_________Angela____________

---------------------------------------------

Several months after the incident with Prince Brandon, I was dreading February. My birthday was in two days. But Prince Brandon and my parents seemed fond of it and it was spooking me. The more they said the words- 'Angela's birthday' made me fear the day. And the day came.

"Your highness, are you feeling quite alright?" asked Mary. "You look ill. But today's your fifteenth birthday. You have to go face the public. How are you feeling?"

"Mary, I am alright." I replied quietly.

In a few minutes, I was going through the hall with a white dress. My mother eyed me and looked disgusted. For the past months, she seemed afraid of me but she was awaiting today.

Today, I would step in the balcony and wave at my little people. I would say a small speech like every other birthday. Since I turned a teen, I would have to invite everyone to a ball. And at the ball, all of the closest friends of the birthday person, would dance with.

Unfortunately, it included Brandon. And Dad. And Mom. After that, I would dance with anyone I wanted.

I had no one for those months. No one to talk to. No one I could trust. Because everyone avoided the princess.

Well, I am exaggerating because the whole castle did not know the incident except my parents and Brandon. And they were the closest people I trusted and now they were the opposite. I dreaded even saying a polite greeting.

"Angela, are you going to stare at the floor or follow me?" asked my mother's irriated voice. Silently, I walked to the balcony.

My father was fussing over his outfit. It was rare to see him, but he was always serious and cheerful. King Alexander. He had a contagious smile. Even if he didn't trust me, he was a bit hyper when he met his people.

We all joined hands and walked into the balcony.

Thousands of people surrounded the border of the fence. For a moment, they all had a hypnotized/astonished look in their faces as they stared at us. Then they started whooping like hyneas. Some yelled while the others regained composture and started clapping politely. My father slowly raised his hand.

"People of Lily, we are here to celebrate a great joyous occasion. Today, February twelfth, is Princess Angela, my daughter's fifteenth birthday. She will be delievering a speech showing us how proud she is to be princess of Lily." my father spoke boldly.

"But first please join us as we all sing her happy birthday."

"Happy Birthday to you.

Happy Birthday to you.

Happy Birthday dear Princess Angela!

Happy Birthday to you."

People were swaying together as if they were singing a lullaby to soothe me. Their voices echoed loudly and calmly. Some people had their eyes closed and others were staring at me.

My face heated up like it always did every birthday.

There was a smattering of applause and he raised his hand again.

Now it was my turn to stumble the words out.

Suddenly my dress felt irresistible itchy.

"Er,...um..People of Lily, I am honored to be your princess. I am very happy.. to see you wish me happy birthday. Thank you people of Lily, Thank you. You all are very sweet. I send you my warmest regards, your Princess Angela."

The loud clapping begun again and it was starting to make me deaf. Suddenly I noticed my mother nudge my father and direct her eyes at a person. I followed her gaze to see the girl that matched the description of what Brandon said months ago.

She was smiling with the crowd and laughing with another guy with dark hair and eyes. I could only stare in horror.

Prince Brandon and the rest of the castle members were below the balcony. I saw Brandon dart his eyes with my mother and at the girl. My head throbbed and my heart quickened.

"Thank you. Now you all may be dismissed." he said distractedly.

We heroically left and my mother quickly rushed to the closest window. Meanwhile I rushed to my room because I had the best view.

Brandon was rushing to her and spoke something to her. She hastily nodded and she said something. Then Brandon smiled flirtatiously and my heart for a second clenched, but she took no notice and left with the dark haired boy.

I was angry and pissed. The door creaked open and I almost jumped as Mary came in. All my anger dissipated.

"You don't look much better." she murmured. Her soothing hands took me out of the itchy gown.

"Your highness, since the ball starts in one hour I-"

"Mary, the ball starts in one hour? Since when did this happen?" I asked incredulously.

"Oh, just after your speech, everyone got a special message from Brandon that the ball begins at five." she said lightly.

"I have the perfect dress for you." she said happily.

I felt giddy. The ball was supposed to be held at six like every year. Now I was starting to fret. I was going to dance with my parents and Brandon in one hour.

"Your highness, are you alright? You are so pale." she said.

"No, I am alright. I confess I am a bit nervous." I said numbly.

"Oh but do not worry. It will be beautiful like all your other birthdays and you will dance with your loved ones. Relax." she said, placing her hand on mine.

It took all my strength not to yell at her.

"Okay, I feel much better." I said dazedly. "Just get me ready and I will be fine."

Mary smiled and said, "You can do anything if you believe in yourself."
