Marigold (part 2)

"You never truly loved me in the past and just like then... you don't love me now. You just... pity me, so, Enrico Vos, let's end things for real... I really hope I never see you again... Goodbye." She ended and quickly walked away before something else would stop her from doing the right thing.

For a very strange reason, Enrico stood like a statue and watched the love of his life walk away.

"Foolish girl. I do love you." He stated in a whisper as he watched her go, while the tears slowly gathered in his eyes and he tried hard to contain them.

After walking a great distance away from him while she silently sobbed, Kiana finally found a public chair and had her seat. She sobbed some more while her insides felt like it was turning inside out. Her heart ached terribly and she had to place a hand there, as if to contain the pain. She had been such an idiot thinking for a while that the phrase 'happily ever after' might also be for her. Finally, her eyes were cleared and she was going to let the past be and move onto something better and different in the future. She was going to forget the fact that Enrico Vos ever existed in her life. In that moment, all their memories together in the past few weeks flashed across her mind, causing her to sob more.

Thereafter, she sniffed and tried to control her tears, began getting her phone out of her handbag and searching for a number from her contact list. She brought the phone close to her ear.

"Hello, Macy." She called, her voice a little shaky even to her own hearing.

"Kiana?" Macy's voice came through.

"The friend I told you about has finally made a decision... She'll take the shack."

Enrico stepped out of his office then walked up to an employee. He gave a few orders, then handed the folder to him before turning away. On his way back to his office, he suddenly stopped and shifted his eyes to the desk and chair, which used to be occupied by Kiana. Her stuff was gone and nothing about her lingered around it. It made him recall the very next day after their last talk together when he received a resignation letter sent from her. She hadn't shown up in person and it hurt to know that she truly didn't want to see him.

Later that day, he walked into his home. Everything was in its usual place. Nothing seemed disorganised or out of place. It reminded him of her once more and as he stared at the kitchen, he could imagine her standing right behind the counter trying to cook up something for him to eat. He looked away and eventually made his way towards her room. He gently turned the knob then pushed the door open to reveal a room nearly empty. He walked over to the wardrobe and pulled it to open. Her clothes were gone, as well as her bags. He went ahead to check the bathroom for any sign of her properties, but got nothing.

Finally, he slumped on the bed and it dawned on him that she was truly serious about ending everything with him. He shut his eyes as he rested his elbows on his knees, then buried his head in the palm of his hands.

He had lost her once again. Perhaps, they weren't meant to be together after all.

"It's nice to know that woman is gone from our lives once and for all." Giulia stated as she looked from Sofia, seated on the opposite end, onto Enrico, who sat behind his desk, eyes pretentiously buried within the work in front of him. He barely paid them any attention.

Sofia's eyes sat on him and after a while of silence, she spoke up.

"I suppose the marriage idea between you and Cecile will stand, right?" She asked, barely sure of the reply she might get.

He slightly raised his eyes away from the papers at hand at the mention of marriage.

"The Sterlings are patiently waiting for your reply. Cecile already gave a yes and frankly, Enrico, you should too. Perhaps, it's time you settle down and there's no better match than Cecile. She's beautiful, hardworking, smart, charming and an heiress worth billions. She'll make a great wife..."

"Yes." He suddenly stated, as he raised his eyes to them, interrupting whatever his mother was saying.

"Y-Yes? You accept to marry her?" Giulia questioned with surprise drawn across her face. She had hoped for this reply, but it came too soon and unexpectedly. She didn't know whether or not to believe her ears.

"Yes." He repeated once more, which caused both mum and aunt to slightly widen their eyes.

"You've always done whatever you felt like and it never mattered to you, whether I fancied it or not, so go ahead and plan the wedding." He stated before getting up to his feet and making his way out of the office.

Giulia blinked several times in an attempt to comprehend what had happened.

"He's... different." She stated, her expression different from usual.

Sofia let out a silent sigh before turning to her.

"And we like it 'cause different... is good." She commented, before displaying a simple smile. Giulia eventually drew up a smile as she made the plan of focusing on the future, instead of the present.

Kiana sprayed once more on the transparent glass, then began wiping properly to get rid of any stain and only when she was done did she make her way back into the coffee shop.

"Enrico Vos, the American-Italian CEO of Edoardo vineyards..." The mention of the familiar name caused her to come to a halt. She had an idea where the voice hailed from, so she made a turn towards it. As she stared at the screen of the television hung on the wall, her brows slowly furrowed whilst she read the headline.

Enrico Vos and Cecile Sterling, soon to be married.

She felt her heart sink deep upon reading the headline and as the image of him sliding a ring onto Cecile Sterling's finger came up, her eyes grew watery. Eventually she looked away as she gulped down. Her legs felt shaky, so, for that moment, she stood frozen to that very spot.

He truly never loved me after all.

She stated within her mind as she felt the light of betrayal illuminate within her, but then again, she had ended things with him as well. She had moved and stayed away from him as much as possible. It hurt a great deal, but she did it anyway because she thought of his happiness. She didn't want to spoil his name and reputation with her background. She didn't want him to live with the fact of having to tolerate everything about her life. He deserved someone way better than her and perhaps, that person was Cecile Sterling.

She shut her eyes in pain and the tears came trickling down her cheeks. Unable to listen anymore to the news, she turned and quickly walked away.

"This or this." Giulia questioned as she raised an opened page of a bridal magazine to both Enrico and Cecile. Two ladies dressed in different wedding gowns laid on either of the pages.

After a moment of staring, Enrico let out a sigh as he stood to his feet.

"I have important work to do." He started, as he walked away towards the door out of the room.

"I'll take my leave as well." Cecile blurted out right away, as she stood to her feet as well. Enrico stopped for a moment to take a look at her, their eyes met and he looked away before pulling the door to open and stepping out.

Giulia stared in silence as she watched Cecile walk away as well. Once alone in the room, she let out a tiresome sigh. The expression on her face, quite sad.

Cecile hastened her pace to catch up with Enrico and once by his side, she spoke up.

"Are you happy?" She suddenly asked and he was forced to take a look at her before looking away. He stood while waiting for the driver to get his car from where it was parked and she stood beside him.

"It doesn't matter. We're getting married, aren't we?" He replied and silence fell in their midst for a second before she spoke up.

"Your assistant, I haven't seen her in a while. It didn't work out?"

"She resigned." He replied, right away without sparing her a glance.

"Hmm, too bad. She seemed like a really nice person."

"Looks can be deceiving."

"So, she hurt you." Cecile added, quite immediately and Enrico was forced to take one look at her.

"I don't want to talk about my assistant."

"Assistant." Cecile stated as she looked away from him.

"She really didn't seem like an assistant to you when you brought her along to your aunt's art exhibition and to our first supposed date. It also didn't seem so when you ignored my presence at the pharmacy for her sake or when you kissed her in front of my building... I really don't think she was just your assistant." She stated her last sentence as she shifted her eyes back to him.

Her mention of events brought back memories and he tightened his fists to control his emotions.

"We're getting married, aren't we? Why are you bringing up the past?" He questioned, as he shifted his eyes to her.

He watched as she took in a deep breath.

"Because I do not want to play the villain in your love story and... I don't want to marry you as much as you don't. You're not even my type." She commented and slowly his brows furrowed at the reply he least expected.

"You might not say it, but I know you love her and she probably loves you just as much. I really don't get why you're not with her at the moment."

"It's complicated and she made it clear just how much she didn't want to be with me."

"She specifically said those words?" She questioned and Enrico blinked for a few times in recollection.

"No, but she meant exactly that."

"You can't say that for sure. Women, most at times, mean the opposite of what they say. It's complicated as well, but trust me... She wants you." Cecile explained, hoping to get through to him. Enrico stared at her for a moment before looking away.

"You never went after her when she walked away. You never searched for her whereabouts. You never insisted you sort things out and most of all... you never fought for her, right?" She questioned and when she got no reply from Enrico, she concluded her reply.

"That's where you went wrong. Enrico, it's not too late to make things right with her." She stated and right about that time, his car drove up to their front and a man stepped out, then Enrico went to meet him. He collected the keys and the man walked away.

"It's not as easy as you make it out to be." He finally commented.

"Enrico... nothing about love is easy." She added, before displaying a really simple smile, one he had never really seen on her face. It made him think for a moment before he eventually got into the car and shut the door. He took in a deep breath as he shut his eyes for a moment before he eventually drove off.

He quietly and slowly drove his car to a stop at a secluded corner, whilst his eyes remained on the cab that just drew to a stop in front of a four storey building block. His brows slightly narrowed as he sighted Macy stepping out of the car and eventually making her way into the building.

Honestly, he had no idea as to why he was here, but something about Cecile words drove him to that point. Macy was the only one at the office that Kiana spoke quite often to and for another strange reason, he decided to tag along, but from behind. He contemplated a great on whether to follow her into the building or not. There was a great possibility that Kiana might be living with her.

Eventually, he stepped down from the car, then shut the door afterwards. He took a look around and there wasn't much to see and he raised his eyes to scan the buildings as well, then lowered his eyes. At the verge of taking a step forward, his brows slowly furrowed and he immediately turned his head as he looked up once more to the rooftop of the building Macy went into.

There, Kiana stood staring out into space. His heart raced just staring at her. It had truly been quite a while since he set eyes on her and he was still very much in love with her. She still made his heart flutter and his legs feel weak. He stared nonstop and when her eyes shifted to his side, he immediately ducked, hiding with his car as his shield. Truly, he had no idea why he did that. He made his way there with the intention of finding her and when he did, he hid away from her.

Enrico let out a light sigh, while he rested on his car. Perhaps, deep down he wasn't ready to meet her. She had said a lot and he did the same as well. He feared the word rejection.

He shut his eyes, hating his very state.
