures. I feel like that's the only thing he says to me, it's becoming his new catchphrase.
"I am Tazuna, a bridge builder of ultimate renown. Until I am safely back in own country, where I'll be completing my next bridge, you'll all be expected to protect me. Even if it costs you your lives!" He professes, giving us all the needed information.
Talk about, dramatic, I raise a single scarlet brow.
"All right! Meet at the entrance gates in thirty minutes," Kakashi announces, dismissing us.
Taking Naruto's wrist, I lead us out of the room without sparing a glance at my teammates.
======
Finally, packing all the necessary items like spare clothes, weapons, scrolls, and some food for snacking, though they're mostly for Naruto when he gets hungry. Closing my blue backpack, I sling the straps on my shoulder before walking out of my room. Walking towards my brother's room, I knock at his door before looking in. I find him packing the last of his things in his own backpack. When he's done, he turns to me and grins.
Looking over his shoulder and at the clock on his beside table, my scarlet eyes slightly widen. Crap!
"Let's go, Naruto! We're gonna be late if don't leave, ya know!" I raise my voice, losing my composure.
"Ahh! Let's go, believe it," he screams before running past me.
Turning on my heel, I run after him and leave our shared apartment. Quickly locking the door, we scramble down the flight of stairs and hastily make out way towards the gates. As we run, Naruto avoids bumping into people, but I don't care and roughly push them out of my way, not even apologizing.
Once we reach the gates, I find the sight of all our teammates standing there. I guess we were late. Turning towards Naruto, I find him resting on his knees, panting. Well, that's before he stands up, giving us a brilliant smile.
"All right! Road trip," he exclaims happily, raising his arms.
Though, his happiness is immediately shot down.
"What are you babbling about," Sakura retorts with a scoff.
I look away from my brother and throw the her a heated glare. My hands clench into fists as I restrain myself from wringing her small, delicate, neck. Maybe I do have anger problems, but she's a person who easily gets on my nerves especially when she also treats my brother like trash.
Ignoring her negative attitude towards him, my brother keeps his grin. "This'll be the first time in my life I've ever been outside of the village," he beams with marvel.
My eyes soften at the revelation. How can he be so happy after everything we've been through? After what this village put us through? How is he so happy, while I'm so rotten and cold?
'Becau-
'Shut it!' I immediately cut the voice off, not in the mood to be patronized.
'Rude!'
And with that I push a mental barrier to block them out, even if it doesn't last long. Coming back to reality, I have enough time to hear what Tazuna says about my brother.
"-really expected to place my life in the hands of this fool," he states, looking at my blonde of a brother. I immediately see red.
"There's no call for concern. I am an elite ninja, and I'll be along too," Kakashi reassure, not taking the time to defend my brother.
Now, that's done it! Turning on my heel, I glare at Tazuna and Kakashi. But it seems that Naruto beat me to it.
"Listen up, you old geezer! You don't mess with ninja, ever! Especially not with a really good one, like me," Naruto yells, pointing an angry finger at our client. "I am the cream of the elite. In fact, one day I'm gonna be the next Lord Hokage! So, remember my name. It's Uzumaki Naruto!"
"Hokage, eh? The Lord of your village? The best there is? I don't think someone like you has it in him," Tazuna states, taking a swig of, what I assume is, sake.
"Well, you're old and stupid," Naruto insults which makes me laugh, I cover it as a cough. "I am doing all the right things and I'm doing them fast! And when I become Hokage, you're gonna wish that you were a lot more respectful to me now!"
"Respect you? I don't think so. Not even if you did become Hokage," Tazuna imforms, drinking his alcohol.
My eye twitches, I've had enough with this old geezer. And finally, all fed up, I release all of my pent up anger from today's events. I can literally feel the air around me become ominous with tension.
"You are dead," Naruto shouts.
"I said no, you little dunce," Kakashi repeats, restraining my brother.
As if feeling my silent anger, Tazuna and my teammates all turn to me; maybe they find my silence to all the insults thrown at naruto, suspicious. I'm sure I look exactly just as I feel, hair floating around me, eyes being as sharp as knives, and a glare being of one that promises death.
"M-Mi-chan?"
"I don't care whether you're our client or some hot-shot councillor, no one, disrespects my brother," I say before dropping my glare and giving a closed eye smile. "That is unless you want to die!"
Opening my eyes, I find that everyone paled profoundly at my threat. Oh, well, I smirk. Walking towards Naruto, I take his wrist and begin our trek towards the Wave Country.
======
The journey out of Konoha and through the surrounding forest of the Land of Fire was, and is, silent. Though, after a short hour or two, Sakura broke it by asking questions.
"Um, Mr. Tazuna?" The Kunoichi calls out.
"What now," comes the short retort.
"You come from the Wave Country, right," she continues.
"What of it," he gruffly answers, probably annoyed with her pestering.
I watch as the pinkette then turns towards our sensei. "Um, Kakashi sensei? Are there ninja in that country too?"
I zone out of the conversation since I already know that the Wave Country is too small to support any military aid, not to mention poor. Anyone would know this if they took the time to read up on the demographics of the area, as well as their politics.
Sighing, I push my attention back into their conversation.
"-the ultimate commanders of the tens of thousands of shinobi throughout the world," Kakashi states, from what I assume, about the Five Kages.
"Whoa! Lord Hokage is SO amazing," Sakura comments.
I scoff, is she really underestimating our Hokage? Yeah, he may be old, but that doesn't make him weak. Plus, he got chosen as Hokage for a reason.
"You obviously don't really think so," Kakashi catches her faux admiration. After patting her head, he continues. "There's nothing to worry about. You won't face any duels with ninja from other countries in C Rank missions."
I frown, well, maybe not ninja, but we can still stumble upon thugs and low life criminals.
But as I think this, in my peripheral vision I see as Tazuna turns away. Turning towards him, it looks like he's hiding something from us. His body language is distant, yet nervous. The way he turned away is like he's guilty of something. But what?
I keep my eyes narrowed on him, trying to silently figure out the puzzle that he is. He's greedily drinking, his eyes keep darting towards the trees and looking everywhere as if he's expecting something to happen, he's maintaining information from us, and he's fidgeting nervously.
With Sakura's questions answered, I watch as the Kunoichi walks ahead, my brother following after her. Not wanting to risk anything, I follow right after him like his personal bodyguard. Now, that I look at it, I really do act like his protector. Call it babying him, or sisterly love, but I'm not fine with watching him get hurt.
Though, the silence of our group is broken as Kakashi yells in shock.
"What," our sensei questions incredulously.
"Eh," Sakura yelps in surprise.
"What the-" my brother cuts himself off, too shocked.
My eyes widen with alarm and I immediately begin to unwrap my arm's bandages. By the time I reach my seal, I watch as the two newcomers, also ninja, pull at the metal chains that are wrapped around Kakashi, and tear his body apart.
"One little piggy," one of them says after killing Kakashi.
This was planned! They took out Kakashi, who was the strongest threat to them. Unless it's a personal vendetta against our sensei, these two were assigned to assassinate Tazuna, I speedily think as I unseal my staff, twirling it.
"Eeee," Sakura screeches at the sight of our mutilated sensei.
"Kakashi sensei," Naruto yells in despair.
"Two little piggies," the ninja says from behind.
I immediately stiffen, though I'm not risking the threat since I'm standing next to my brother. Turning around, I jab my weapon towards them and they jump back in sync to avoid being hit.
Though, that's when Sasuke steps up to attack them as well. I watch as he jumps before throwing a single shuriken and kunai. The shuriken itself embeds into their metal chain and pins them to a tree, but it's the kunai that keeps them from freeing themselves as it sticks in between the shuriken like a barrier. Having the ninja stuck in place, Sasuke lands on them, one foot on each of their arm devices. I watch with wonder as he switched places with his hands before delivering kicks to their faces.
I pout, even if I don't want to admit it, he's pretty fast and somewhat skillful.
Though, I'm interrupted with my thoughts when the two ninja break away from their linked chain. Running from Sasuke, past Naruto and I, they head towards Tazuna and Sakura.
Mostly towards Tazuna.
That's what I thought, until one made a sudden turn towards us Uzumaki. It took a second to react, but it was one second too late. By the time I aimed to defend my brother's incoming attack, I watch as the world around me slowed. In slow motion, I witnessed as the ninja wounded my brother, creating a scratch on the back of his hand.
It wasn't much, but all I saw was red.
'Do it!'
'Kill him!'
'He hurt your precious brother!'
'Make him suffer!'
And with the voices and the added anger, I let the dark emotions consume me. With a deadly calm, the only evidence of my anger is the darkened shade of my eyes. Quickly spinning my bo in between my fingers, I lash out.
It's sudden and too fast, and I ignore the situation happening across the field as I attack the ninja. Slamming the staff on the temple of his head, I watch as he falls to the ground.
I should stop there, but the voices egg me on to continue.
With an angry daze, I continue bashing his head with my staff. I ignore everything happening around me, too consumed. The screams of pain, the yells of protest, the blood splattering on my skin, I simply ignore it. My only focus is to kill the person who hurt my brother.
Bash!
Bash!
Bash!
Bash!
I breathe heavily as I come to a stop, all I can hear is the pounding of my heart ringing in my ears. My long scarlet strands of hair are draped, covering my face. Looking down, my eyes slightly widen at the scene before me.
The ninja's head is completely obliterated, blood and skull fragments decorating the ground next to him. The dirt is covered in a pool of blood. Slowly glancing at my staff, I find one of the ends drenched in thick, crimson, blood.
Feeling a wetness on my face, I gently raise my free hand and touch at the skin. Flinching when I make contact, I retreat my hand and my eyes widen even more. Blood covers my fingers.
Looking at my teammates, I find Kakashi retraining a seething ninja who's glaring at me, tears in his eyes. Tazuna and my team, even my brother, look at me with terrified looks, it doesn't bother me. The one look that stand me in the chest is the evident fear in my brother's azure eyes.
Tears sting at my eyes, what did I do?

SAYONARA, My beloved readers!
?¿If you could travel to any anime/fandom, which one would it be?¿
For me, it's either TWILIGHT (don't judge), CRIMINAL MINDS, or NARUTO. It's a serious tiebreaker!
