I was standing next to Travis, staring mutely at the sight on the eerie mirror.
It was the famous 'Mirror of Memories' and the name even sounded grand.
I gulped and reached for Travis's reassuring hand. He held me back.
The mirror was my mother and she swirled around as I watched.
_______Flashback_________
"What are we going to do?" I whispered.
The gory sight of my mother was slouched on the table right in front of me. Her arms were unnaturally a tinge of blue. Her veins were bright blue.
I looked away and studied the wine glass pieces. The cup part was smashed into bits and the needle was even worse. All of it was broken and the blood around it was making it more gruesome than the situation really was.
"I-How about we go to your house? You can pick up your stuff and you could live with my family..." he replied.
His answer seemed to echo. It was like the room was ringing. I winced again as I saw Travis walk to my mother. He lifted her with two arms. I rushed to him and held her. At least, she didn't need to be seen in blood.
The people outside seemed to not to notice. They walked away from our paths. Only a small child, who was about four or five stared at us with startling green eyes and startling red straight hair. She had freckles and a cute pink outfit.
"What happened? Who is she?" she asked pointing at my mother.
"She is very ill and we are taking her home." Travis responded a little too sharply.
But the girl didn't even flinch. She simply stared at us like we were aliens she never seen. I didn't like it at all.
We proceeded to my home and the girl started to follow. This started a match to my anger.
Then I abruptly stopped and turned to the girl.
"What do you want?" I asked rudely.
"I want to see why you have a huge diamond on your lady." she said seriously.
I looked at my mother's pocket and saw something sparkling?
I took it out and it was a huge diamond. I sighed. The day was getting scarier and scarier.
Travis was staring at it with shock. His mouth was an O shape.
"Uh, she is paying us." I lied.
I am a terrible liar.
The girl smirked and turned away, tapping away on shiny ruby red shoes.
They glittered and my eyes started to hurt. I noticed Travis beginning to follow the child. Quickly, I grabbed him and my mother as we turned to entrance of my house.
"Why you following her?" I hissed as we entered.
I put my mother on the couch and sat at the little table.
"Um, her shoes-s seemed hypnotizing." he confessed.
My eyebrows went up.
"So shoes interest you." I asked.
"No, it just attracted me." he said while sitting next to me.
"I am getting a shovel for her." I said pointing to my mother .
"Care to join? or will you follow a random stranger's shoes?"
His mouth loosened and he smiled.
"Don't worry I won't, unless you are jealous." he smirked.
"Uh, no, my shoes are brand new and black. I have been preparing for this day. I have never been outside and the day I do, my only parent dies." I said in a snarl.
"Hmm, how about we go get the shovel." he said ignoring my exaggerated comment.
After shoveling and burying, I sat there crying on the grave, remembering her eyes, her hair, her smile, my mother, my dear mother.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Here is your room." he said, pointing at the room right across his. It was painted a faint orange and had a cool wooden dresser.
"That's ......that is my room? It'a so pretty and awesome,.... I meant pretty awesome. But who owned this room?" I asked in shock.
He smiled genuinely.
"My sister was going to live here, but she died." he said sadly. "No one lives here except me."
"Oh, I never knew,.,, I am sorry, Travis." I said sympathetically.
"But everyone says that." he moaned. "I would do anything to bring her alive."
"Yeah, I would do that too, if I had one." I said.
"WAIT, OH my goodness, I almost forgot!
It's Princess Angela's fifteenth birthday!"
"Yeah, we know tha-" he replied casually.
"Yes, but Prince Brandon invited us!! He, personally invited us without a payment! Don't you think we should go tonight?" I cried.
"Oh, yeah I forgot." he muttered.
"But,-" I stopped mid sentence.
No one was going to help me dress and tell me if I looked good. No one was going to buy me things and smile at me. No one will pet my hair or tell me to behave myself. No one will kiss me goodnight and cook food. No one could be my mother.
What was I thinking.
"I don't have any clothes for you." he said sheepishly. "I didn't know you were going to stay today. It was all a coincidence that I even met you."
"No, I have clothes and I don't need to stay. I have a home and I will live there alone if you want. And forget about going to the ball. I don't want to go anymore." I said deflated.
He was speechless.
"Uhhh, you just were buzzing for the ball and now you are the complete opposite. What happened?" he asked curiously.
His dark brown eyes seemed to make my heart racing as they bored in mine.
"I-I am ffine." I said uneasily.
"Your fine? You don't look that fine. Since you are lying, we are going to the ball." he said with a smirk.
"No," I replied defiantly.
"Yes." he said.
"No"
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"I said no and that's final." I growled.
"I said yes and that's final." he replied with the same intensity.
I pouted. He smiled and left to his room.
"Fine," I called out.
I heard a little laughter escape from the hall.
This guy can drive me nuts.

After the dance with Travis, I felt like falling.
He was so graceful and beautiful and I looked like a big potato with stubby legs.
He twirled me and my short legs nearly tangled, but fortunately he caught me.
He smiled pleasantly throughout the whole dance while I constantly was aware of my legs.
Then, I saw Prince Brandon and Princess Angela dancing like tornadoes.
They both elegantly rocked their bodies and when Princess Angela spun, all the guys swooned and the girls casted jealous looks.
They looked so carefree while I was the short stubby legged person trying not to fall on my pretty dress.
I tried not to laugh as Travis held my arm.
He was not really tickling me but it was making me feel ticklish.
"Why you smiling like that?" Travis asked with a brilliant smile.
His hands slid to my shoulder.
"Nothing." I said trying to stifle my laugh.
"Why are you lying again? Am I troubling you somehow?" he asked as his hands let go and his frown deepened.
"Oh, no. No, it's nothing with you. It's just you... are..." I smiled hesitantly.
His arms engulfed me and his hands reached my bare shoulder.
"I am....." he asked impatiently.
"Tickling me!" I shouted and laughed.
"Ha hahhahahaha ha.....ha, stop it!" I yelled. "It isn't funny, you have been ticking my shoulder, hahhaha!"
His smile widened as he held me tight. Then his hands started to tickle my arm.
My laughter turned silent and I could hardly breathe.
"Noooo....Okay, I will do anything, hahaha......" I squealed.
"Anything," his smirk returned.
His eyes were black as a night sky.
"What is the real reason you didn't want to go?" he asked amusedly.
I gulped. Bad question.
"I.. I don't have her..." I said simply.
At first his face was taut with tense lines and then his features loosened and he nodded.
Unfortunately, my stubby legs had to tangle and I fell to the floor.
Travis chivalrously helped me up as the guests stared at us.

"Are you sure you want to know?" the queen asked while staring at the mirror.
"Yes, I would like to know your majesty." Travis said, nodding his head.
The queen sighed.
"Touch the mirror with a clear mind."
she said in monotone.
Travis touched the mirror and his eyes were shut.
The mirror swirled and it showed one lady as his mother- who looked strangely familiar and a younger looking girl. The younger girl was sleeping next to my mother and Travis.
The mirror stopped and it was a black void.
The queen curiously stared at Travis and me.
Travis opened his eyes.
All he said was,
"Thank you."
His eyes wore a sign of deep melancholy. His face was frozen.
But the look was stored away and locked in his heart.
It was gone the loneliness and sadness. Instead, replaced, was bossiness and happiness.
Then he smiled but tears were falling.
