Smirking darkly, I watched the mansion burn. "Bye bye", I said, waving slightly with a small giggle. I walked out and into the forest, keeping an ear out for anything that may try to attack me.
After a while, the sun started to rise and tiredness washed over me. That's when I noticed it. It was an old, abandoned mansion through the trees.
"Just my luck", I said, smirking slightly. I rushed out of the treeline and went inside.
The old mansion gave off a dark and empty aura, completely devoid of life. Perfect for me, I guess. I began walking around, trying to find anything that I could use. I went into the kitchen, finding a knife. It was beautiful, honing a golden handle with blood-red gems embedded into it. The blade itself was clean, looking freshly polished. I ran a finger over the blade, looking at my reflection in the blade's shiny surface. A reflection I used to hate, now something else.
With dark eyes and a cruel smirking, I held onto the blade and continued exploring. I found a few things and a few files. This mansion used to belong to the L/N family. They were apparently the Queen's secret assassins, known as the Queen's Foxes. I smirked slightly.
"The Queen had assassins at her beck and call? Gee, that isn't scary at all?", I said. They all went missing a few years back according to the files, killed on a mission that they couldn't handle. Some believe black magic was involved. The Queen's Foxes were a vicious line of trained assassins that the Queen had under her thumb for the longest time. They specialized in mischief and trickery, making them some of the deadliest assassins in the world. They were very skilled at manipulating others and at disguising themselves.
I smirked while reading the papers. "Maybe, just maybe, I've found my new identity", I said to myself, a plan coming to mind.

Twenty men walked up to the old, abandoned mansion. The one in the lead scowled at the old building.
"That message did say for us to come here, yes?", he questioned.
One of the others walked up to his side and handed him a letter with a blood-red and bright gold seal on it. The center of the seal brandished a sitting fox, it's tail wrapped around its paws. He flipped open the flap and pulled out the neatly written letter.
Dear Rat's Nest,
I know who you are and what you are capable of, and I wish to form an alliance of some sort. Don't worry, it'll be worth your while. I need a proper connection to the Underground and I believe you're on the market for an assassin, yes? Normally, I wouldn't bother with rats, but a fox needs her connections. Sorry for not using proper names, but I don't feel the need for it. Anyways, if you're interested in my offer, or the very least, want to negotiate, then please come to the address listed below. Thank you for reading this far and considering my offer. Of course if you don't want to negotiate or anything, I'm sure the Queen would love to hear all about the business that you've been conducting over the past few years. Well, I look forward to the meeting, Little Rat.
Signed,
Lady L/N
He checked the address. This was the place, but still, reading the leather again made him shiver. The weight of such an offhanded threat and the way it was written. Clearly this L/N person was no amateur, and yet she had the gall to call him a rat. He crushed the letter before tossing it aside. "I know I've already asked this, but does the name L/N sound familiar to anyone else?", one of the men asked. This caused everyone to break out into whispers and murmurs. Sharing rumors and theories.
"Shut up! It doesn't matter as of now. We're here to show this lady that she can't just threaten us and get away with it," the leader declared, marching into the mansion.
His men followed him like loyal dogs, unaware of what was about to happen. Once everyone was inside the main hall, the doors slammed shut behind them. "How idiotic", a female voice said. A few of the men tried to open the doors by pushing them open, but to no avail.
"Those doors only open one way," the voice continues. They all focused their eyes at the top of a staircase, where a girl stood. She wore a red dress with a golden ribbon tied around her waist. There was also a knife in her hand with a gold handle and red gems embedded into it. Her E/C eyes following every movement that they made.
"Umm... We are here to speak with Lady L/N," the leader stated. The girl walked down the stairs with a small smirk on her face. "You can call me Y/N y'know. Formalities aren't necessary with me currently. Welcome to the fox den, Little Rats," she said. "Wait, you were the one who sent the letter?", one of the men questioned. She smiled brightly, walking closer to the leader.
"Yes sir, that was me", she said. The leader scoffed with a smirk. "No way a little girl like you could write something like that", he said. "Oh?" she questioned, tilting her head to the side. She was right in front of the leader now, keeping her eyes on the ground. None of them paid any mind to the knife in her hand. If they had survived, maybe they would have.

"Heh, such fools," I said as blood dropped down my knife. Twenty bodies lay before me, a large pool of blood forming under the stab wounds. I twirled the knife in my hand, nearly dropping it.
"Guess I still need practice", I said, chuckling ever so slightly. The red colors that leaked from the bodies seemed beautiful in my opinion, but then a cold chill ran through the mansion. Then, all the lights flickered off.
"BLEEP, black out?", I questioned. "My, my, you've sure made a bloody mess of things", a smooth, male voice said. My gaze was drawn to the closed doors where a being, surrounded by red mist, now stood." I love the smell of red in the morning", it said.
That's how I met him, a demon known as Karma.
£~Karma~£
I was a mistake, never meant to be alive, nor conceived. I was just, there, created out of nowhere from the magic of two powerful beings. One of these beings, a demon. I was always more partial to my demon half, seeing as I grew up in Hell. Yet, no one liked me, they hated my existence.
I was a forbidden being, and yet I lived. Creatures and demons alike would come to try to kill me, and every time, I would kill them in return. This earned me the titles of Red Devil and Prince of Hell. One was because of my mischievous personality and love for the color red. The other was because I was the one who made Hell chaotic and full of anarchy, and Satan, did I find it funny stirring up chaos.
I would never let what others thought get to me. I was always just myself. I never changed to please someone. If anything, I loved annoying the BLEEP out of every demon I saw.
I had a few friends, but even they tend to be careful around me. The only one that was even close to not being scared of me was Nagisa, a snake demon called a Naga. He's the one who got the others to call me by the name 'Karma'. He and the others always thought that it fit and since I didn't have a given name like the rest, since no one every bothered to give me a proper name, I just stuck with it. It started to grow on me over time. Of course, I wasn't always that tame. I only let those close to me call me Karma, anyone else would find out why I was given the name in the first place.
Demons in Hell were terrified when I came around the corner. Even though I was hated, I was still respected for my power and intellect. Even though I'm not nearly as old as any other demon, what I lacked in age and wisdom, I more than made up for with my strength and strategic thinking. It was because of this that every demon would flee into the darker pits of Hell anytime I was pissed, and BLEEP did it piss me off that I couldn't reach them. I was always the one to bring chaos, but I held one of the highest positions in the underworld, another reason I was titled the Prince of Hell.
Don't go getting the wrong idea, I am in no way next in line to rule Hell. It's because I'm too young, a demon has to be at the very least one hundred to be the next ruler. I'm sixteen, very young for a demon. Never thought you'd see a sixteen-year-old demon, eh? As you can tell, I haven't been in this world very long, but the things I've managed to do in such little time only speaks volumes about my skill level.
Demons born of magic, like myself, aren't very common in demon culture. Most of the time, demons are born when humans lose their souls or are sent to Hell because of their sins. They gain their demonic forms after a few decades or so of being in the underworld. See, the thing is, down here, we aren't very judgmental. No matter the past of the human, if they wind up down here, they're welcomed. It isn't as bad as most would depict it to be, at least to us demons. Sure, we've got a few monsters and lots of fire, but is that really too bad? No, no, it isn't. Don't even answer that.
The underworld is a place where souls can recover from being broken, then they get reborn. Yet, we're depicted as the bad guys because we eat souls. News flash, we don't eat human souls often. It's mostly animal souls good majority of the time. The only way we can get our hands on human souls is if we demons form a contract with a human, and since most demons are afraid of going to the overworld or getting summoned, a good half the time, they never get to taste a human soul. The cycle of rebirth prevents us from eating them.
When we form contracts, that changes the entire playing field. By forming contracts, the humans we've been contracted to are marked, therefore, when their request or goal is accomplished or their time comes, their soul belongs to the demon they're contracted to. It breaks the cycle because the soul has been eaten by a demon instead of getting reborn or living with the damn angels.
I've never been contracted to a human before, but I've seen them. I find them I interesting to watch. While I've never tasted a human soul, I know what most of them are like. Being honest, I'd rather pass. Most human souls are either light or dark, sometimes half-and-half. Its always one of those three. Boring, unoriginal. While older demons that have been contracted debate over what kind of soul tastes better, I roll my eyes. It has no flavor, no spice, always the same, boring thing.
Demons can come from many different cultures. It depends on whom they were before they became a demon. I've always been more fond of demons coming from Japanese culture. They have some of the best stories and legends in my opinion. Of course, only one even talks to me. We call him Koro-sensei, or just Koro for short. Me, and the demons close to me, learn many things from him. The reason we add 'sensei' to his name is because he's our teacher. He knows a lot about every culture, and about history.
He's actually a demon born of magic, just like myself, a half demon half grim reaper. Odd combination? Yeah, kinda, but it makes him very powerful. He's not only quick, but with swift regeneration as well. Koro's fun to talk to and makes learning fun for the rest of us.
Other young demons come to learn from him, but Nagisa, Rio, Kayano, and I are the ones who show up the most. Koro was confused about why I would show up. He, too, had heard the rumors about me. Honestly, though, I was just as bad as the other demons would say. Yet, Nagisa, Rio, and Kayano all stuck up for me. They had all known me since I was little, even if they were a little wary when I was pissed. It made me kinda happy, and honestly, I was interested in learning about humans and their cultures. Koro taught me everything he knew, even 'after classes', seeing as I had a lot of questions. When the others went off to go do whatever they had played, I would stick around 'after class', as some would say, and ask more questions.
Koro always loved to point out that I was one of the more curious out of everyone else and that I was very knowledgeable for a demon when it came to human culture. I always told him that I just found it interesting. It was him who told me about other human souls. He taught me that sometimes there were souls that didn't fall under light or dark categories, nor stuck under the half-and-half category. At first, I didn't believe him. That is, until that day.
We were sitting in class, me stretching out my wings and knocking someone's head just to be annoying. All of a sudden, I felt weird, very weird. I let out a small groan before clutching me head.
"Karma, are you alright?", Nagisa asked, causing everyone else to focus on me. "I don't know. I feel weird", I responded. I flared my wings open again, suddenly very twitchy.
"Watch your wings BLEEP!", Terasaka hollered. " Oi, it ain't my fault I'm twitchy!", I hollered back, not in the mood for his BLEEP.
I groaned again, starting to glow. "What the BLEEP!", me and the others shouted. Koro-sensei smirked. "It appears our good friend, Karma over here, is getting summoned for the first time", he said. "Wait a minute, summoned! BLEEP no!", I shouted.
The others were confused while I was pacing around. "Why me, why me? I'm not ready for this. Why would I be summoned, of all demons?", I questioned. "How should we know? Stop your BLEEP whining and just got already. Satan knows it'll be a lot more peaceful once you're gone", Terasaka grumbled. I just BLEEPED him, getting scolded by Koro-sensei. He walked over and grabbed my shoulder.
"Relax Karma. I assure you, it'll be fine. You'll be back before you know it", he said, giving me a warm smile. "But-". " No buts. You'll do fine. Besides, you may end up getting along with the human. Typically, the first time, you end up with as master or mistress, you get along fine", he said. I mumbled something under my breath, avoiding eye contact, before nodding.
"Fine", I grumbled. The glowing grew brighter as I stopped resisting the summons. "Bye Karma!", Nagisa called. "Don't forget to hide your true form!", Koro called after me. I nodded, and before I knew it, I blacked out momentarily.
When my eyes snapped open, I was by the door of a mansion. The mansion looked old and worn down, but I was able to detect the reek of blood on the other side of the door. I shrouded my self in red mist and walked in. The moment I did, the lights flickered off and a cold wind blew through.
"BLEEP, black out?", a female with H/C hair and E/C eyes said. She was standing with a bloody knife in her hand, wearing a red dress with a gold ribbon tied around it. She was also wearing a red ruby pendant that complemented her dress.
As much my gaze wandered the scene, I was quickly able to figure out what happened and smirked to myself. 'So this one human girl, only about sixteen herself, if I had to guess, took down twenty grown men? Talk about impressive', I thought.
"My, my, you've sure made a bloody mess of things", I said, my voice slightly distorted. Her gaze wandered to me. "I love the smell of red in the morning", I said with a sigh in my voice.
That's how I met her. My contractor, a human girl names Y/N.
Alright people, for those who read the original, if you have not heard, Flame has lost inspiration for this story. She has personally asked me to adopt it, and as you can see, I agreed. I will try not to do authors notes every chapter. Also, because of unavailability, I will mostly be following the manga version. I've heard that the anime is better than the manga, but I don't have access to the anime. I hope this detail won't change the quality for you readers. I will be open for suggestions as to what you would like to see happen in this book, either PM me or state in comments. Anyways that's all and may you light shine bright and shadows grow darker. Shadow out!
