Violet (part 2)

Enrico walked into his room with his heart racing so fast. His panting grew louder. His blood pumped within his ears. He felt so angry, yet he couldn't do anything. Absolutely nothing. His aunt just had a knack for making everything go her way all the time. She really couldn't let this one go for just one time. He really didn't want to do this. He really didn't want to go on dates or, better yet, make Cecile fall for him. He had his own way of doing things. He felt so stuffed up. Rage filled him and he knew it wouldn't die down quite easily, so he made a decision on what to do to let off some steam.

Kiana turned her head away from the counter she was wiping and that was when she caught sight of Enrico getting off the last staircase and then walking off towards the direction of the room in which he exercises. He had changed into something different than what he wore earlier. He spared her no glance this time as well. As he disappeared out of sight, Kiana thought as to why he resembled someone venturing into war.

She sighed once more hoping he was actually okay.

A few hours later, Kiana was done making dinner. Apparently, earlier, they had slept through lunch time and were unable to have one. She wiped her hands on the hand towel before taking a look at the time on her mobile phone. It was a few minutes past six in the evening and as she looked away from the screen, she sighed.

Enrico hadn't stepped out of that room since he went in. It made her wonder how many hours it took him to exercise. She also recalled the fact that he hasn't eaten anything all day long, so there was a possibility that he exercised on an empty stomach. Any ordinary person would know that wasn't healthy. Eventually, Kiana decided she would wait till he walked out of that room.

An hour later, she stealthily paced to and fro in front of the counter, unable to stay at a place. Her eyes remained on the corner he had disappeared into.

Not even a sound.

Kiana wondered. She hadn't heard even the slightest sound possible. It made her wonder if he truly was okay at all. Perhaps, he might be injured or even worse, unconscious. She thought hard and thorough on what she needed to do.

Enrico lay on the bare floor flat on his back while his panting was at its peak. He had to do it as he was almost running out of breath. As he stared at the ceiling, he felt a little light headed for a second, but then, became okay. Perhaps, this was what he wanted, to punish himself in a form of workout till there was no strength left anymore within him. The fact that he couldn't state his mind vexed him and that was his punishment.

He shut his eyes for a moment, then opened them once more but what he saw wasn't the least bit what he expected.

Kiana stared down at him. Her face overshadowed his. He stared back at her for what seemed like forever before she spoke up to break the silence.

"Dinner is ready." She told him, but he remained still for a second before looking away from her and getting up to his feet.

"I'm not hungry." He remarked, without taking a look at her as he began to put on his boxing gloves with his back faced to hers.

"You're not hungry? I'm pretty sure you haven't eaten anything all day and for hours, you've been cooped up in here..."

"What exactly do you want to happen!?" Enrico asked out of the blue, interrupting her comments and standing in front of her. His words had taken her by surprise including how fast he had walked up to her. Almost in a flash.

The look in his eyes was different. Different from what she had seen hours ago. This time, it was filled with anger, frustration and contempt. Kiana wondered what happened to make him different all of a sudden.

"For us to act like everything is okay between us!? For me to act like nine years ago, you hadn't treated me like shit!? You walked away without offering a single explanation! Am I being childish recollecting these memories!? Yes! Perhaps, I am, but at least don't act like you care about me! You never did in the past and it's definitely not about to start now, so it would be best you stick to your life and I stick to mine!" Enrico proclaimed without thinking twice and all Kiana did was stare at him with eyes widened, a little surprise at this unexpected outburst.

Enrico took a step closer to her and as much as she wanted to take a step backward at the need of saving herself from him, she felt glued to the spot. His brows were deeply furrowed and the look in his eyes was filled with bitterness. Bitterness for her. Hatred for just her. He stared down at her.

"From now on... let's be strictly professional. You mind your business and I'll do the same. You work as my maid, right? Tomorrow, you'll get your uniform." He told her and with that, he took off the boxing gloves and threw them to the floor, before walking past her and towards the door out of the room.

She startled a bit as she heard the door slam behind her. Her lips quivered for a moment as her eyes grew teary. She blinked several times in an attempt to retain the sob that had accumulated overtime during his horrible speech to her. Eventually, the tears trickled down her cheeks as his words had somehow managed to affect her.

Perhaps, she deserved all of it. Enrico was right. What was she thinking trying to act like everything was okay between the two of them? It had never been okay since they met once again. It has just been two adults trying to pretend like the past doesn't exist anymore and to actually act in the limelight of the present. It shouldn't have been so. The past will always affect the present and the future. Always. Absolutely nothing can be done about that. Perhaps, his outburst was for the best. Finally, she was brought back to her senses.

Enrico sat up on his bed by the next morning. His eyes felt heavy. He barely slept all night. Several thoughts were going on in his mind which kept him from sleeping on time or having a good rest. Pushing every other thought aside, he got off the bed. He flinched a bit as his shoulders slightly hurt. In general, his body felt a little worn out definitely from having exercised for too long yesterday. He exceeded his boundaries and the pain was the repercussion.

From now on... let's be strictly professional.

He recalled the exact words he had used on Kiana. Yes, he had lashed out on her, but who in his situation wouldn't? He recalled so much that very evening. He felt all the anger at once and then there she was, bothering him, so he said what he had held in since fate brought them together for the second time. Perhaps, he might or might not have done the right thing but the deed was already done. That way, he was back to his own reality. The reality of where he is Enrico Vos, CEO of EDOARDO VINEYARDS and not Tyler Vos, an ordinary person.

He let out a loud sigh.

Great. I'll just stick with this.

He gave in; that way, he wouldn't lose focus.

Enrico got down the last staircase, quite dressed for work. He stood for a second as his eyes scanned everywhere. There was no sign of Kiana. He slightly furrowed his brows. It was unlike her to wake up late. He walked up to her door and was at the verge of placing a knock when he froze on his action. He recalled the last thing that transpired between them, then felt it would be better he walk away and let her do as she pleases.

As he approached the kitchen, he noticed a tray on the counter and within it lay a covered up dish, as well as a cup of orange juice. Beside it lay a white paper. He picked up the note as his brows furrowed.

Sorry, I left without letting you know. I made breakfast. I hope you have it.

Afterwards, Enrico looked away from the note. He remained with no expression on his face for a moment before he uncovered the food she made. Pancakes. She made pancakes for breakfast. Unexpectedly, his stomach growled. He really hadn't eaten anything the previous day. He definitely needed this breakfast.

As he had his breakfast, he thought about the fact Kiana seemed to have taken everything lightly. Was she really unaffected by his words?

Kiana coughed a little as she busied herself trying to have a few papers photocopied using the photocopying machine. She barely spared her surroundings a glance.

Enrico stopped when he was in front of Kiana's desk. Her seat was empty but the state of her desk told him she was definitely present within the building. The sound of her coughing made him look away from her desk and unto the direction of the sound of her voice. Finally, he caught sight of her beside the photocopying machine busy with a few papers in her hands. She coughed some more and in the process, covered her mouth with her hand. His brows slightly furrowed as he stared at her.

"Good morning, Mr. Vos." An employee greeted as he walked past Enrico. Enrico responded with a single nod as he looked away from Kiana and unto the employee that walked past him. By the time he shifted his eyes back to Kiana, she was staring back at him. Apparently, the greeting of that employee had caught her attention.

They stood still almost halfway across the office staring at each other and not even the people walking here and there distracted them. At the moment, all they could see was each other.
