Apple Blossom (part 2)

Her brows slightly furrowed as she noticed a man walk to the other side of the room to get something. She barely got a good look at him, as he went by so fast and Kerry's body was partly blocking her view.

"Here." Enrico stated, as he walked up to Kerry to hand her the money. She smiled as she collected the money from him and in that instant, his eyes shifted from Kerry to the familiar face behind her. Her eyes widened a bit, but her baseball cap slightly shadowed her face which made recognising her a bit hard for him. His brows slightly furrowed as he tried to make out who it was and why did the pizza delivery lady look familiar to him. Finally, he put the pieces together and it all made sense to him. His eyes widened upon realisation of who it was.

Kiana couldn't believe her eyes. Enrico was halfway dressed, with the buttons of his shirt all open and out from its usual tuck in position of etiquette and class. As he stared at her, for some reason she stared back. Both looked surprised to see each other. Kiana hadn't expected to see this side to him, not one bit. He truly wasn't the same person she used to know. He was, definitely, a different person.

"Hey! Hello!" Kerry called to get Ana's attention as she snapped her fingers in front of her eyes. Finally, she succeeded as Ana shifted her eyes back to her, trying her best to hide how little she had been startled by her fingers snapping in front of her eyes.

Kerry handed the money to Ana who accepted feeling a bit shaky; she couldn't understand why. In truth, whatever her boss did with his life wasn't her business. They were nothing to each other except being an employer and her, his employee. Kiana tried to reach for the little purse she had hung around her neck in order to search for change but Kerry stopped her.

"Don't worry about that. You can keep the change." Kerry told her and Ana managed to put a little smile in gratefulness.

"Thank you." She appreciated and Kerry nodded as she took a few steps backward before taking hold of the door and shutting it. In a matter of a second, Ana's eyes met with Enrico's once more, before Kerry completely shut the door.

Ana blinked a few times, still a bit in shock at what she had seen. She didn't even understand why she was thinking about what she saw. He was her boss and she, his employee. There was nothing else there to explain about their relationship. The past was in the past and the present wrote its own story. Kiana shook her head at all the funny stuffs going on at the moment. She didn't have the luxury of thinking about what someone else was doing with their own life. Right now, she had a lot on her plate to deal with and that was what she was going to focus all her attention on. Finally, she turned and walked away without taking one more look behind.

"She's weird." Kerry stated, just after she shut the door but Enrico didn't spare her a glance. His eyes were fixated anywhere but on her. His mind had travelled far and his thoughts all jiggled up. He couldn't quite explain the feeling he felt right after he realised Kiana was the one who saw him with Kerry. It was strange, especially for someone like him, who hardly cared about what the world thought. Why was there a difference regarding Kiana? Normally, he wasn't supposed to give a damn even if she saw him in bed with five different women; but now, all that didn't make sense to him.

"Enrico." Kerry called almost in a whisper as she held him from behind and her hands found its way ever so gently up to his chest. A light chuckle left her lips, as she rested her head slightly on his shoulder from behind. He took a look at her hands on his chest and realised that whatever stupidity which led him to come here with her in the first place, had eventually disappeared. He had suddenly lost interest. He didn't know what she had done that made him break his rule in the first place, but clearly, his head wasn't in the game and so he settled for anything.

He took hold of both her hands and pushed them down away from his chest and stepped away from her to her surprise.

"Enrico..." She started, but he paid no attention to her, as he walked up to the table to pick up his belongings before heading to the door.

"Enrico, where are you going?" She asked, rather startled by his sudden change of behaviour. He said nothing to her as he opened the door and walked out.

"Enrico! Enrico!!" She called out to him as she stood by the door, yet she got nothing; neither a word nor a reaction. He kept walking and spared her not even one last glance.

Kiana approached the door to her apartment that night and just when she was about to reach out for the door knob, she noticed a strange paper stuck to the door. Her brows slightly furrowed as she read through.

"Eviction!?" She exclaimed, a bit surprised at this sudden piece of information. Apparently, the landlord was asking her to vacate the apartment within two days, after having withheld nearly a rent of three months; unless of course, she somehow manages to pay up.

Kiana sighed quite loudly.

"Great. Just definitely what I needed... more problems." Kiana stated sarcastically, as she lightly brushed her hair backwards with her hand out of frustration. She would have to have a talk with her roommate, then make out a plan on what they were going to do next. As for her, she barely had enough to pay for the rent as she still had lots of expenses to live up to.

Kiana got out her keys to unlock the door only to realise that the door was already open. She realised her roommate might be home after all and deep down she hoped she was still awake, so they could have a little talk on what to do next. She was grateful to be able to make it home a little earlier than her usual late time. Kiana pushed the door open and stepped in before shutting it behind her.

The apartment was dark as her lights were still cut, due to not having paid the bill. She noticed a seemingly shadow of red light coming from the room. Her brows slightly furrowed, as she also noticed a travelling box by the side of the door into the room. She recognised it as Mel's box but she couldn't quite understand why it was out from its usual place. She took hold of it and realised it was heavy.

Did she pack?

Kiana asked herself in confusion as she pushed the slightly opened door into the room only to meet her roommate with her back faced to her. Mel was busy packing up a few stuff into her second box that lay open on the bed, therefore, she neither noticed Kiana's presence nor heard her footsteps approaching behind her. Kiana also noticed the light that illuminated the room was from the two candles set at different places in the room.

"What are you doing?" Kiana asked to the startle of Mel, who immediately turned to her. Mel stood there, eyes wide open in surprise, staring at Kiana who stared back in confusion.

Mel sighed before turning back to what she was doing.

"I'm leaving." She admitted the horrifying truth. Kiana's brows furrowed deeper at her words.

"Leaving? You... you mean like on a vacation?" Kiana asked, trying to understand better.

"No, Kiana. I meant like I'm leaving. I'm moving out." Mel stated without turning to her but instead hastened up with what she was doing.

Moving out.

The words rang once more in Kiana's mind.

"I thought I would get home right after work and pack up before you get back but apparently, you're back earlier than I anticipated." Mel tried to explain, as she walked back to the wardrobe to get something and then back to the bed.

"Pack up? Why are you moving out? I thought we understood each other. Did we have any difference that I didn't know of? Was I a bother?" Kiana asked the normal question any one in her shoes would do at the very moment.

"No, no." Mel stated, as she finally turned to Kiana feeling a tad frustrated to have to explain her reasons. With a hand on her waist and the other on her forehead, Melanie began her explanation.

"You've been a wonderful roommate, but Kiana, I have problems just like you do. Besides, Gerald, my boyfriend has been offering for the two of us to live together for quite a while now but each time, I turn him down. I finally accepted his offer and I really think this is for the best. We've been together for a while now and it's not such a bad step to take, so I wanted to pack up and leave before you get back, but things didn't go according to plan."

"Mel." Kiana started, as she dropped her handbag on the bed and took steps closer.

"You can't leave." Ana stated and Mel furrowed her brows.

"Why not? I moved in here on my own and I'm pretty sure, I can do the same." Mel explained referring to how they ever met in the first place. Kiana had told the landlord that she needed a roommate, someone to share the rent money with and eventually Mel was introduced to her. So, for the past two years, they've lived together as roommates and friends.

"Yes, I know that but... I can't do this. I have so much to deal with right now. The landlord is threatening to throw me out if I don't show up at his door with the rent in the next two days and the lights are out, as the bill hasn't been paid. Trent is on my neck to pay up the debt that apparently grew with interest through the past nine years. I still have to pay up the loan I took from the bank for college. My mum has been in jail for the past nine years for something she didn't do and I have to pay the attorney to fight her case in court when the court doesn't accept our appeal." Kiana blurted out all at once, and thereafter, was left panting. She hadn't plan on stating out her entire life's problem but she just couldn't help it, as she thought doing that would make Mel understand where she was coming from, even if a least bit.

Mel narrowed her eyes at her, not quite understanding what was happening there, but one thing caught her attention.

"Who's Trent?" She suddenly asked a question far from what Kiana wanted to hear. Kiana's brows relaxed from its squeezed up position, as she sighed, then brushing her hair with her hand.

"Mel, could you please, at least, wait for like a few days just so I could explain to the landlord and then get a new roommate?" Kiana asked in the nicest manner, but Mel had already zipped up her box and got it down, off the bed.

Mel sighed, as she flashed Kiana a weak smile.

"I'm sorry... I can't. Gerald is waiting downstairs for me and... I've put him off for far too many times. I've made up my mind to do this. Please forgive me." Mel stated which rendered Kiana speechless. She drew closer and engulfed her in a quick hug.

"Stay alive. I know you'll get through it all." Mel added before letting go of the hug and flashing one last smile. Kiana stood there defeated, in the dim illumination of the room. She had tried her best to make Mel stay behind, just so her situation could be a little easier on her. Perhaps, she was also being selfish with her demands regardless of what Mel could be going through as well. After all, they all had problems, but she never expected them to part ways in such a manner. She, honestly, thought everything was going great between the two of them and that they were friends. Perhaps, she thought too much ahead of time.

"By the way Kiana..." Mel called just as she was by the door, out of the room. Kiana slightly turned to her.

"You can keep the shoes." She told her regarding the one Kiana was wearing and had been doing so, since she got her new job. Kiana took a look down at her feet where the shoes fit ever so tightly on. She didn't know what to say. Thank you? Could that be the right thing for her to say or should she just take them off and demand Mel to take it along with her, right out of the apartment.

She couldn't decide, so she stood like a moron and watched her leave. A part of her feeling like her worst nightmare was coming to surface. Everything was truly falling apart. Perhaps, she was cursed when she was still a child or the worst just loved coming for her. She couldn't understand. Kiana only believed Mel was truly gone when she heard the front door shut and silence engulfed her, as she stood in the apartment feeling all alone.

She sighed as she slumped to have a seat on the bed. She didn't know whether to cry, yell or plead for help. She was clueless at to what next step to take in her life. For some reason, this very day felt worse than her other days. Perhaps, it was because her supposed friend just abandoned or the fact she recalled the side of her boss she had seen earlier that night. Kiana didn't know what to think anymore, but one thing she knew she wanted was to stop thinking. She would give anything and everything just to be in a state of oblivion; clueless not having to live with so many responsibilities. Why couldn't she have been born into a different circumstance? Why was her life so disturbing?

Kiana let out one more sigh as she decided to move on. Mel was gone from her life and now, she was left alone to sort out herself. She carefully took off her shoes, ignoring the pains she still had at the back of her ankles. All she did was lightly soothe it before letting her feet rest on the bare ground once more. She drew her handbag closer to her and began to unload some of its content. She inserted her hand into the handbag and got out a white handkerchief.

Her brows slightly furrowed, as she tried to recall whose it was as she hadn't taken any with her to work that very day, plus the scent was a lot different from her. She recalled earlier that day when Enrico inserted the handkerchief into her hand and rudely left a remark on her. She knew it was his. She stared at the handkerchief looking as white as a snow. A crazy thought of a temptation to inhale its scent flew passed her mind. She inwardly shook her head at the thought, but the more she stared at it, the more she felt hypnotised to do just what her mind was telling her.

Finally, she gave in, as she slowly drew the handkerchief in her hand closer to her nostrils to inhale the scent. The first inhaling and she was involuntarily forced to shut her eyes. The little, different memories of him surfaced once more, but the one that got her to immediately open her eyes was the part where she saw him behind the lady at the hotel with the buttons of his shirt all open. Kiana didn't want to think of what she saw; but somewhere deep down; curiosity was killing her to her bones. She had to constantly remind herself of the fact that his personal life was his and what he chose to do with it was none of her business. She couldn't understand why she was starting to think a lot about him when she barely remembered him through these past years. Perhaps, it was because he, now, looked like every woman's dream man. She wouldn't deny he was handsome, tall and very masculine. She believed the exact word for her whole analysis of him is the word, attractive. Yes, she wouldn't deny he was a very attractive man, although she had only recently met this grown side to him.

Kiana had shut out anything that reminded her of the past, but when she realised the universe had brought her to her knees right in front of him, she concluded the universe was making a mockery of her, but still she couldn't give up. Enrico and she, clearly, were now worlds apart. He was her boss and she, his employee and she intended on keeping things strictly that way, so God alone could help her.
