Chapter 6

      -unedited-
I open my eyes, the light shinning, rather brightly, into them. For the first time in months, the sun decided to show its face here again, here in The Big Apple.

I pulled the covers off me and stand up off the bed, walking out into the kitchen.

Since Aprils not up yet, I decided to make some breakfast- usually like every morning- eggs and toast.

I grabbed the eggs out of the fridge, setting them on the counter before grabbing two slices of whole wheat bread.

Bending down towards the cupboard, I grab a small pan, setting it on medium on the stove.

For some reason, everything that happened yesterday was blurry. Or, maybe it was the fact I didn't want to remember it.

I mean, I remember the part about the foot clan coming. Oh, and that strange guy- Casey Jones- he saved me.

But, there was something else that really boggled my mind.

"Morning, Andie. What's cookin'?" I heard April ask.

I crack an egg in the pan, "over-light eggs and, hopefully, non-burnt toast."

She responds with a chuckle as she sits down at the table, pulling out her phone. I grab a water bottle, throwing one to her and drinking one myself.

"Oh so, today I have to take you to the turtles' lair," April begins as I choke on my water. "Now that you know of their existence, you have to meet their Sensei."

She finished without realizing I was choking. "Holy shit..." I cuss under my breath, putting down my water bottle.

"You forgot, didn't you?" She asked, a small smile plastered onto her lips.

I slightly nod, "more like I didn't want to remember."

She laughed lightly as I put two eggs on her plate, along with some, thankfully, non- burnt toast.

I turn off the stove, putting an egg and toast on my plate as well as I make my way over to the table.

"Thanks!" She says, digging into her meal. I nod, eating mine at a rather slow pace.

After breakfast, we decided to get ready. I, for one, didn't know what to wear, but April, she goes with her usual.

"Umm, April?" I ask, walking over to her.

She was sitting in front of my full-body length mirror, doing her makeup.

"Yeah?" She asked, applying some mascara for the finish.

"What exactly do I wear?"

She closed the mascara, getting up from her spot. She walked over to my closet, picking out a gray tank top and shorts. (See picture above :3)

"So, by the choice of clothes, you're saying to dress like I usually do?" I ask, a slight chuckle followed by after.

She smiles, "because that's the way we like ya." She winks before walking out of my room to let me change.

After doing so, I brush out my hair, letting it stay straight, then walk out. As I was walking, I place on my gray beanie, then cleaning up the dishes at the table.

"Hey, no no! I got the dishes tonight." I heard April yell from the bathroom.

"Are you sure?" I call back out, still loading a few in the dishwasher.

"Positive. Now, let's roll before they start to worry." She comes out of the bathroom, her haired perfectly curled down her shoulders.

April wore the same attire as last time, only that time we went out to the store.

Though, instead of a black leather jacket, this one was yellow. Her makeup was done heavy- as usual- and her shoes, healed.

"Trying to impress Casey?" I ask, a smirk showing clear on my face.

She rolls her eyes, "very funny."

After about five more minutes, we head out down to the lobby.

Even though we both had cars, April thought walking would be better. Get more exercise.

Though, what I didn't expect was for her to stop right in front of a manhole covering, better yet, the passage way into the sewers.

"April?" I ask, looking from the manhole, then up at her.

"Help me lift this, yeah?"

I nod, bending down to help her lift the covering off. Surprisingly, they are a lot heavier than they look.

She dusts herself off before heading in, looking behind her to see if I was following.
Which as sure as hell, I wasn't.

"You coming?" She yells up. Her voice echoed as she went farther down.

"Give me one good reason why I should go down there!" I shout, clearly confused on what she was doing.

I heard her sigh, "Andie, this is where they live."

I raise and eye brow, walking over to the hole. I look down, April was waiting there with her hands on her hips.

"This has to be number 1 on the top ten most weirdest things to do in New York." I mumble, slowly climbing down the unsettling, moist latter.

"Alright, their lair is down this way." April says, pointing to a tunnel to the left.

I nod as I brush off my hands, following her close behind.

As I breath in through my nose, the scent of the sewer hits hard, making my eyes water just a bit. I look over at April who doesn't have a single 'discomfort' written at all on her face.

"How do you stand the smell?" I ask, plugging my nose.

"I've been down here so many times. You'll get use to it, eventually." She responds, with a small smile.

Faint voices could be heard in the distance, followed by a more 'Italian food' scent, added to the mucky one.

"And here we are!" April concludes, walking backwards into the lair.

I lightly gasp as I see what seems to be a home, but also a dojo.
Far in front of me were a bunch of computer screens, strange buttons around on the desk. An interesting put-together of a living room to the right, and to the left, four bedroom, all separated.

For down to the right held a dojo. I'm guessing that's where these guys trained.

"This is pretty cool." I say, walking in, looking around with a slight spin.

"Andie!" Michelangelo's voice rang through the lair, very loudly.

Before I could look to see where he was, I was engulfed into a bone-crushing hug.

"Mikey, please put... put me down." I say, loosing some breath.

His grip was super tight, almost so tight it was hard to breath. Not that it was his fault, a lot of people give bear hugs.

"Oh, uh, sorry, dudette." He mumbles, rubbing the back of his neck embarrassed.

I smile, "no need to be sorry. It's fine."

He smiles back warmly as the other turtles come in.

"Greetings, Andie." Donatello greets with a slight wave.

I chuckle, "greetings, fellow living being."

I notice Raphael smirk to my comment, a toothpick in his mouth.

"Good to see you again, Andie." Leonardo bowed, I nodding in response.

Mikey immediately goes over to April, flirting with her. April says it was 'normal' for him to do so.

"No hello from the ever- so- famous, Raphael?" I smirk, crossing my arms.

He rolled his eyes, "hello to you too, Andie."

A small smile peered through my lips as I turn away, unexpectedly looking towards the dojo area.

I lightly gasp as I see a huge rat make it's way over to where we were all standing.

"A-April, why is there a gigantic rat over there?" I ask, reaching for my best friend for comfort.

She smiled, "Andie, meet Master Splinter."

The rat- errr- Master Splinter, was now in front of me, his hands folded behind his back.

"It's very nice to meet you, Ms. Rose." He said, smiling up at me.

Okay okay, Andie, don't freak. He's just a rat, a rat who knows ninjutsu, and who knows your last name...

         Keep your cool.

"And to you as well, sir." I say, slightly bowing my head.

"No need for sir, call me Master Splinter. I've heard many stories about you, Andie."

I slightly glare back at April who was smiling sheepishly. "You have?" I ask, now facing back at him.

"Oh, not only from April, but from Raphael." He says, pointing over to a flushed- face Raphael.

I giggle, putting my hands on my hips, raising an eye brow.

"Is that so? All good things I hope." I smile, looking back from Raph to Splinter.

Splinter chuckled, "yes, all good things. He even said how beautiful you were and-"

"Ya know, Sensei, why don't you just tell Andie, why she's here." Raphael cuts him off, rather quickly.

"I guess your right, Raphael. Andie, come." Splinter says, motioning towards the dojo.

April and I sit in front of Splinter, the brothers standing besides us. "Andie, you and April are being hunted by no other than the Shredder," Splinter says, "You both must be protected. Everywhere you go is a risk, a risk of your lives. My sons will be watching over you, daily, protecting you in the shadows," He continues as I slowly nod, trying to collect everything he was telling me.

"Master Splinter, if you don't mind me asking, who is Shredder? And why exactly does he want us?" I ask, April scooting close towards the rat.

"He is a master of Ninjutsu who was an arch-enemy to the turtles and I. A man who created us, called Eric Saccs, worked with Aprils father. Now Eric was an evil man. The shredder and Eric played Aprils father, which eventually led up to Mr. O'Neal being murdered."
Splinter continues to talk about how he and the turtles became mutants. To be truthful, I had no idea April was, well Is the reason these turtles' and Splinter are still alive.

"The Shredder is after you both because you and April are so close. April knows everything about my sons and I, and from you being her roommate, and long term best friend, they assumed you knew of our existence as well. They plan on kidnapping, or torching you both for answers." Splinter finished. At the corner of my eye I saw the brothers tense, though one of their gazes never left me.

April and I slowly come to our feet, I brushing some dust off my shorts.
"Well, thank you." I smile, looking over at the turtles.

"Why thank us?" Leo asks, walking over to April and I.

"You guys are the reason I'm still alive, really. I mean, you guys could just not risk it and let them take me, but you didn't. So, thank you."

         Raphael smirked, "no problem, princess."

I roll my eyes playfully as April placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Come, Andie. It's getting late. We might as well get going."

I nod, but I felt a strong grip on my wrist.

"Can't you guys stay? Only till morning?" Mikey asked, hope in his blue eyes.

I look at April who only shrugs. "I kinda have work tomorrow, Mikey. Maybe another time." I slightly smile.

His smile fades, turning into a frown that made my heart shatter.

     This turtle, I swear.

"If I'm late for work tomorrow, someone is getting punched." I threaten as April laughs.

"Awww yeah boi! It's a sleepover!" Mikey yelled, jumping around.

"You really did it now." April whispered, chuckling as she walked by.

I laughed to myself as we all walk over towards the couch where all the brothers sat.

"Any one of you guys have a t-shirt I can use?" I ask, April saying she needs one as well. Through, them being mutant turtles, I didn't assume so.

"I got some!"

We all turn our heads towards the entrance of the lair, seeing where the voice came from.

"Casey?" April asks as he starts walking over towards us.

He shrugged, "I got a call from Mikey. Oh, and hey, Andie." He smirked at the end, making me roll my eyes.

"Sup, Casey. Now, can I have that t-shirt-"

I was cut off by a huge, black t-shirt be thrown at my face. I look to see that Raphael threw it, he leaning against the wall.

I raised an eye brow, "how- why do you have this?"

He smirked, "just because I'm a turtle doesn't mean I don't have clothes."

I smile to myself as I go to get up, April leading me over to the bathroom to change.

She happened to change in the shower just to make it quicker.

"You know, I'm surprised you're even here right now." April commented, throwing her shoes to the floor.

I slid off my one shirt, sliding on Raphaels. "Honestly, me too. I mean, there's just something about these guys that I just love."

She agreed with me as she changed, now us wearing big t-shirts and spandex underneath.

Luckily, I wore those today. I was surprised myself that April had some also.

We grab our other clothes and placed them into a plastic bag Leo gave us, along with our shoes. Without knowing, I started smelling my shirt I had on. It smelt awful like cologne and a hint of pepper.

But, I wasn't complaining.

We walk back into the 'living room' and sit down. April sat next to Casey on the couch as I sat on the floor.

"You guys look comfy." Donnie chuckled, nibbling on a poptart.

"Yeah, thanks for lending me the t-shirt, Raph." I say, looking over to where I last saw him.

He nodded, walking over towards me, taking a seat on the ground next to me.

"What do ya guys wanna dooo?" Mikey asked, clicking on the tv.

April jumped up, "watch a horror movie!"

Everyone seemed to nod they're head in agreement. We all decided to watch Lights Out.

To be honest, it wasn't that scary. Some parts were, you know, a little, but nothing that was going to keep me up at night.

Or so I thought...

It's been an hour since we've watched the movie. April was passed out on Casey's lap, Mikey on the floor a little ways besides me, Leo on the other end of the couch, and yet Raphael still lied wide away.

I sigh quietly to myself, trying to ignore the negative thoughts of the movie, and stand up. I walk over to a pile of blankets and cover each person up.

Finally, I walk over to Raph, I would be sleeping awfully close to him, but hey, there's not a lot of room...sorta.

"Here." I say, handing him the last blanket.

"I don't need it. Take it for yourself." He said, taking the tooth pick out of his mouth.

"No, it gets cold down here at night, according to April. So, since your ectothermic, you take it."

He lightly growled to himself, taking the blanket. Since I thought he was going to use it- like I wanted him to- I lay down, curled up a bit.

What I didn't expect was he to move close to me to where our legs touched, and wrapped the blanket around both of us.

At first I was going to protest, but this feeling inside my stomach made me stop.

"Raph, what are you doing?" I ask, trying to hide the blush against my face.

"Keeping us both warm. Now, go to sleep." He responded, a small smile forming on my lips.

"Thanks, I guess."

I heard him sigh, not in a bad way, but in more of a relaxed way. "No problem, Andie

Slowly, I started to feel warm again. And better yet, not afraid.

A few more minutes passed by, soon enough, I fell asleep with a turtle by my side.
