Seventeenth Soul: Confession
~While Kid was in hell~
You walked down a beautiful path, wearing a flowy cloak over your clothes that concealed your face. It had been a week and there was no trace of Kid. What if he just played you? What if he's not coming back? Shaking your head you sighed. You were in Europe, working and resting.
"He would just leave if that was the case. I know time flows differently there. He's trying his best"
You muttered to yourself, trying to reassure your anxious heart. You were already done with most of the project so you got to have some me time. The weather was nice and the nature beautiful. Sitting under a tree deep in the forest you chanted something under your breath and your wand appeared in your hand, your eyes glowing beautifully and a crescent moon marking appearing on your forehead.
"What brings you to me?" The forest spirit called out.
"Lead me to the land of the ruined king, oh great spirit" You bowed.
"Gah! Do not speak of him in front of me!" The voice spat.
"I do not mean to disturb you. I know you have a marked tree. I sense it." You spoke cautiously.
"Yes, I hold one of the few gateways to the ruined land. It is a curse I must bear with"
"No more. I will destroy your gateway upon my entry to the cursed land" You assured.
"Many witches tried but none succeeded."
"I am not like other witches" You spoke as you revealed yourself to the tree.
"You're y.n the godhunter!" The spirit gasped. "I would have surely sensed you"
"False. I know how to conceal myself." You ran a hand through your soft hair. "Grant me passage and I will free you of your curse, you've suffered enough in my hands" You spoke apologetically.
"Nonsense! You saved us from the chaos the ruined king brought upon this Earth."
"But I also caused the chaos" You argued.
"But you had the courage to end it. You are the most respected witch amongst all witches. No one knew where you are, there are rumors about you. Surely there is a good reason for your disappearance?" The spirit asked curiously.
"I live among humans and keep myself hidden from magical entities." You answered honestly.
The spirit was a bit surprised but said nothing.
"I will lead you to the gateway. Thank you for saving us from him" He thanked you and there was a strong wind and he was gone.
Little orbs of light lit a path that lead up to the mountain. You followed the orbs and they lead you to an ancient tree with a swirly marking on it. Your heart sank upon seeing the mark. The mark of the ruined king.
"This is it" You whispered to yourself as you stood in front of the tree.
Running your hand on the pattern as you chanted in a dead language, glowing patterns and markings appeared on the tree and a small portal opened. Taking a shaky breath you stepped into the portal. You expected to find nothing on the other side. Nothing but desert and burned ruins. So it shocked you to see the wild beautiful forest growing on the other side.
Admiring the unique plants, you cautiously walked around, trying to get a sense of where you're out. It had been so long since you were here, so long since you were home.
Finding a worn path you decided to see where it would take you. The once cobblestone road was worn away, hidden beneath wild plants and vines. But you could still see patches of the reddish stone. Suddenly you had a sense of nostalgia. All you once had is right here. These ruins, these roads, they're what shaped you and nurtured you. You wanted to cry, to hug the once thriving land and apologize to it for the misfortune you brought upon it. Once known for peace and beauty before it was devoured by hatred and stained by blood. It was all going okay; the king would die and you and the prince would rule and change the unjust laws that caused the people to quiver in fear.
But then you had to cause so much trouble and make the king go on a murdering spree.
He sent people after you for years. You were always looking over your shoulder, paranoid of what would happen if you were caught. You cried in happiness when you heard of his passing. But he was bound to earth. His vengeful spirit seeking more bloodshed. He managed to manipulate and twist the minds of those residing in the palace, turning them into bloodthirsty animals. The next king was his nephew as he had no heir; and he drove him to madness. Whispering in his ear, causing him doubt and hatred. Eventually the maddened king trusted no one and sought war on his own people, marking them all as witches. The actual witches came to the rescue, it was an all out war, and they all laid their life on the line protecting the innocent and the weak. Few survived and most of them committed suicide soon after, still haunted by the shadow of war.
You and a handful of others were the only survivors, and all of you left your mother land as the memories of war and death drove you nearly to madness. You remember as you all worked on a spell to conceal the ruined kingdom from the rest of the world. You remember as you helped gather every last living citizen and lead them to a new land where they could start anew.
This is why no one knows anything of the cursed kingdom. The land was hidden away by the spell of the last witches, and soon the rest of the world forgot all about it. You entrusted trustworthy spirits with keeping gateways to the ruined kingdom, only those who wanted to help, of course.
But you knew by this point they were tired of this burden, so you were going to destroy all gateways but one--You!
Yes you were the first gateway, you could open the portal without any help. This is why you took this task upon yourself. They suffered enough because of you; you were done being selfish.
Coming to a flower-field you finally knew where you are. You saw the ruins of the imperial palace up ahead, blackened by the flames of retribution. People were tired of war so they mustered their strength for one last attack. This time they initiated the war, they took the war to the king, and god knows they burned everything down.
You could still hear their cries of freedom after the war was done. It was full of freedom yet chains, happiness yet sorrow. They had gained back what was theirs but in the process they lost a part of themselves and many loved ones. You wished that all the dead rest in peace, free from the shackles of vengeance.
Reaching the castle you stepped inside. The inside was burned but since it was made of stone the foundation held out strong during all these years. Plus time moved differently here; it was a side effect of the spell you cast. you wondered how the other witches were doing as you walked around. Your heart sank when you saw the prince's room. For a moment you wanted to believe that he was going to open the door and greet you with a smile, like he always did.
But you knew damn well that he's not there. He was dead, after all. You buried him yourself. It was time you paid a visit to him so you got up and walked.
His tomb was nothing worthy of a prince. But then again he didn't like fancy. When you got there your eyes teared up and you just threw yourself onto the grave, sobbing as you pawed at the dirt.
You would do anything to have him back. Anything. You still loved him as much as you did back then, and you knew damn well you would never stop loving him. It hurt knowing you would probably never see him. But Kid, he had sparked a hope within you. He would help you. Wiping your tears you laid comfortably on the grave, softly brushing your fingers against the soil, head resting down and knees curled up into your stomach.
Taking a deep shaky breath you started to sings softly; singing his favorite songs as you kept petting the soil. It brought you comfort and soothed the pain. You felt closer to him.
You knew how to summon souls. You had tried but every time you felt your brain melting and you would pass out from the pain. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Closing your eyes you kept singing softly and petting the soil.
"Y.n? What are you doing you weirdo?"
Kid asked as he offered you a hand. Your heart skipped a beat when you heard his voice and you threw yourself at him, sobbing loudly.
"I thought you left me!"
You cried.
"There there my crybaby witch, i told you I'll come back"
He pat your head and held you tightly.
"Did you find anything?"
You questioned.
"Yes"
And before you could ask anything he pulled you into a deep passionate kiss.
And then you remembered everything.
"It's you!"
Tears streaming down your beautiful eyes, you stared at him in pure shock. It was him! How could you forget? You hugged him as tight as you could and he hugged back, nearly crushing your bones.
"Yeah... I'm here now..."
He kissed your head.
You could feel a tension in his body.
"Are you okay?"
You cupped his cheeks.
"Better now."
He leaned in and snuggled face into your neck.
"Where are we?"
His voice was muffled as he spoke from within your neck. His hot breath tickling your skin.
"Your grave"
You blushed.
"So that's why i was shivering. You were petting my grave!!" He huffed and nibbled on your neck angrily.
You laughed and squirmed. Everything was okay now. Everything would be normal now that he was here. Just as always.
"I'm sorry!"
You sobbed.
"I thought you were done crying"
He held you close and lifted your face, hand holding your chin gently.
"I kept my promise didn't I?"
"Yes but you died because of me"
You sniffed. He sighed and sat down and sat you in his lap.
"That was my life and my own choices y.n. I don't regret anything and i would do it again"
He spoke. He sounded so serious and dominant. It made you blush and you nodded and leaned into his chest.
"Good girl" He petted your hair.
Your heart skipped a beat and you blushed. You were so submissive when it came to him, and he knew it damn well.
"I'd tease you more but you look like shit. You need rest."
He picked you up and too tired to complain you leaned into him, eyelids heavy with sleep.
"Sleep, doll. I'll be right here"
He rubbed your back and you were swallowed into the blank abyss of sleep immediately.
