Charles Smith- Life saver
Racing through the field, you kept looking back. You couldn't see anything but you knew they were there. In your hand you held a stolen pistol. Not too long ago, you had broken out of a wagon escorting prisoners. In desperate need of shelter and help, the Lemoyne Raiders offered you a place but it came at a price, a price you weren't willing to pay. Now, they were chasing you through the fields of Lemoyne.
Sweat was dripping from your brow as you slowed, beginning to sneak through the fields. Your head spun as you turned on your heel. The silence wasn't comforting as you stood, your vision partially blocked by the corn crops. There was a large breeze which swept the crops to one side, allowing you to see a scruffy, small, dirty man with a smirk plastered on his face.
Without thinking, he ran at you. He was holding a stone hatchet which his tried throwing at you. Immediately, you took off running but you could hear him catching up. Suddenly, you were tackled to the ground and he was on top of you, wrestling with you. "Stay still you bitch!" He grumbled as he tried his best to pin you to the dry ground. "Guys, I got her--" His body went limp and he fell sideways, off you.
Scrambling to a sitting position a man with long hair, part of it tied back and a blue, large shirt ran over to you. "Are you okay?" He asked quietly as you breathed heavily. You nodded, hearing more shouts.
"Come with me!" He whispered, leading you away from the shouts and over to the treeline where there was a horse. He climbed onto it, but then there were more shouts, causing you to turn back. "Come on!" He urged.
You sighed and clambered onto the back. Following strangers had gotten you into this mess, but if you didn't, they would kill you. The man kicked his horse gently and soon it trotted along. As you got a safe distance away, you thought it appropriate to ask him his name. "What's your name?" You asked.
"Charles" He replied simply.
You nodded, "Thank you, Charles"
He shook his head, "No problem, why were you with them, anyway?"
"I just broke out of prison, needed shelter, food..They were the first people I came across, I knew they was bad, but, I was desperate" You explained, your arms around his torso.
He looked over his shoulder at you, "Why were you in prison?"
You sighed, "They wanted me to swing, deciding on a date they said. I think they was gonna work me to death but I can't be too sure, I murdered my daddy, but, there was a reason.."
He nodded, "There always is"
"He shot my brother in cold blood, he was gonna shoot me too but, the law didn't see it that way, they said I shot em' both, I'm not the killing type but..I had to, mister, I had to"
He nodded again, "I understand, I have a gang, we can offer you shelter if you need it, you won't be judged or made to do anything you don't like"
"I--I'm unsure, going with a gang got me into this mess I-I, I don't know.." Your trust was damaged.
"I can drop you off in the nearest town?" He suggested.
You nodded, "That would be good, thank you"
After a short ride, you stopped in Rhodes. It was a quiet, dusty town but no one knew you there and so it was perfect. You hopped down off the horse and smiled up at Charles. "Thank you, you saved me, I hope someday we meet again under better circumstances" You smiled.
Charles nodded and routed through his bag before he handed you some money. "There's about $500 there, keep it safe and keep yourself safe, until we meet again, miss...-"
"Y/N, call me Y/N,"
"Until we meet again, Y/N" He smiled and rode off quickly. You watched as the dust followed him.
You hoped you would meet again, but this time under better conditions..
