Hi, please tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to know about Wattpad.

Hi, I’m Dee and so honored to be in the winner’s circle. A relative who used me for editing told me about Wattpad. As the height of the pandemic had started, I figured I’d try my hand at writing.

What inspired the idea for your book?

I picked a random prompt from the ONC 2021 choices and just started typing. 

What does the title of your book mean? How does it relate to the story?

The title relates to depriving others of life. It relates to the story as the right to exist is either approved or denied based on the decisions of a government bureaucracy.

Is your main character someone you would get along with? Give your reason(s)

My main character, Jared Johnson, is someone I could become best buds with! He believes in a flawed concept and when it’s proven wrong, he can admit it and adjust. People who can acknowledge and regroup are a special kind of wonderful. Jared is strong and loving, a dedicated family man.

If you had the decision to rewrite any of your books, which one would it be and why?

I guess I’d try to rewrite my first book, The Clearing. I’m proud it made the Watty shortlist, but it’s a book that is either deeply loved, or scorned. I guess I’d try to find a happy medium.

What book genre is your favorite? Why?

I love fantasy as it offers an escape from the real world.

If you were to write a spin-off about a side character, which would you pick?

It would probably be Coyo from Existence Denied. I love the ‘godfather’ aspect of the man.

Have you ever tried to write a novel for a genre you rarely or never read?

Yep, turned out Existence Denied is Science Fiction. I was shocked and I wrote it! LOL!

Do you have any unpublished books or drafts on Wattpad? If yes, why haven't you published it? If no, does it mean you don't plan on writing any books again?

I have an unpublished spin-off from Clearing, a genie who won’t conform to the rules of her people. I haven’t published it because of, well, fear.

Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers?

I was asked by quite a few people who liked The Clearing for a sequel. If I get my nerve up, I might publish it as it’s almost done.
