4. Bluebell

Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love.

Enrico walked towards his office with one hand buried into the pocket of his trouser. He nodded his head to the greetings of the employees and flashed a few smiles at intervals. On drawing closer to the door into his office, he realised the seat meant for his P.A, which had been vacant for days now, seemed to be occupied. Enrico slightly furrowed his brows as he caught a glimpse of who it was. He should have known. He should have remembered but he got caught up in trying to block out his thoughts from his mind that he forgot the next problem that faced him this very day.

"Good morning, Mr. Vos." A lady greeted with a broad smile as she walked past him.

Immediately, Kiana raised her head from the position in which she had it bowed, staring at something under her newly owned desk. She caught sight of Enrico as he nodded to the employee, reciprocating the smile she flashed at him. He turned away from the employee and back to his new P.A. Kiana felt frozen as they stared at each other for a moment, before he eventually looked away and decided to hasten his steps towards his office.

"Good morning, sir." Kiana greeted, as she quickly got up to her feet before he could walk past her.

Suddenly, he came to a halt; a part of him surprised by her greeting. He knew he shouldn't be but her calling him sir didn't quite settle. He wasn't used to it. He never expected it. Yesterday, he had given Lisa her name without thinking clearly of the consequences. Even now, he couldn't tell exactly what he was really up to. Did he sincerely give her the job because she was capable, or did he do so to rub it in her face at how great he had turn out? He wasn't quite sure but one thing he knew was that time would eventually tell.

He took a one look at her before marching forward into his office.

She sighed before having her seat once more. She hadn't realised just how much she held her breath. She didn't want to give him any course to worry or complain and so he made sure to come to work as early as possible. She wanted to show him just how efficient she could be and she was glad she did.

Lisa had welcomed her and shown her to this very seat which she sat on. She talked a bit about the company and eventually handed her a few things she had held onto, which only his assistant needed to have. Lisa had her own position at the company and handling the assistant job for a few days took a strain on her, as she had begun to serve two masters at a time. She stated just how happy she was that Mr. Vos now has a new assistant. His last assistant resigned as she needed to move to another country for personal reasons.

Kiana didn't want to sound greedy but perhaps, she had to thank his old assistant for leaving her job and giving her a chance to find this job. She wouldn't deny the fact that her salary from this very job is going to be way better than what she was ever paid from her part-times. She would just have to lay low and quietly do all that her new boss says. She admitted to the fact that seeing him everyday wasn't going to be easy for her to deal with and she could only imagine that the same feeling applies to him, but of course, much worse.

Her face slightly squeezed in pain before she reached down to her shoes. She soothed the back of her ankles to lessen the pain she was feeling, without having to take off her shoes.

He let out a sigh as he threw his head backwards to rest on the headrest of his chair. He couldn't concentrate on his work. It hadn't always been this way for him. Yes, his mind wasn't always with him but it didn't actually wonder off this far. How could he concentrate when the woman who broke his heart was sitting steps away from his office and she was now his assistant? What was he thinking when he hired her? He needed to get it together.

He twirled his chair round and round as he stared at the ceiling. He couldn't describe how he felt right then. It made him wonder if truly, he was okay with what was going on in his life. The truth was that he wasn't. He wasn't calm. He wasn't at peace. Deep down, he felt a little enraged. He had felt this way for years. He couldn't get rid of his anger. He suppressed them so good, that anyone who laid eyes on him would envy his life. He wouldn't deny the fact that he blamed Kiana for the emotional mess he was presently in.

Somehow, that very day, nine years ago when she said no to his proposal, he lost something. He didn't know exactly what it was but he had never been the same again. She had broken him. It could never be the same for him again but Kiana, she looked like she moved on. He was convinced by her lack of ability to recognise him that she had certainly put the past behind her. She had forgotten him and the embarrassment she put him through. All he could see was red. How could she move on when he hadn't? He really did mean nothing to her. Not even as a friend. He needed to do something; anything to make him feel better. He wanted her to feel as terrible as he does and if using his power as her boss he could do that, then he was definitely going to do that. Call him childish for not getting over his childhood crush; he really didn't care. Childhood crush shouldn't hurt that much.

The telephone on Kiana's table rang and she picked up the receiver to her ear.

"Hello." She said.

"I need you in my office, now." He ordered through the phone and before she could even think of anything to say, he cut the call.

Her brows slightly ceased up, as she withdrew the receiver away from her ear then stared at it for a second. She knew she shouldn't feel affected whatsoever, but she really couldn't help it. This part of their story just needed some getting used to and then she would be alright. It wasn't her first time being bossed around. In fact, that's the story of her life.

Quickly, she got up to her feet, made sure she was looking prim and proper before taking steps towards his office. She ignored the pain that surged through the back of her ankle which was the result of her shoes being too tight on her. After all, they weren't hers.

She took in a deep breath before knocking on his door.

"Come in." His voice rang through the door and she gently turned the knob to the door before walking in. Gently, she shut it behind her.

As she walked towards him, she realised he had his head down and his eyes glued to the tablet in his hands.

"Yes, sir. You called for me." She told him professionally, as she finally stood in front of his table.

He lurked his eyes left and right for a second before raising them up to her. A seemingly simple smile now portrayed on his face. He needed to show that he was okay. He was composed. He wasn't affected by the fact she didn't seem nervous at all standing in front of him.

"I need a cup of coffee." He told her and she gave an immediate nod.

"Yes, sir." She stated before turning away to leave.

He furrowed his brows before slightly tilting his head to his left.

"Where are you going?" He asked and she came to a halt before turning back to him.

"To... To get you a cup of coffee." She told him, now sounding a bit unsure about what she was going to do. Her face had a slightly confused expression. His smile broadened before releasing a light chuckle clearly filled with mock. She withdrew her eyes away from him for a moment, as it was evident he mocked her.

"Where do you plan on getting me this coffee?" He told her, as he rested his left arm on the armrest of his chair and supported his tilted head with his index finger raised and the rest slightly bent.

She stood straight, trying her best to radiate confidence. He did notice as he looked her up and down in a jiffy. A twinkle of amusement encoded in the icy blue eyes of his.

"Downstairs. At the..."

"Let me stop you right there." He rudely interrupted her, as he sat up. His head was now set straight; his brows slightly rose.

"I don't take the coffee made downstairs or wherever you planned on getting me one." He told her as he suddenly put on a serious look.

Her brows ceased up once more, as she clearly recollected Lisa telling her he has no problem taking the coffee all other employees took.

"But Lisa..."

"Forget what Lisa said. I'm your boss and I'll tell you what I like. Do you get that?" He told her and she nodded in accordance. She was going to play along, so she sucked back in any other thing she had to say, resigning any argument. He was right. He was her boss and he could take whatever he felt like.

"Yes, sir." She told him still standing straight and in order.

"Good." He commented, as he relaxed back in his seat. The look of amusement could be read across his face once more.

"I'll take the coffee made across the street." He stated, the look of mischievousness in his eyes. He was clearly taunting her.

She stared at him.

"Yes, sir." She finally replied before attempting to walk away once more.

"I'm not done, Miss Stuart." He called once again, his voice echoing annoyingly in her head. She shut her eyes for a second with her back faced to him and chanted the very important word for the moment.

Endure, Endure, Endure.

It actually worked so she turned back to him. She was no fool. She exactly knew what he was doing. He was making working here a little harder and impossible than it originally is. No problem. She was ready to take it all. Perhaps, acting this way towards her would make him feel better regarding their past, but at the same time, she was getting paid at the end of the month, so it was a win-win situation for her. Kiana took in a deep breath, and then exhaled silently.

His smile broadened while watching her reaction. He knew he was slowly getting to her. If only she knew this was just the beginning for her. He was going to do more and so much more. She couldn't escape his wrath.

"Yes, sir?" She asked, trying to show dedication.

Slowly, the broad smile on his face diminished to that of a simple one. She was handling well, all too well. That's good.

"Cream. I like lots of cream in my coffee. Don't forget that." He warned and watched as she nodded.

"Yes, sir. Do you need anything else?" She told him clearly giving a hint that she was up to his game.

The simple smile he had on his face fell for a moment. The fact that she really didn't seem so affected by this annoyed him to the core. The player couldn't be played. They glared loathly at each other for a second, before Enrico withdrew his eyes away from hers. He rubbed his hand roughly through his stubble before looking back up to her. This means war. A definite war had been declared.

A broad smile formed on his face then, clearly not from his heart. She maintained hers.

"No, Miss Stuart. That would be all." He told her and she nodded before turning to leave.

An idea came through his mind just at the nick of time. Mischievousness kicked in and a sly smile curled up on his lips.

"Oh Miss Stuart, I forgot to add something important." He called just, as her hand was on the door knob about to turn.

She raised her eyes away from the knob, a part of her really not surprise by his additional act. She turned back to him. She could see the sly smile on his face.

"Yes, sir?"

"You just have three minutes to make it back." He added refusing to wipe the mischievous look in his eyes.

Three minutes wasn't so bad to Kiana. After all, it was just across the street. She would run, if possible.

"Yes, sir." She told him, beaming with confidence before turning the knob, opening the door and walking out.

Enrico let out a light laughter just after she shut the door.

"Yes, sir." He mimicked in a lighter voice than his; his face making a funny gesture as he slightly widened his eyes. He twirled his chair around as well.

He shook his head in amusement. Kiana was still the same. Always thinking she has everything under control. If only she knew she didn't.

He sighed a bit satisfied with step one.

Kiana exasperated as soon as she was out of his office and in front of her own desk. While accepting this job, his attitude towards her had been put into consideration, so this didn't baffle her much. Working for him wouldn't be easy and she knew that, but he wasn't going to easily break her. She had been through much worse.

"Kiana, are you okay?" Lisa asked, just as she was passing by and noticed the look on Kiana's face. Kiana looked up to her.

"Uh, yes. I'm fine." She covered up while also trying to put up a smile.

"Okay." Lisa stated, before turning away.

You have three minutes.

She recalled his exact words before quickly taking out her wallet from her handbag and hastening her pace towards the elevator.

Kiana stood directly in front of the company's building right across the street. She looked left and right with her brows ceased up, as she realised there was no coffee shop directly in front of the company. She recalled the look on her boss's face and finally understood why he had a sly smile across his face. Obviously, he knew there was no coffee shop in front of the building, but he said it anyways.

She sighed as she decides to take her right first. She walked down as quickly as possible forgetting not to check out the shops as she passed by. She stopped only when she came to a turn in which there was a traffic light. She gulped down and she decided it had to be her left. She turned back and hastened her pace towards the direction. Across the street, a few blocks away from the company's building, was a coffee shop. She quickly got in and lucky for her, there was no queue. Immediately, she placed her order and waited patiently, as she tried her best to catch her breath from all the running.

She wiped away the sweat on her forehead with the back of her hand.

"Thank you." She appreciated as she finally collected the cup from the young man, who stood behind the counter. She searched her wallet for some money and paid the man. She was quickly on her way out and towards the company.

* * *

A knock came through the door into his office. As usual, he granted an entry order. Kiana walked in, carefully holding the cup with both her hands. He watched her keep the cup on his table before looking up to him.

"Your coffee, sir." She told him, as she tried to remain composed.

Enrico relaxed back on his seat once more, away from the documents he was just going through. He stared at her for what seemed like ages not quite putting on an expression on his face. She looked anywhere but into his eyes.

He stretched his hand and picked up the cup. He took off the lid and brought the cup to his lips to take a sip. His eyes rose to her, away from the cup. Her eyes met his and she looked away. He could see a little smile attempting to curl up by the side of her lips. He looked away from her and back to the cup before withdrawing it away from his lips. He placed the lid once more over the cup, before setting it back on the table at the exact spot she left it.

"Did you listen to anything I said at all?" He asked, as he looked back up to her. Her brows slightly furrowed in confusion as she turned her eyes back to him.

"I asked for a nice cup of coffee but you got me something else. The cream isn't even enough. It tastes bland." He complained on purpose without taking his eyes off her, wanting to catch her every reaction.

She took a look at the cup with confusion written all over her face. She could clearly remember telling the man behind the counter exactly how she wanted the coffee. There was no way the coffee could have tasted horribly. She took a look at him and he had on the same look as he did earlier. She understood exactly what game he was playing.

"I'm sorry, sir." She apologised, but he just scoffed with an amusing look on his face.

"Sorry? Miss Stuart, sorry won't fix this. What would fix this is if you get me my exact order." He told her and all she could do was take it all in. There was no need arguing about the case she had lost from the very beginning.

"Okay, sir." She told him before turning away.

A smile formed on his face as he looked away from and back to the documents in front of him.

Suddenly, she stopped for a second before turning and walking back to him. He looked up, an eyebrow raised at her.

"Yes?" He asked and she just stretched out her palm to him.

He looked strangely from it to her.

"What?"

"I need money to get you the coffee you need, sir." She stated, a little to his surprise. He hadn't thought of that. He glared at her for what seemed like ages, before reaching down into his wallet and getting out a clean note for her. He stretched out his hand to her and she collected it.

"Keep the change." He told her, putting up a brief smile.

She looked away from him for a second, quite annoyed by his way of calling her a beggar. She didn't want him getting to her or seeing the fact that he actually was getting to her. She put up a brief smile.

"Thank you, sir." She told him, before turning away.

Enrico looked away from her to the cup on his table, as he set his wallet on the same table. He rested his arm on the armrest, while slightly soothing his left brows, not quite opening his eyes.

"Miss Stuart, I think you're forgetting something." He called and she came to a stop.

She shut her eyes for a moment and wondered how long they were going to go in circles. Nonetheless, she turned back to him.

"What is it, sir?" She asked, as if interested.

He tapped the nails of his right hand on the table at the exact spot direction of the cup. She shifted her eyes to the cup.

"You forgot to take this with you." He told her, before curling up yet another smirk on his behalf.

She nodded before walking back to his table and picking up the cup. He watched her walk away and directly out of his office. She dropped the cup on her table, before quickly rushing out once more towards the elevator. The earlier she leaves, the earlier she gets back.
