Bluebell (part 2)

Enrico's mobile phone rang and he picked it up. One look at the caller ID and his mood changed. He sighed before picking up the call and brought the phone close to ear.

"Enrico, I need the new password this moment." She ordered through the phone. He lightly rubbed his forehead in irritation.

"You do know that there's a good reason I changed the password into my apartment, right?"

"And that would be?" She asked on purpose.

"Mum, please don't play games with me. You know this isn't the first time I'm changing the password because of you. I've had to change it countless of times just to keep you out." He told her, as he rested his head on his left hand.

"Enrico, when you decided to move out of our perfectly huge home, I said nothing; but you can't block me out like this. You neither want to get a good woman nor a maid into your apartment. I have no choice but to keep doing this. I'm the only one who can look out for you, so give me the password or you'll never hear the end of this." She warned him meaning every word in her sentence.

Enrico slightly withdrew the phone away from his ear, as he shut his eyes for a second and gritted his teeth bitterly within closed mouth at how helpless he was. His pulse heightened in anger as he folded his other hand into a fist. He tried so hard not to squash his phone at the moment. Finally, he opened his eyes once more and let out a relieving sigh, before bringing the phone back to his ear.

"Fine. I'll text you the password." He told her before cutting the call, refusing to give her any chance at all to say anything more to him.

He roughly rubbed his hand across his face. She had put him in a sour mood. He didn't even know why he always bothered with changing the password when each time, he always ends up giving it to her. It was futile for him to fight with his mum and he clearly knew that. She was one woman who knew how to throw tantrums and get things done her way.

Kiana could hear her own stomach grumble but she ignored it. She hadn't eaten anything since the cereal the previous night. Her stomach begged and craved for food but it was something she couldn't do. She took out her purse and went through it. She barely had enough for transport to her part-times, plus she needed to save enough money to pay Trent. He really wasn't one to kid around with. She had no idea how she managed to last this long owing him.

"Kiana, aren't you having lunch? Come with us. There's this new restaurant down the street." Lisa asked, as she walked up to her desk with two other employees.

Kiana managed to put up a smile as she quickly returned her purse into her handbag.

"Um... No, I think I'll pass. I... I have some work to do." She lied, trying to keep her expression understandable. Lisa narrowed her eyes at her.

"Oh come on, there's a reason why it's called lunch break, so quit all that and come with us." Lisa persisted and Kiana just smiled as she shook her head as well.

"Yes, Kiana; come with us." The other employee urged with a smile but Kiana remained adamant. She had no choice but to keep saying no. It would be embarrassing to go all the way to the restaurant with them and end up with having just a bottle of water.

"No. Thank you guys so much for the offer but... I... I'm really not that hungry, so I'll pass. You should go on. I'll be fine." Kiana stated, pressuring them to leave her behind.

"Fine. Okay, if you say so." Lisa gave up and soon enough, they were on their way towards the restaurant.

Kiana let out a sigh as she watched them leave. If only they knew how hungry she was but unfortunately, such luxury wasn't written in her destiny. She returned her stares to the screen of the computer in front of her. Perhaps, she would forget her hunger if she occupies her mind with work.

"Kiana, you're coming with me." Enrico ordered, as he suddenly walked past her. She instantly raised her eyes only to catch him walk away. Quickly, she got up to her feet, grabbed her handbag and hastened her pace after him.

Kiana unbuckled her belt as Enrico did just as soon as they got to their destination. He turned to her, his brows slightly furrowed.

"Where are you going?" He asked, as he stared at her.

"I assume I'll be going in with you." Kiana stated, the honest truth looking anywhere but into his eyes.

He gave a light scoff.

"Well, stop assuming and learn to wait for my orders." He told her before unlocking the door and getting off without any further explanation for her to understand.

Kiana took in a deep breath, as she watched him walk past his car and towards the restaurant a few steps away from where his car was parked. As she stared at Enrico walk away, Kiana realised for the first time that he really was a different person. He wasn't the same kid she knew. The kid she knew had a warm heart and only nice words flew out of his mouth, but this man was different. Even his name was different. She wouldn't deny the fact that he possessed almost all the attractive features there are to be in a guy. He was tall, well-built and he smelt incredibly nice. Being in the car with him has been the closest she had come to him. He had left the car, but his scent lingered on; a strong scent that could even tell a blind man of how rich the man was. His fashion sense wasn't bad either.

Kiana folded her arms grumpily across her chest as she wondered why he took her along in the first place, if he was going to just leave her in his car.

Enrico walked into the restaurant and scanned with his eyes for any sign of the person he was looking for. His eyes finally fell on a middle-aged man putting a piece of chicken into his mouth. A smile curled up on Enrico's face at the familiar man, before he hastened his steps towards him.

"Uncle Alessandro." Enrico called, with a twinkle of excitement evident in his voice. The slightly tanned skin man looked up to him. His eyes widened a bit in surprise, as he watched Enrico have his seat opposite him. Alessandro chewed the piece in his mouth faster, so he could speak.

"Enrico!?" He asked, in a clear Italian accent and an equal excitement in his voice.

Enrico's smile broadened as he nodded.

"Yes." Enrico admitted and Alessandro's eyes widened.

"My goodness! You've grown. You're now a man and I hear you now break women's heart." Alessandro stated, as he still stared at Enrico in amazement.

Enrico gave a brief modest laughter.

"When did you arrive to the U.S?" Enrico asked, now wanting to know more about the man than himself.

"Well, yesterday. I thought I should see you before leaving. After all, it has been three years now since you left Italy, but it seems like it has been more than that." Alessandro explained and in that moment, Enrico had a flash of his past memories. He sighed.

"Yes." Enrico added.

"Three years, but it has felt like forever. Little Enrico of yesterday is now running the company. Your uncle would be proud of you if he were still alive." Alessandro added, with a sad expression and so did Enrico.

"How is everyone back in Italy? How's the vineyard doing?" Enrico asked, just as a waitress approached them.

"Would you like anything, sir?" The waitress asked, as she got ready to jot down with her small notebook.

"No, thank you." He told her before taking his eyes away from her and back to the man in front of him.

"Are you sure, sir? Even a glass of water... Anything else?" She asked him and he looked up to her only to realise she was smiling at him.

He knew the look she had in her eyes. He had seen that look thousands of times; the look of flirt. It was cute how hard she tried but he wasn't here for that, plus he doesn't pick up waitresses.

He put up a warm smile.

"No. That'll be all." He simply told her off and the smile on her face eventually diminished before she took one look at Alessandro, then walked away.

Enrico turned back to him, only to meet an amusing look on his face. As he couldn't hold it in any longer, he gave a light laugh and Enrico smiled.

"Ah, youth. Good old days for me... Everyone back home is fine. The vineyard is doing great." Alessandro finally gave a reply and Enrico nodded in understanding.

Kiana sighed, as she shut her eyes. Her stomach growled once more. Her face squeezed in pain. It wasn't just growling but now, she could feel actual pains. She was also starting to feel suffocated sitting in this very car that her boss couldn't generously lower down the glasses, so she could breathe in fresh air.

She soothed her abdomen, as if that would ease up the stabbing pain she was feeling down there. She knew she needed to get something into her mouth. Anything would do the trick. She opened her eyes and that's when she caught sight of someone selling hot dogs, a few blocks away from where she was. She took a look at the restaurant her boss had walked into. There was no sign of him coming out and so her mind told her to better rush off now and get something to eat before he returns.. Normally, she would hold it off, but at the moment she couldn't, especially as she has a job during the evening.

Quickly, she stepped down from the car with her handbag worn over her shoulder. She shut the door and took one more look at the restaurant, before hastening her pace towards the vendor.

Enrico walked out the restaurant after saying goodbye to his uncle and leaving him behind, as the old man wasn't ready to leave. The phone in one of the pocket of his coat vibrated and he got it out to answer.

"Hello." Enrico answered, as he tucked his other hand into the pocket of his coat.

"Yes. I know." Enrico replied to the other person on the line as he slightly turned, sparing one look down before raising his eyes.

His brows slowly furrowed as he noticed a familiar person in the distance. He took one look at his car before taking steps towards it. He opened the door to the passenger's seat and realised Kiana wasn't in. He shut the door and turned back to the sight he once saw.

"Good. I'll be there." Enrico answered before the call was cut. Slightly, he tilted his head to the right, narrowing his eyes at her, as if that would make him understand better what she was doing.

Kiana took a huge bite off her hot dog, the mustard and ketchup spilled to the floor, as she dodged it from staining her shirt. Her cheeks looked swollen from the food in her mouth. As she slightly put a hand over her mouth to cover up, she chewed as fast as she could for fear of precious time being wasted. She didn't care at the moment if a few people gave her stares here and there. They had no idea what she was going through; hungry as hell and having a boss ticking like a time bomb ready to explode on her.

Kiana forced the last large piece into her mouth and tried her best to chew. The sudden thought of her boss got her worried. She decided to look in the direction of the restaurant and that's when she saw him. Suddenly, she choked, and then coughed. He just stood in a strange manner staring at her. She didn't know what that meant. Was she in trouble? She shouldn't have left his car unattended to. Had someone stolen something? She didn't have any more money to pay and she can't incur another debt.

He signalled to her to come forward. She looked away from him for a second, now quickening her chewing. She dusted her hand and mouth before turning back and walking up to him. Once again, she couldn't meet his eyes, as guilt washed over her.

Suddenly, a light chuckle escaped his lips, as he looked away from her for a second. The look on her face was truly amusing. The stunt she pulled a few seconds ago, amusing as well and so he couldn't help chuckling. Her brows slightly furrowed in confusion as she eventually looked up to him. Here she was thinking that he would be furious at her and somehow, he wasn't. At least, he didn't look angry.

He sighed, as he turned back to her. Their eyes met.

"I asked you to wait but you left my car unguarded." He told her and she looked anywhere else but him.

"I had to get something..." The rest of her words trailed away, as she realised it would be futile arguing with him. Nevertheless, she had accepted this job out of her free will, regardless of the fact that he might take advantage of his power over her.

A silent sigh escaped her lips.

"... I'm sorry." She ended taking one look at him.

His brows slightly ceased as he looked away from her. He turned back to her.

"You have something by the side of your face." He told her, as he pointed to his own cheek, but referring to the little mustard stain on her cheek.

She took notice of his gesture and instantly understood what he was trying to say. She wiped her cheek as much as she could with her hands, but amazingly, that didn't wipe the stain off. Enrico wondered how that was possible. He couldn't take it any longer as time was being wasted, so he reached into the pocket of his trouser and got out a handkerchief.

"Wait, let me do it." He told her, as he attempted to wipe off the stain for her.

Kiana could barely understand what was happening, as everything seemed to have happened so fast. There she was standing right in front of Enrico who, she suspects, hates her but he was being kind enough to help her out by using his own handkerchief to wipe the stain off her cheek. It didn't make sense. None of it did.

Her eyes shifted to his and they stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds, before Enrico suddenly withdrew his hand. He looked away for a second feeling awkward about the whole situation. He believed he was in control of the entire situation, but just realised for a minute there... he wasn't.

"There... It's gone." Enrico told her, trying to ward off the awkwardness but it wasn't quite working.

He took hold of her hand and put the handkerchief there. Although, a little taken aback by his action, Kiana held onto the handkerchief while he let go of her hand.

"You can have it. Apparently... you need it more than I do." He told her before walking past her, the car and towards the door into the driver's seat.

Kiana shut her eyes for a second, as she took in a deep breath. Just when she thought there might actually still be some good left in him, he had to go and ruin it.

"Are you coming or not?" Enrico asked, as he lowered the glass to take a look at her.

She sighed, resigning any other thought before opening the door and getting into the car. She buckled her seat belt and remained calm for him to know she was ready. She watched him put on his sunglasses, before pressing a button and then the roof of his car slowly retracted.

Kiana frowned at the ray of sunlight her eyes just unknowingly took in. She hid her face behind the shadow of her hand. He started the car before taking one look at her. A crazy smile curled up on his face, just after he turned on the radio. At first, it sounded just like whispers and then he turned the volume up. Thereafter, he stepped on the brakes to drive away.

Kiana rolled her eyes annoyingly away from him. This was indeed going to be a long drive to wherever they were going.
