Healing Heart
Aisuru's POV
"Are you sure about this, Aisuru?" Dad asked me. I smiled at him.
"I'll be fine, Daddy. It's going to be me, Luffy, Ace and Aoi as well as Whitebeard at their summer home. Luffy promised me that no one else would be there." I said.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Dad asked. I grabbed his hand.
"I'll be okay, Daddy. I promise. You know Luffy won't hurt me. Plus, it's protected property, so there won't be any press able to get me." I said. Dad pulled me in to his arms.
"I know, I just.... I'm so scared of losing my baby again." He said. I returned my father's hug.
"I'll be fine, Daddy. It's only three weeks. I'll call you every night before bed. I promise." I said. He stroked my hair gently.
"Okay, baby girl. If you ever want to come home, just call me and I'll come get you." He said and kissed my head.
"Hey, daddy?" I asked, looking up at him.
"Yes, princess?" He asked.
"Well... The carnival will be in town the same week I get back. Do you think that the three of us, You, me and Makino, could all go?" I asked. Dad smiled brightly at me. He leaned down and kissed my cheeks.
"Of course, princess." He said. I smiled at him. I heard a knock on the door.
"Luffy's here!" Makino called. I pulled away from my dad.
"Hey, Ai-chan. Hi, Shanks." Luffy said as he entered the room with his signature bright grin. He wrapped his arm around my waist.
"Ready? Do you need help with anything else?" He asked. I shook my head.
"I'm ready." I said. Luffy smiled at me and grabbed my suitcase.
"Hey, Luffy." Dad said. Luffy and I looked up at him.
"I know that I don't need to say it, but just to ease a father's conscience... Take care of her, okay?" He asked. Luffy grinned at Dad.
"No worries, Shanks. I'll keep her safe." He said with a bright grin. Dad drew a breath of relief.
"Have fun. Be safe." He said and kissed my head.
"See you in three weeks, Daddy! Bye, Makino!" I said, hugging the woman on my way out. Makino returned my hug.
"See you in three weeks." She said. I kissed her cheek and let Luffy drag me out to Ace's car where Ace and Aoi waited. Of course there was a news reporter waiting for us, but Luffy got me in Ace's car and put my suitcase in the trunk and jumped in with me before the reporter could ask anything harmful.
"I'm glad that you're doing okay, Aisuru." Aoi said to me from the passenger seat. I smiled at her.
"Thanks, Aoi-chan..." I said softly. She grinned at me happily.
You probably want to know why I'm heading out to Whitebeard's summer home with my boyfriend and his siblings.
Well, it's getting a little bit harder to avoid the press from home. I couldn't even get to work. Thats when Luffy remembered his adoptive father's summer home. Ace called Whitebeard and got permission to bring me out there. So Makino extended my leave time to three weeks so I could regain my confidence and hide from the press a bit better.
I watched the scenery pass as Ace drove us out to the summer home. From what Luffy told me, it was way up in the mountains near a lake. Apparently Whitebeard owned the whole lake property. He wanted to build a summer resort up there, but "things needed to be taken care of first" is what Ace told me.
I felt Luffy hold my hand. I looked over at him. He smiled at me and stroked the back of my hand with his thumb gently. I smiled at him. I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder. He rested his head on my head. I smiled and closed my eyes. May as well take a nap.
Time skip
I woke up probably an hour later. Luffy was still sound asleep on me. His mouth hung open and he was smiling. I smiled up at him and carefully adjusted us so I was sitting up comfortably, but he was still leaning on me as he slept.
I turned my attention to the scenery again. Aoi was driving now since Ace had fallen asleep. Both boys were snoring.
"Finally, I get some girl talk." Aoi spoke, noticing I was awake. I looked at her.
"Hm?" I asked. She giggled.
"Sorry, I don't really get to hang out with my girls from high school now... Probably also since if I did all of them would as if they could take a picture of me drinking Starbucks or eating McDonalds with them to prove that they know me to their co-workers." She said with a chuckle. I smiled at her.
"It's fine." I said softly. She grinned at me.
"That's a relief." She said. We pulled over and rearranged to where Ace was sleeping in the backseat with Luffy leaning against him while I sat in the passenger seat next to Aoi.
"It's kinda sweet seeing them like that again." She said, glancing in the mirror at the guys. I looked over at her.
"Hm? What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, I'm sure that you've noticed Sabo's scars." Aoi said. I nodded.
"Sabo always plays it off like he got a few burns in a burning house trying to save a cat when he was ten. He's not lying about it, that is what happened, he just forgets to mention how extensive his damage really is." She said. She glanced down for a second, then her eyes were back on the road.
"What do you mean? His injuries were worse?" I asked. Aoi sighed softly and nodded.
"He was in a coma for nearly ten months." She said. The words hit me hard.
"Ten months? He was hurt that bad?!" I asked. Aoi nodded again.
"Extensive damage to his lungs from smoke inhalation, third degree burns stretching from his left hip all the way up his chest, left shoulder, and a little on to his arm. If he turns his head just a little bit, you can see he was burnt up on the ear, too." She said. I stared down.
"It was a very scary situation for us. We didn't know when he was going to wake up, if he ever woke up, that is." Aoi said. I stared at her again. Her eyes were fixed on the road, but i could see them becoming slightly misty with tears. She blinked rapidly to clear the tears away from her eyes.
"Ace, Sabo and Luffy have always been closer than all of our other siblings. They even have Marco and Thatch beat and for a while, Marco refused to go anywhere with out Thatch. Ace and Luffy clung to each other while Sabo was in the hospital. It was even worse when he woke up." She said.
"How?" I asked.
"He had amnesia." Aoi said. I stared in bewilderment.
"I affected him until He, Ace and I were fifteen when Ace was beaten up pretty badly by one of the school gangs after school. Ace was put in the hospital and we honestly thought we were going to lose him. The fear of losing his brother brought Sabo's memories back." Aoi said.
"I had no idea." I said.
"Sabo thinks that if he talks about it, then people will pity him. So he only talks about how the scars got there, not the events that followed." Aoi said.
"I... I guess I can understand that..." I said quietly, raising my hand to my shoulder where one of my burns sat. Aoi reached over and grabbed my hand.
"Hey, don't worry. Scars heal. Your scars don't make you who you are. All they are are markings on your body." She said. I giggled at her.
"Hm? What it is?" She asked.
"That's close to what Luffy told me that night." I said, looking back at my boyfriend, still cuddling his older brother. It looked really cute. From how they were seated, it looks like Ace had woken up momentarily and wrapped his arms around his little brother, hugging him close before falling asleep again. I smiled at them.
"What happened with Sabo is also why Luffy moved in with Ace and I." She said. I looked at her.
"Doesn't Sabo live with you?" I asked. Aoi shook her head.
"Not officially. Our place is just a little bit closer to his work space than his actual apartment and he often works late. So instead of risking falling asleep driving all the way home, he often just stays the night. Ace and I have both offered him to just move in with us already so he's not wasting money on an apartment, but he says he doesn't want to be a bother." Aoi said.
"So, why did Luffy decide to move in with you and Ace rather than stay with Whitebeard?" I asked. Aoi smiled softly.
"After both Ace and Sabo's incidents, Luffy was terrified that something was going to happen to his two favorite brothers. And since he and Ace had basically become attached at the hip, he wanted to stay with him. Dad didn't have anything against it. He said that it was sweet, how much Luffy loves Ace." She said with a nostalgic smile on her face.
"Seeing them like that reminds me of older, simpler days when we didn't have to worry about work and school and the possibility of the Mafia chasing us down." She said. I froze.
"The Mafia?" I asked. She glanced at me.
"Well, I mean, I am kind of a famous actress that also happens to be one of the only two daughters of the world's most successful business man. People are always after us. But, Dad put us all through self-defense classes. Plus, it kinda helps having a brother in the Revolutionary Police. We've got protection out the asshole." She said with a small laugh. She squeezed my hand.
"And now you're under that protection, too, Aisuru. You're family now. " She said. She grinned over at me.
"Which is great, because I've always wanted a little sister." She said. I smiled at her happily.
"Oh, by the way... I hope you don't mind, but... Well, Dad told me he's storing things in the other rooms, so you're going to have to share with Luffy..." She said.
"It's no problem... I trust Luffy." I said, but my heart was racing a million miles a minute.
