Dancing in the Rain- JILY
"James, why are we here?" Lily demanded while she was being pulled along by James. Just a day ago, she had gotten a letter from her sister talking about her wedding and how she despised the idea of Lily being there but she had to come. This was the first letter Lily ever got from her sister and it just had to be that.
"Lily, trust me." James didn't turn back to face her but from what Lily could tell, they were going off school grounds.
"We're going to get caught and I'm not in the mood." Lily felt crumpled inside, but grateful that she was escaping the school.
"You need some cheering up." James stopped at a nice little clearing on a cliff.
"How did we get here?" She whipped her head around to look at everything. A nice little blanket was layed across the floor and a basket was sitting on top.
"By walking. But I get what you mean, we walked for very long." James was honestly quite surprised that Lily came with him in the first place seeing as she still hated him. Okay, maybe not hated him but she certainly didn't love him.
"I swear this isn't a date, it's just to cheer you up. " James reassured the girl who was now glaring at him. Up in the sky, the moon hung like an orb, granting the earth a small amount of light.
"I- thanks and all, but we're going to get caught." Lily repeated. She could not risk getting caught as she was Head Girl and although James was Head Boy, it was in his nature to get detentions.
"Nah, we won't. I've brought my cloak in case we really need it." James brushed it off as if it was nothing. He had recently shown Lily his cloak due to her being anxious one night about him sneaking off. She sat down onthe checked blanket amd replied,
"Fine, but if we do somehow get caught, all your fault."
"Deal. Minnie has a soft spot for me anyway, so detention might just have to sit with Filch for a week." James shrugs as if one week was nothing. Stupid. Very cautiously, James sat down beside Lily.
"Nice chicken." Lily says after tearing a piece off with her teeth. Then she remembered something. That was the last thing Petunia said to her before she found out she was a "freak". I know, I know, it's a random thing to say, but before Lily left for Hogwarts, she loved cooking.
"Why are you in such a strop, Lily?" James asks rather carelessly. Oh, that didn't hurt at all! Saying she was in a strop after realising that her own sister didn't want her at her wedding!
"I'd much rather you didn't call my hurt a "strop"." Lily glared at the boys who blushed furiously.
"I didn't- wait, I didn't mean it like- sorry." At James' stuttering, Lily couldn't help but feel a bit lighter inside.
"It's fine."
"Why are you so hurt then Lily?" James asks after taking a bite of a sandwich.
"My sister hates me." In all honesty, she didn't know why she was telling him this. Surely he didn't really care.
"I don't believe that. You're unhateable." James takes a swig of Butterbeer.
"When your own sister calls you a freak every summer she surely doesn't hate you. Pfft, yeah, obviously."
"It was after breakfast, so did you get a letter from her or something?" Lily doesn't reply and James knows better than to push it on. He'll get to it later. They sit and talk for a couple of hours when they decide to do something different.
"Hey, I have one of those muggle music producers. We could turn that on." James suggests.
"God, you just complicated it way too much. Just call it a radio or something." Lily laughs. James starts to fiddle with the little buttons and knobs until he hears music play.
"Will you, Lily I-Don't-Know-What-Your-Middle-Name-Is Evans, please take this dance with me?" James offers his arm to the girl like the gentleman he is. Oh, how proud his mother would be!
"You may, James I-Also-Don't-Know-What-Your-Middle-Name-Is Potter." Rain started to drip down on to the ground, it was
good that the food was all finished and the radio had a charm on it. It started off all innocent and jokey, but as the minutes passed, it started to get more real and slow. More romantic I guess you could say.
"My sister doesn't want me at her wedding." Lily mumbled into James' chest.
"Sometimes Lily, people don't realise that the best thing they want, is right in front of them. Your sister doesn't realise that she has an amazing sister." James tipped Lily's chin up so she was looking at him.
"I can't be an amazing sister if she hates me." Lily breathes. For so long, she had tried to make her sister see her as a normal person, but she couldn't, "It's because I'm not normal."
"Who wants to be normal? Where's the fun in that? Being different is what makes you a person, Lily. And I'm assuming that your sister doesn't like you because you're a witch. I'm right, aren't I?"
"How are you so good at family drama?" Lily sniffled. James was correct and she was sure he knew it.
"I have Sirius as a best friend. I'm bound to be good at it." James chuckled, but it wasn't exactly a humorous chuckle.
"How can I change?" Lily questioned quietly.
"Don't change. No need. She just has to learn to love you the way you are. Just like everyone else does." James said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Don't say it like it was the most obvious thing in the world."
"Anything for you my queen." James jokes as he bows low.
"Don't push it." For another 2 hours, they dance and dance, the occasional conversation peeking in. After a particularly long silence and more rain lashing down, Lily offers a piece of information.
"By the way, Potter, it's Marie."
