Chapter 3
Andie's pov-
Aprils been acting strange, and when I say strange, I mean real strange.
I was just finishing up my daily jogging, I had to relieve my stress some how and jogging seemed to do the trick!
Of course, music is my motivation when I jog. I hate being disturbed when I'm jogging, or when my musics playing. April, out of all the people, should know that. But, for some crazy reason, she decided to call me twelve times, while I was out for only thirty minutes.
And when she calls, the music on my my phone shuts off until she stops calling. My ringtone is playing over and over and over in my head right now, and it's driving me insane.
I make a left, jogging towards the apartment, trying to not throw my phone at some random stranger. The question remains: Why didn't I pick up my phone?
Well, I actual don't really know. I'm so concentrated right now, so determined to get jogging done, I don't even want to speak to anyone.
Then, my horrors came true, the awful, annoying, loud ringtone from my phone cracked through my ear drums.
Sighing annoyed, I pull out my phone from my back pocket and hit 'answer.'
I place my phone up to my ear, breathing in heavily, What?" I ask, clearly annoyed.
"Just checking on you." April says sweetly. Guessing she heard the annoyance in the tone of my voice.
"Checking on me?" I question, with a slight attitude hinting in my voice.
"Yes..?"
"You called me thirteen times, April!" I shout. I wasn't mad at her, but surely enough, I was annoyed.
I'm blessed that I have a friend like her: caring, protective, but gracious! She really goes all out.
"Right- sorry."
I sigh once more, ending the call and quickly texting her that I would be home in a few. I turn off my phone, music still playing, and shove it into my pocket, continuing my jog.
April is honestly more of an older sister than a friend or roommate.
------
"I called her, she seemed fine."
"You sure it wasn't some...voice changer?"
"Yes, Leo I'm sure. No one could possible nail Andie's attitude."
I take my ear away from the door of my apartment, stepping back a bit. I just got back from jogging, once I was about to open the door I heard voices. So, that should explain my stalker-ish actions. But wait, is it stalkerish if it's my apartment?
"She should be home soon, so you guys should go. We're safe here." April insisted.
The sound of people scrambling away, and the window opening made me barge into the room, looking around questionably.
I looked over at April who had a anxious expression written all over her face. She looked like a child who broke a glass; playing it innocent.
"Alright spill." I order, crossing my arms. She looks around nervously, then meets her aquamarine eyes back up to mine.
"What are you talking about?" She asks, standing up.
"Who was in here?"
"What do you mean 'who was in here?' I'm the- I was the only one in...in here."
I shake my head, walking over to my bedroom, "Again, this," I point at her, "Is not ok." Then walk into my room, shutting the door behind me.
I sigh in defeat and plop down on my bed. I sit up, taking off my shoes and shocks, then get up to change into something more comfortable.
I simply slide on my flannel pajama pants, and mid-thigh length black t-shirt, pulling my hair into a messy bun.
I sit down back on my bed, crossing my legs and turn on the tv. At first I do a bit of channel surfing, then the news flashed on- everything seemed a little bit more interesting today.
"Today on breaking news: The evil criminal, The Shredder, has broken out of custody, along with two other devious men, bebop and rocksteady. Everyone must be cautious of their surroundings. If Shredder or the two men are seen or have been captured by one of you, call 911 immediately. Well everyone, that's all we have right now. We'll be right back after this break."
I turn down the volume, looking strangely at the picture of Shredder and the two guys. The first one was a African American man with a purple mohawk as his hair. The one besides him, he was very pale with red hair and a mustache/ beard. These men didn't seem scary. But, the shredder was another story. He seems very freighting, like he could kill anyone in seconds.
The strange thing was that, I had a feeling April was linked in all this. I mean, she knew 'The Falcon' who apparently took down Shredder, but who knows?
Just, something about all this makes me question things...
I flip off the tv, sitting up, walking around my bedroom. I brush my fingers over the framed pictures of my younger brother, Cameron, and his twin Alex. Also, in the frame next to theirs, my mom. My beautiful mother.
A frown picked at my lips as I move my fingers to the next picture, my dad.
It was a picture of him when he was twenty seven, in his military uniform. He died in action when I was nine. He was my best friend, I could always count on him, always. It didn't break just mine, it my moms heart too when he passed.
It's been ten years.
"Hey, Andie I was wondering if-" April cuts off, opening the door a little wider. "You ok?"
I blink and look at her, blinking fast, then back down at the picture. "Oh yeah, I'm fine. What do you need?" I ask, wiping my eyes and turning towards her.
"Wanna go to the store with me? We're running out of food, and I'm
Just bored."
I nod in response walking out with her. April knew about my dad, her dad actual died too when she was younger. We both suffer from that loss.
"You look fancy." I smirk at April. She rolls her eyes playfully as she puts on her black leather jacket over a tight gray tank top and black pants.
"Can't go out looking like I just rolled out of bed now can't I?" She laughs talking about my clothing choices.
I shake my head as I walk back into my room to change.
------
"Andie! Let's go!" April calls out. I fix my hair as I put a purple beanie on then run out of the room.
I looked at April was wearing platform heels, making her look about two inches taller than she was. Her black hair fell down her shoulders in loose curls, her face patted with makeup.
"Are you sure we aren't impressing anyone at the store?" ask, sliding on my white converse.
"I'm just preparing myself if that would ever happen." She smiled grabbing her bag.
I laugh to myself as we walk out of the apartment and down towards the store.
By the time we were done shopping it was dark out. April and I's stomach was aching for food. "Wanna get some food, April? I have to pick up some stuff from work so we might as well just eat there." I say, stopping by the restaurant I work at.
"Please!" April says excited as we walk inside. I tell her to sit down at a booth with the bags from the store as I walk towards the cash register.
"Can I help you?" A girl asks. I didn't recognize her, maybe she's knew.
"I work here. I was just wondering if I could get my paper work in my office." I simply say smiling.
The blonde hair girl pops her bubblegum, looking at me up down. "Sure, go ahead." She moves out of the way as I lift up the counter slot to walk through.
"Nice outfit. What are you some hunter?" She jokes, talking about my pink camouflage shirt.
"Really? That's the insult you come up with? Wow." I roll my eyes, walking past her and into th back room.
I grab my folder of papers and walk back out, seeing the same girl blocking my way.
"Move." I snap, looking up at her. She was a lot taller than me, but who isn't taller than me. I'm only 5'2.
"No." She smirks.
I ignore her and try to walk past her, but she shoves me sending me back to where I began. "Move!" I yell, April looks in my direction and gets up.
"Sorry can't do."
I growl as I shove past her and crawl underneath the counter. "You better be carful who you mess with." I whisper, teeth clenched.
I walk back over to April who was busy glaring at the new girl.
"Calm down, Wonder Woman. Let's just eat." I tell April as she blinks back into reality.
She nods as we take out our menus, ready to order.
