Compliance

Today seemed brighter than yesterday. No thoughts protruded her. Could she dare to smile? She did. She smiled anyway. Pink lips stretching across teeth. Rustled hair tossed over to one side of her head. Aching arms stretched upward, toes flexing. It was a morning that contained only the dulcet tones of soft wind. Her mouth widened to let out an airy yawn, tears prickling from the strain of muscles. Pale skin marred from the evidence of sleep, the sweet sweet release of sleep. She flipped onto the embrace of her comforter, a material that warmed her during cold days in Korea. The fabric flooded through her fingers. So soft. An odd feeling of pure anticipation ricocheted throughout her body. She felt anxious for an unusually positive reason. Something must be happening today to receive such a nice feeling. The world was upping its state of change on her. She smirked a bit. The sun bled through her curtains painting the woman in lights of gold. The day was so lovely. She stopped herself. She didn't belong in this atmosphere. If it didn't rain, she didn't belong. But maybe this was the state of change. Regardless, it felt nice. Comforting & promising. Nothing in this world belonged to her. Not these feelings or this body. Those were God's. She rose & lightly stood on the cold wood of her floor. A shiver tracing her skin as she walked to the bathroom, examining herself & debating about taking a shower. She decided it would be best since a day this lovely came scarcely. Stripping herself of only sleep shorts & a shirt, her bare skin made contact with the cold air. Today felt like a lukewarm shower kind of day. She bathed herself in that water. Scrubbing away at her hair that always seemed to be disheveled. The shower seemed to mimic rain to her. A diluted version of her therapy. Thoughts of only the day echoed throughout her mind. Drying off from the short shower, she dressed herself according to her phone's weather report. It was to be chilly, an indication that fall was definitely here. Fall was her favorite season. It signified change. It was gorgeous too, the leaves of different colors & the bright vegetables of the season sprouting. The air was edgy with cold & the sky was grey. Tossing a long scarf, trench coat & turtleneck sweater on with her usual jeans & boots, she grabbed her belongings & headed to a nearby coffee shop on this lovely Saturday. The air reeked of coffee beans & cream. A place like this gave her headaches if she stayed too long. Strong artificial smells usually gave her headaches after a few hours. "A large coffee with two shots of sugar & cream, please." The coffee was politely placed into her hands soon after she had ordered it. Her name sketched across the tag. She lifted the lid & took an inhale of the drink. It smelled like pumpkin & cinnamon. Her favorite. Cursing herself for being so basic & generic with her coffee tastes, she felt her phone vibrate harshly from within her pocket. Nobody texts her this early. Lifting her phone from her purse, an unknown number etched across her screen. Can you see this? She felt her heart speed up. ? Was all she responded with. A blocked number texting her out of the blue at 9 in the morning was definitely not a part of her routine. Thank goodness. It's not everyday you get a text from a stranger. This person knows that she doesn't know him? From her previous encounters with unknown texts, they were usually people who thought they had the right number. This person must be out for something. Her fingers typed rapidly, desperate to find a reason why she was targeted. The person found this phone, wanting to return it to the owner. But why? Just take it to the police! Soon after, an address was sent to her to go to. She sighed. She had no plans today anyway. Taking her now lukewarm coffee, she headed hesitantly towards said location. The building felt so nostalgic. Had she been here before? She thought not, but it felt all too familiar. Perhaps she had visited this place frequently in another life. She looked forward & sighed.
