Chapter Five: Arrival

This picture is an updated version of how I picture Raidah. I didn't know who this was before I found the pic, but apparently she's an actress.

Kallan sat in her seat on the plane, leg bouncing nervously. Only an hour left until they landed.

"Sacred?" Raidah asked from her seat on Kallan's left.

"Yeah," Kallan admitted. "Anything else I really need to know?"

"Well," Raidah drew out the word carefully, as if she was thinking over her words. "Their culture does take some getting used to."

"That's not surprising," said Kallan. "Are you sure they won't harm us?"

"They don't even remember we exist. To them, we are just myths," Raidah replied.

"Then why bother with all of this? Why not just cause some giant natural disaster to wipe them all out or something? It would be much easier."

"That would defeat the point," she explained. "We just want to have out home back, not destroy it."

"But the plan was to start a war. How do we do that without destroying everything? And going to war with the entire human race? They outnumber us by billions."

"Are you doubting me?" Raidah questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm only asking."

Raidah laughed. "And nothing's wrong with that darling. I was just joking."

"Oh," Kallan said, blushing.

"Excellent questions though, and it's only reasonable that you would be asking them. Let's start with the first one. Now, humans have already are fighting many of their own human wars. A war against the entire global population of humans, that's not what we're going to do. It's more of a... gradual take over."

"I don't understand."

"We start by seizing on major city. That will be easy enough, and will scare the entire global community. We work our way outwards from there. Who knows, they might even choose to just peacefully surrender eventually."

"And you just expect them not to fight back?" Kallan asked.

"Oh yes, they will fight back," Raidah said solemnly. "What do you think you've been for training all your life?"

The plane landed at 6:30 pm at an airport in Vancouver, Canada. Riadah glanced out the small airplane window at the crowds of human travelers. Whining toddlers, frustrated parents, excited college students. Businessmen and businesswomen, families. The world has changed since I was here last, she thought to herself.

"We're here," she said softly, nudging Kallan, who had fallen asleep while listening to music.

"Huh?" A confused Kallan shook her head and sat up, tired and irritated. "Waddayouwakemeupfor?" she slurred.

"We're here," Raidah repeated.

Kallan glanced out the window, and stared in awe at the airport. "Whoa."

"Yes, yes. Now remember, just act like a normal girl. If anyone asks, I'm your older sister. We're visiting our aunt and cousins, who live here in Vancouver, and we came here from America. Here's your 'passport', don't lose it."

Kallan gripped the fake passport tightly as they exited the plane. Raidah walked down the stairs first, giving a curt nod towards the pilot, who had swirling ice blue and dark gray tattoos signifying his Air abilities. Kallan followed anxiously, worried that someone would see something wrong with them.

"Relax," Raidah said when she saw how nervous she was. "They don't know who we are. They just think we're regular people. Well, rich regular people with their own jet, but still people."

They dumped their luggage onto a cart and proceeded towards customs. Raidah walked with a sort of "don't mess with me" posture, and people seemed to just move out of the way to let them through. While Raidah walked through the airport as if she had done so a thousand times, Kallan took her time gazing at everything. She was both impressed and scornful at the same time. Impressed at all the human inventions they had created to be able to function without Abilities, many of which were frequently used back on the Islands, and she had to admit they were extremely helpful. Other things she wasn't so impressed by. There's a recycling bin right there idiot, she thought as she watch a man toss a pile of papers into a trash can. No wonder the environment out here has been going down the drain.

The line to get into the country was long, and the wait was extremely tedious. Kallan wasn't used to waiting, and she ended up entertaining herself by making up stories about the people standing in line around her. That guy is a middle-aged business executive, heading home from a company trip. The man she was referring to was tall and thickset, with blue eyes and brown hair, though he was balding and didn't have much hair anyways. He was dressed sharply in a suit and pulled behind him a typical sleek black suitcase. He's going home to see his wife and kids, she continued. His son has a lead role in the school play, and he doesn't want to miss it. He doesn't get a lot of time with his kids, so that's why he looks so upset about the long line.

Finally it was their turn. Kallan handed her passport to the lady at the desk. She was worried that she would tell it was a fake, even though the Primum crafted just about the best fake ID's anyone ever could. This held true as the lady waved them on after asking the typical questions and accepting their (false) answers.

They left the building and walked out into the airport parking lot.

"Where do we-" Kallan began to ask, but then was cut off by Raidah walking briskly past her.

"Just follow me."

They headed to a silver minivan parked at the edge of the lot.

"This one's ours," Raidah stated. "I wish they would pick something more stylish than this, but it'll do."

"And...who brought this car here, exactly?"

Raidah ignored her and pulled a set of keys out her purse.

"Hop in," she said. "We've got a while time to drive."

Several hours later, they were driving through an up-class neighborhood. The houses were huge, with immaculately done yards and expensive cars parked in the driveways.

"What're we doing here?" Kallan asked.

"We'll be staying here during our trip."

"Here?" Kallan exclaimed.

"Yes," Raidah replied. "Does that surprise you?"

"Well it's just... the car, and now this fancy house. How do you have all this stuff out here?"

Raidah smiled. "I have connections. And this isn't the first time I've been out here. I've been purchasing property around the world from the various places I've visited."

"How'd you get money?"

"It's simple enough once you figure it out," she said with a shrug. "I'm afraid I can't tell you though."

"Oh. Well, how did the car get to the airport parking lot?" Kallan asked. Raidah was being too much of a mystery, she wanted answers.

"Like I said, we have connections." After that she said nothing more until she pulled into the driveway of one of the huge houses. This one had a fountain in the front yard, surrounded by a bed of flowers.

"This is it," she announced.

They exited the car and walked up the steps to the front door. The first thing Kallan noticed about it that made it different from the other houses was the Ancient Primum symbols engraved around the doorframe.

"Raidah? Isn't that...?" Kallan pointed to the symbol of a white and gray circle on the door, and the one on her cheek that was exactly the same.
