008
Louis walked into the room, seeing Elizabeth looking through a book.
She lifted her head up once she heard the door, and smiled kindly at him.
"Hi, Louis. Have a seat." She said, gesturing to the chair. Louis sat down on the chair and scooted himself up to the table.
"So, as you know, we suspect that it's the same person each time, given that we identified it's the same weapon being used, and the fact that the suspect leaves a letter each time," she began. "Well, if it's the vice principal, as you suspect, I believe more evidence was gathered."
Louis looked at her, perplexed. "What do you mean?"
"Your student, Charlie, showed me a video of him and a teacher arguing today, and I showed it to my employees." She responded. Louis remembered he told him he was recording the argument.
"Alright, well, what did your employees say?" He asked.
"They said that if she's found dead, we'll arrest him and take him into custody." She responded.
"I want you to spy on him and see if he does anything. Follow him and see his
whereabouts." She added. She suddenly coughed dryly, and quickly took a sip from the water bottle beside her.
"That's a big offer. Are you sure you want me to do it?" He doubted.
"You wanted to help, right?" She raised her brow and questioned, setting the water bottle back down.
"Yes? I suppose I could do it. I don't have a camera though."
"No worries, we have plenty! This is a serious job where you do have to pay close attention, so just do your best." She encouraged.
"Okay, I'll try."
But Louis doubted himself.
____
I don't got time to be descriptive about a house, so here.
Louis decided to get right to work and followed James home. He had a nice pace by the looks of it.
He sat there watching James get out of his car and walk into his house.
Louis made sure to park on the side of a random house near the trees like he usually sees, just to avoid suspicion.
He knew it was gonna be a while, so he took his phone out and began scrolling through Twitter. After a couple of minutes, he heard a door open and saw that it was James.
He put down his phone and got ready to follow him, but not until something caught his eye.
A shovel in his hand. Louis immediately took out his camera and began taking pictures of him as he walked behind his house.
He thought it could mean nothing, as James could just be gardening; but he wasn't taking any chances.
Louis took out his phone again and searched the news for any recent murders. There were, but they all involved someone being shot or killed in a knife fight.
He took this as evidence though, as James could be about to bury someone. He waited for the picture to release itself from the camera, and started the car and drove home.
___
Louis sipped his coffee, watching James talking to one of their colleagues.
"Mr Tomlinson?" He heard the familiar voice call him.
"Hello, Alicia." He smiled softly.
"Umm," she looked behind him for a second, before her eyes moved back to his. "I was just wondering if there will be a project soon so I can prepare?" She fidgeted with her fingers as she asked, her eyes darting back and forth behind him.
"I haven't been issued any projects yet, but when I do, I'll let you know." He answered. She nodded, and walked into the classroom.
Louis noticed she was a bit off, like she was nervous. Her tone didn't seem right either.
He asked her the other day if she went to see the counsellor, and she said she hasn't. She gave a reason why, saying she was not ready to talk about it, but even then she seemed off.
He couldn't keep his eyes off her the whole day, worried that something was wrong other than Daniel's death.
He watched as Charlie came up to her and touched her shoulder, beginning to rub it, looking to be comforting her.
Should I try talking to her? He thought.
He guessed she probably wasn't the only person he should be worrying about.
