Reality

The book was hypnotizing. It was simply magnificent. Breath-taking. Amazing. Rainbow colors burst every five minutes and a sparkly golden light glowed like treasure. But.

There was a story written in a loopy handwriting. I read only one word, "The" in calligraphy and tried to read but the words seemed to jump out. Instead, the book flashed once more and flew into the air with wings? It sparkled and bounced on the couch. I propped my elbow on my legs and waited for the book to stop.

The book popped out a face on the words. It had googly eyes with red paper cut crudely as lips. I had a small flashback. It couldn't be the same book I saw four years ago!

The book smiled widely which caused its lips to tear apart to reveal a hollow mouth with inked words inside. Suddenly, my hands were on the corners of the book and I forced it to rest upon me because the book was levitating. But the book resisted so much, that I heard a word.

"Sputtering little woman. Trying to keep me in control. Oh I should have known it was you trying to irritate me!" yelled the flamboyant book.

Its plastic black pupils narrowed on me and I stared back. Then a whole jumble of words blurted out of its paper mouth.

"Hey I am a girl too. Oh, this is the girl I have been waiting for thousand years or is it someone else. But anyways thanks for letting me free to the world by annoying me! It was a curse that I might never awaken my talking self but here I am. So, did you know I have not tried human food for about ten thousand years or wore new clothing?....Or what about the fact you look exactly like the princess I have been waiting for? Is your name Angela?.... Because you look like an angel. Does that sound funny to you? Why do you look bemused?"

This is a dream I'm having. It cannot be true.

"Do you hear me young lady? Wait till I-"

Oddly, the book became quiet.

Knock. Knock knock.

I jumped out of my seat and awaited for the visitor to say his/her name.

No answer.

"Who is it?" I hollered.

"I know exactly who this person is. Do you want me to talk to him?" asked the book with a sly smile. The book inched closer and said "It is your brother."

Now I knew one thing for sure - the book doesn't my life.

"No thanks, I will check the door myself," I whispered and walked to my bedroom door.

As quiet as a mouse, I peered through the hole of my door. I saw nothing except a flash of silver.

"Well its no one," I murmured to the book who stole my spot on the couch.

"Why aren't you freaking out yet? I am supposed to be cursed so I scare everyone I see. And this is freaking annoying because you aren't screaming in horror about a flying book." the book chattered randomly.

I stared at the small book with a headache rising. I get so impatient sometimes even my parents warned me about it. I gracefully sat next to the book without making her fall.

"Is there a reason you came here? Or is it to just confuse and disturb me?" I blurted out.

Her googly eyes swirled upwards to look at me. They were evenly spaced out, making her look more of a toy than a book.

"Um........I.....maybe.....I know that I might be annoying....but I have to deliver a letter.....and...I...got..to hand it over. It ............... is important,...or I think I mean ...my..master...he did not specify what's in the lett-.." she stuttered.

"How about you hand the letter? What's so important? I don't understand life." I said miserably.

"Okay I got to tell you the story first. You, my friend, are not a princess.... It was a mistake. The real princess is Sara which I got no clue who she could be. A man named ....Tracis?.. oh he is your brother. You have a mystical background because your mother was an evil witch and converted to a good witch. She was a strong lady, but unfortunately died by a magical accident which I can explain later. Your father was definitely evil and I am not absolutely sure he is dead. " the book said in a flowing manner.

"Nothing makes sense to you because you and Sara were not born. The Queen's surgeon was a robber and a real smart one. She knew that Sara had so much power which could turn her into a greedy lady. Sara was cursed if I forgot to mention. She had the curse of the inability to love by your father ahead of time. Your father cursed the Queen's daughter and that was a mighty curse. The curse could turn her so bitter and cold that she would end up dead. The robber was the queen's surgeon and your mother's best friend. She switched both of you because she knew Sara would be safe" she said.

Now my brain pounded like a drum with babies screaming in the background.

 My life is ruined.

"You are a great liar." I responded slowly.

"Hahahahahaha, I knew you would act like this. But I warned you ahead of time. I know your fate even if you don't listen." the book replied with a mischievous grin.

"I may look like an unique book you randomly found, but I was a real person." she sighed. I leaned closer in anticipation.

"I am yo-"

I shrieked as I heard knocks on the door again.

Pissed now, I rose from the couch and swung the door open, expecting nothing.

But my life is always full of surprises. And I felt the brunt of a person ramming into me. I was too astonished, too surprised, too slow to react.

Whatever the thing was, I felt a sharp tip touch my stomach which stung, even though I was wearing a thick woolen dress. I looked up at the owner. It was Travis.

I had no power to fight back. I had to stare back. Maybe it was part of my vivid imagination, but the knife was gone and Travis was just beside the door, nowhere near me in matter of seconds. Gone.

I blinked rapidly, trying to comprehend what just happened. Travis now was awkwardly standing there again. He was shifting weight on one foot and the other.

He is my brother.

I barely knew what to say and he stared back. He suddenly opened his mouth and shut it like a fish.

"Travis,....what are you doing here?" I asked breaking the silence barrier.

"Uh-I just found out something important... it was something I had a really bright dre-"

"Okay I get it. You had a dream. Now what is it about." I asked impatiently.

I was exhausted from all the lies and mysteries and now people are going to waste more time. I was a pinch away from finding out what the book's true identity and getting the letter about my life but now it was gone like a slip of my hands.

"I am your brother." he spoke quickly.
