Chapter 4 - The Underground (Part 1)
"Uh, (Y/N), why do you keep looking at your phone?" Mikasa asked curiously.
I put my phone into my back pocket, shaking my head. "It's nothing."
I'm waiting on another phone call from that mysterious number.
It would make sense for me to block it, but it seems like that person knows too much. A little too much.
Levi walked towards the couch, then sat down and folded his arms across his chest. "Let me ask you again. Why the hell are you here?"
"Don't get so happy. I'm not here for you. I'm only here because I-" Mikasa nudged me before I could finish my sentence. I stared at her.
"I'm only here because we need to find Eren." I looked back at Levi. "Apparently he's been involved with some type of gang business and gotten himself kidnapped."
He raised an eyebrow. "And why are you telling me this information? I have no use for it."
Mikasa decided to speak up. "Isabel here had told us that the two of you were in the same gang, which is known by 'The Silent Killers', am I correct?"
Levi clicked his tongue. "I'm not going to deny it, but I'm not confirming it either."
Levi looked over at Farlan. "What the hell happened to you?"
"I only fell-"
"Bullshit. There's no way that you could've gotten injured like that by falling. Who'd you get shot by?"
Farlan kept silent for a moment, as if he was trying to find the right words to say. "I don't remember since it happened so quickly, but I do remember looking at a pair of (e/c) eyes while laying on the ground."
Isabel quickly looked over at me.
"Farlan." Isabel called her friend, and he turned to look at her. She nodded her head in my direction, then he looked at me.
He shook his head. "It couldn't be her, Izzy. It could just be a coincidence that her eyes match...the ones I...described..." His voice trailed off as continued to stare at me, as if he forgot what he was going to say.
"So you think I was the one who shot you?" I gave him a weird look. "I can barely make a shot in basketball, so what makes you think that I'd be able to shoot at you?"
"Look, I know what I saw!"
"Why did you get shot at anyway?" Farlan turned to look at Levi for a second, then he turned his head away from his gaze.
"It's nothing. Just leave it alone."
"Farlan, we need to know! Why di-"
Isabel got cut off by Farlan.
"Why the hell are the both of you always in my business? I can take care of myself! I'm tired of you two questioning me all the time!" He looked at her angrily.
Isabel looked at him with a hint of sadness. "We're just worried about you.."
"Don't be. I can take care of myself." And then he ran upstairs.
Isabel was about to go after Farlan, but she was stopped by Levi.
"Just leave him alone for a while. When he's ready, he'll come back."
She pouted a bit, then sighed. "Fine."
"If the both of you are done with that," Mikasa said while fiddling with her black scarf that was around her neck, "we need to find out where Eren is. And quickly. I don't need anything happening to him."
"Look, whatever happened to him, I don't know the details, so I can't help you with shit." Levi glared at me after saying that, and I gladly returned one.
"Fine, we don't need you anyway. (Y/N) and I will find him ourselves."
"We are?" I gave her a weird look.
"Yes. We are going to find him, even if it means it'll take weeks."
"But we don't have weeks! He might end up dead in one week, so our time is limited." She stared at me for a few seconds, then grabbed my hand.
"We should probably start searching for him then." Mikasa started walking to the door, but before she opened it, she turned around to say one last thing to Levi.
"You better watch your back."
"You might want to watch out for yours." He glared at her while we started to walk.
"Bye Mika! Bye (Y/N)! I hope we can see each other soon!" I heard Isabel shout as we walk away.
Mikasa kept holding my hand as we walked down the street farther from Levi's house, but I eventually pulled away.
"Why do you keep dragging me everywhere? I'm not a damn dog."
She sighed. "I'm just trying to keep you with me so that you don't get lost."
"If I did get lost, I have my phone with me."
"Let's say you didn't have your phone with and you did manage to get lost. What would you do then?"
"Ask someone for help, obviously."
"But you can't always trust the people out here."
I rolled my eyes. "You're too cautious of everything. Just live a little!"
"The last time I did that, I almost got myself killed." Mikasa moved a piece of her hair to cover her face.
"Then maybe you shouldn't do stupid shit that involves injuring yourself." I said.
"It wasn't even my idea to do a rescue misson in the first place, so I couldn't do anything about it."
Mikasa stopped to look at me.
"And don't say anything else until we get back to my place. I'm not in the mood to hold a conversation."
I raised an eyebrow at her. "Why the hell are you always acting like this?"
She was about to pull out the knife from her pocket and hold it towards my throat again, but I managed to grab her hand that was holding the knife, then make her fall onto the ground by tripping her.
"So you're improving? I like that." She smirked at me.
I rolled my eyes, then helped her up.
"Oh yeah, I meant to ask this when we left, but what did you mean by 'watch your back' when you were talking to Levi?"
She shook her head. "Don't worry about that. Just know that he has something coming for him."
I look at Mikasa confused, but I continued to walk alongside her towards her home.
I understand that she hates him because he turned me against her, Eren, and Armin, but it seems like it's more to this weird situation.
Nah, maybe I'm just overthinking things.
When we got upstairs to her room, we started to talk about how we could rescue Eren.
"Wait, while we're coming up with all of these ideas, where is he even located at?"
"They have this one secret hideout, but it's underground. Basically, there's another city under this one. The government just decided to make this one better."
"And how do you know this?"
"I've been down there before. I needed to get money since I was having trouble getting a job in the past five months, so I went to someone I knew. With no hesitation, they gave me the money, but I didn't know that I was supposed to pay them back for it. He has people looking for me so that I can give him back his money, but there's no way in hell that I'm going to do that, so I stay away from that place now."
"Wow. So, are you sure that you want to go down there? I just don't need for one of my friends that I just recently gained back get kidnapped as well."
She nodded her head. "We need to save Eren, and I know where he's at, so you'll need me. Plus, you'll never know what kind of people you'll run into down there, so you might want to bring a weapon."
I pull out the hand gun that I was going to shoot Farlan with, and inspected it. Mikasa handed me some more ammo and I put it in my back pocket.
"When are we going down to that underground city anyway?"
"Tonight."
My eyes widen. "Tonight? Why so early?"
"Like you said, the time that we can find Eren is limited, so the sooner we can get to him, the better."
I nodded my head.
"Well what are we waiting for? C'mon!"
She gave me a small smile.
"Let's go get Eren back."
+++++
It was around 8 o'clock pm now, and there was barely anyone out on the streets, which was both a good and bad thing.
Mikasa led me down another alleyway, and while walking, I was hoping that this rescue mission would turn out smoothly.
She told me that I needed to dress in black, just so that we could blend in with the people of the underground.
I didn't question it, so I had on my black hoodie with a pair of black skinny jeans with my black converses. Mikasa basically was wearing the same thing, except she was wearing boots. I also noticed that Mikasa was still wearing that black scarf that Eren gave her about three years ago.
"(Y/N), are you okay?"
I had started spacing out while looking at her, but I eventually zoned back in.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Let's get going."
Eventually, we arrived to a train station that was located downtown.
"I thought you said we were going underground. Why are we at this abandoned train station?"
"It's a secret passageway." Mikasa turned around to look at me.
"It's been shut down for over 15 years now, but it's mostly used to get in and out of the underground. Most of those people could get out if they wanted to, but they don't have enough money or the strength to make it out here." She started walking again.
"Wait, you said this has been shut down. Why?"
Mikasa instantly shook her head, as if she was reminded of something that happened. "You don't need to worry about that. Just come on."
Hesitantly, I followed her, and we walked down the tunnel.
She stopped me from walking, then pointed at the wall across from us.
"Why the fuck are we standing in front of a brick wall? If I wanted to do that, I would've stayed at home and stood in front of my mom all day, because she doesn't listen for shit."
"(Y/N), this is the passage way to the Underground. It's just past this wall."
Mikasa pounded on the wall with her hand, then kicked it with her right foot.
Nothing happened at first, but then we heard a rumbling sound, which came from the wall opening up.
She went inside, and I quickly followed after.
I pulled my hood over my head, since it got a bit chilly when we walked inside. And five seconds after walking in, I heard a slam, which must've been the wall closing.
At the end of the tunnel, there was light.
It wasn't very bright, but it did make my eyes hurt.
Before we was able to make it out of the tunnel, there was this random guy standing there.
The first thing I noticed about him was his eyebrows. They look like they would crawl off of his face at any second.
"Well look what we have here! Scarlet. I see you brought your friend back with you. It's been a while." He gave her a smirk.
Mikasa rolled her eyes at him. "Whatever. Look, we're just down here to get one of our friends, so we don't need for you to interfere with anything."
"I thought you already save the redhead. Did one of these stupid traffickers get to her again?"
"It's not her Eyebrows, geez. Just-" She placed one of her hands on top of her forehead. "Just stay out of it. I don't have time to beat your ass today for interfering with things."
The guy with the oversized eyebrows chuckled.
"Fine. I won't get involved this time. I'm happy to see you again though. Oh, and don't forget, the boss is still waiting for his money!" He smirked at her again.
Mikasa walked away, ignoring him.
Not wanting to be left alone with him, I followed behind, still having my hood up.
"Okay, who was that, and why was he calling you 'Scarlet'?" I decided to ask her after I was certain that we were far away enough from him.
"You don't need to worry about him, since all he likes to do is fuck up everything for people. And it's only because of this scar below my right eye."
She pointed to the scar, but it was healed up now.
"How did you get it?"
"Nothing major. I got into a fight with someone and they managed to cut me with the knife that they had."
She kept avoiding my eyes when she spoke, so I knew she was lying.
"I guess so." I sighed out of frustration. "Anyway, where are we going now?"
"There's this one place that I had went to the last time I was down here, and I know the person that owns the establishment, so we can see if they saw anything."
I nodded my head in agreement, then followed her down the streets of the Underground.
As we were walking, I noticed that many people were covered in scars, tattoos, and some people didn't have proper clothing. I only saw a small percentage of people that were wearing black.
What was the purpose of me wearing this if I'm not blending in?
But the weird thing was that it seemed like some of the people were afraid of the both of us.
I tried smiling at a girl that had light brown eyes, but all she did was look at me like she was surprised.
I don't even know her, so why is she looking at me like that?
I raised an eyebrow at her, but I got over it.
Before I knew it, we were standing in front of a bar called "Annie's", and it was surprisingly decent looking, unlike most of the buildings down here.
I walked in after Mikasa, and she walked towards a chick with long blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Oh, hey Scarlet! I thought you said you weren't coming back here?"
"I wasn't planning on it, but I have someone I need to save. Do you know anything about someone being kidnapped in the last 24 hours?"
She thought for a moment, and her eyes got wide, buy they went back to original size. "Nope. I haven't heard or seen anything."
"You're lying to me, Christa. I can tell." Mikasa sighed. "Well take me to Annie, maybe she knows something."
"I would, but she's not here."
"Where the hell did she go? You told me she would be here!"
Christa flinched a bit. "L-Look! Everything happened so quickly, so I didn't get a chance to see where she was going! All she told me is to look after the place while she was gone, so that's what I'm doing. I'm being honest here!" Her voice was changing tone a lot, as if she was intimidated by Mikasa.
She gave Christa a look as if she was uncertain about her answer, but she ended up fiddeling with her scarf while staring at her.
"Fine. We'll be back."
We were about to leave, but Christa stopped us.
"Wait! Scarlet...who's that with you?"
"Oh! Um.."
She pulled down my hood.
"Hey! It's cold down here, ya know. I'm trying to keep warm."
"Hold on. Is that...Shadow? As in the legendary Shadow of the Underground?"
I looked at her, confused.
"What do you mean 'Shadow?' As in my shadow that's on the ground? Because I don't think you can really see it-"
"No, that's not what I meant." She looked at Mikasa. "What happened to her?"
"Memory loss. She got in a car crash and was unconscious for six months."
Christa looked back at me. "So...you really don't remember?"
"Obviously, I don't."
She went behind the counter of the bar, and started to make us a few drinks. "Since we're going to be here a while, you both might as well make yourselves comfortable. And for you." She pointed at me. "There's a lot I need for you to know, so you might need a few shots after this."

Oh. My. God.
I deeply apologize for not updating!
I had writer's block for a while, and school had recently started back for me (I started August 17th), so I forgot all about it.
But I promise that I will be publishing the next chapter either next week, or the week after.
Thank you all so much for being patient! I appreciate it.
