chapter eight
Looking at my hands, I see nothing that comes of interest to me. There's dirt, but it's hard to see it with the dim flickering light that hangs from the ceiling.
I'm in some sort of cage, and it's not very large. Sitting criss cross on the floor takes majority of the space I am given. It's cold, and I like to think that if I push the thought of it being being cold away; that I wouldn't be cold.
Some of my hair falls in front of my eye, but I do nothing about it. I perfer for the hair to stay in front of my eye. It would only be less effort in the long run than having to move it.
The door to the room opens with a creeking sound, but I dare not to look up. More lights crashes into the room, and I listen to footsteps come closer to me. Why am I the one here?
"You look pathetic," her voice says. "I should've gotten somebody else. But compared to the others, you're weak. Maybe you were a good choice."
"I feel so honored," I growl.
She laughs, "You should! We should throw a party, don't you think? You could be the guest of honor but trapped in a cage. You're trapped in a cage like some wild beast. Don't you love it?"
There's no need for me to reply. She has the upper hand, and whoever she's working with does too. Fucking crazy bitch.
I like my slightly dry lips questioning why I didn't realize she was this crazy before. Of course I knew she was crazy, anybody could tell you that, but if only I knew then what I know now.

Laurance's POV
"Kidnapped?"
The question seemed almost foreign coming from my mouth. Of course I should be used to the thought, or announcement, of somebody being kidnapped by now, but Y/N being kidnapped is something totally different.
Surely she didn't tell Charlie she would work with us right? I think. And if she did, we would've heard something by now. Even if she did tell Charlie, none of the bad guys would have know of her existence yet. We've had her tucked away and a secret amongst the world.
"Yes, I just said that. I didn't think I would have to repeat myself," Charlie says. "One of you need to go rescue her." He walks away from us leaving us to deal with the situation at hand. He sucks, and I'm now starting to wish he was the one who got kidnapped. That way, I wouldn't have the need to rescue him.
It's silent. When trying to save a person who is kidnapped, there is always the chance of being caught. When you're caught, who knows what could happen. From looking from each of our eyes, there's a mixed emotions. Do I save Y/N, or do I not save her flashes repeatedly. Ryder volunteers to go, and it makes me want to do it myself. As selfish as it sounds, if I do it then she may actually like me. But then again, I may be the very last person she wants to see right now.
"Vylad should do it," I pipe up, and Ryder glares at me using the excuse of how they're family. I push his statement aside. "He's quiet and smart, he's also slim and shorter than you and me, Ryder. Besides, Y/N thinks very highly of him."
Vylad stares at me with a blank face. "I don't physically carry out the missions. . ." he says, casting his eyes down at his feet, stiffening. Alex grabs onto his hand intertwining their fingers. She smiles warmly at him, and he becomes untense. "I wouldn't know how to do it. I'd freeze. At least behind a screen I'm apart of the mission, but I tell you guys what to do. Why not have Alex do it?"
She stiffens at his words. She could probably do it, but I'd rather have either Ryder or me do it. Sure, we're taller than her, and she is slimmer than we are because of the way we're built. But would she really be a good choice? She's carried out missions before, but what would happen if she were ought to be caught?
Charlie walks back up to us, coffee in hand, demanding an answer. He taps his foot on the ground harshly, and rapidly, with a stone cold stare. My eyes watch his foot move, and I end up drowning the sound of the voices around me. In the end, I have no idea who was decided. A hand is placed on my shoulder, and I jump at the sudden contact. I look to the side to see Vylad with me. The other three are gone, and it's just the two of us.
"You ready for it?"
I choke back my spit, "I'm actually the one doing it?"
"Of course not," he gives me a puzzled look before continuing. "You must've not been paying attention. Alex was chosen, and Charlie was happy about it. I seriously need to check that man into a mental hospital, or something."
"Alex is doing it?"
He nods his head yes and reassures me that she'll be fine. Now I have two things to worry about: the safety of Y/N and Alex. What's next? Will our secret of working here be exposed?

Alex's POV
I stare into the mirror before me and place the red lipstick on the dresser underneath it. I swallow the lump in my throat harshly and breath through my mouth. Slipping a hand through my hair, I sigh. If I fail this, Y/N could be screwed. I could be screwed. I may just get one of us killed and if not one of us. . . I could kill us both. I slap my cheek to get rid of the negative thoughts. I have to have happy thoughts and then everything will turn out okay. Right? I listen to the sound of the door open. The sound only reminds me of what's ahead, and I jump.
"Laurance, I can't do this. Please don't make me do this."
Only it wasn't Laurance.
I fell a pair of arms wrap around my waist and a kiss be placed on the side of my neck. I look down and close my eyes, and a tear nearly slips from my eye down my cheek. I open my eyes and wrap my arms over his. He lets out a breath behind me, and I have to try to force myself not to cry.
"Never let go," I say, feeling a drop of the liquid trail down my cheek in defeat. His grip tightens and so does mind. "Hold me and never let go. I can't do this Vylad. What if. . . what if I fail? I could--"
"I'll make sure that you'll both okay. We'll save you if anything happens. But you need to remember that you've gone on too many mission like this, and training, and you'll do fine. Don't doubt what you can do because I won't either. You're too damn good for that."
I look behind me, and he kisses my lips softly. Another tears slips down my cheek, and he pulls away and wipes it away with his thumb. I look at his face with blurred vision. Could this be the last time I get to see his face? I kiss him again, afraid of losing him, and the door opens once more.
"We wanted to wish you luck," Laurance says, coughing to catch our attention. I pull away to look at the two boys in front of me. Charlie walks in behind them, but stays, leaning, in the doorframe. Vylad's blushing, but I continue to hold him close to me. I don't want to let him go, but I know have to.
"Stay safe, but you better come back with my sister," Ryder adds, and gets punched by Laurance. I let go of Vylad, and he hesitantly lets go of me. I glance back at him when I start to walk towards Charlie, and the boys move aside to make a path for me. The fear in my eyes isn't hard to miss, and the heartbreak in Vylad's only makes it worse.
I'm given a short ride, and Charlie wishes me luck and disappears into the retreating car. I'm forced to walk a little further to my destination, and I'm thankful for it being nighttime. I take a look around the building, and I can see a window. It's not opened all the way, in fact it's only open enough for my arm to hit inside, but if I can find a way to open it even more, I can most likely fit my entire body through it. There's a screen, but that's easy to get rid of. Sometimes sneaking out of my room comes in handy.
I find a way to fully open the door, and I slide my body through it. I try to make the least amount of noise I possibly can, and because I don't have anybody else to tell me where to go, I decide to take a random hallway. The hallway leads me to a room, and I press my ear against the door. I don't hear anything, so I slowly open the door and peak in. There's nobody inside, and I walk inside closing the door behind me. There's an air vent on the ceiling, and I look around for something to give me a boost up. I see a smaller sized table and bring it over to the air vent. I pry it open and squeeze myself into it climbing inside. Who knows where this will take me, but let's hope it's to Y/N.
"Okay Alex," I whisper to myself. "Just forget the fact that you're afraid of tight spaces and that you're in an air vent, and you're fine! Yeah, fine!" I see a flickering light come from before me, and Y/N's voice is faint. "Bingo." When I reach the air vent, I look down and only see Y/N. She's in a cage, so this will be fun to get her out.
The air vent goes down in a crash, and I bite my lip at the loud noise. Y/N looks up and sees me. I don't know if she's happy or angered to see me. Maybe both. . . ? I slip down from the air vent and cuss at the impact the floor gave to my ankle.
"By the door," she whispers. "There's keys. Hurry, quick, I don't know when she'll be back."
I nod my head and room to the door. Grabbing the keys from the wall, I sprint back to Y/N. There's a few keys on the keychain, and it takes me a few tries to find the correct key. But when I do, the door opens. Crap.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here? A rescue mission gone wrong?"
I hate my life.

I'm thrown into the tiny cell and wince at the impact. She smiles a wicked smile at me, and I rush over to try to choke her when the door is quickly shut and locked. She takes a step back, and I can't reach her. She's lucky I can't or else she'd be dead by now. I don't care how much trouble I'd get. I would kill her if I could.
"Now be good," she cooes, acting as if we're children. "I'll be back soon. Until then, behave. It's not like you can do much anyway.
She walks away, and Y/N glares at me.
"You just had to take him away from me, and you didn't even get us out of here before we had gotten caught."
"Why are you being so mean?" I snapped. "Why are you being so mean? I'm the one who tried saving you!"
She scowls in my face and looks at the air vent cover on the ground. I keep my mouth shut.
"The air vent probably gave it away. You have no idea how much I don't like you," she snaps. When I ask her what I did, she tells me not to play dumb. "You knew I liked Vylad. But you decided to take him for yourself? Was Ryder not enough for you? I know you snuck out with him a few times."
I bite my lip after seconds of hesitation. That's until I say something. "Hit me. Punch me. Say anything you want to me. Hurt me all you want. I won't stop you, and I won't fight back. But just remember, I didn't know."
She took advantage of my words but all I could think of was how can I cover all of this up.
