Reckless | Chapter Seven
“Angry. Confused. Lost. Demon!" Cole shouts. Josephine takes Cole by the shoulders and takes him away from the danger zone. Cullen and the soldiers gathered people outside of the main hall and into another part of the castle. They went down below where there were incredible paintings hidden in the underbelly of the fortress. While the people of Skyhold were being hidden away from the demon inside of Ozen, Dorian was praying to any god that would listen to him. He wanted to put his hands on Ozen and use a spell to send him flying back. He also didn't want to hurt him.
"Ozen fight it!" Alister called out, "Someone go get Morrigan! She's in the garden!"
"Shemlen!"
"Ozen please..." Dorian never thought Ozen had so much anger towards humans, or maybe it was a part of his ancestry. The demon was bringing the worst out in him and it was making Dorian fear him. Dorian knew that he shouldn't, and the demon lives off of fear. Dorian stood there with a blade pressed against his throat trying his hardest to keep his emotions intact and under control. He reminded himself over and over again that it wasn’t Ozen speaking but a demon that was attached to him. Dorian just happened to be close to Ozen and a human.
"All shemlen need to die!" He growled through his teeth.
"What do you want demon?" Alister called out. Dorian didn't want to look into Ozen’s eyes anymore. Those weird beautiful colored eyes he always got lost in were not there anymore. Instead, they were bright red like dragon scales. They were being ingrained into Dorian’s mind.
"Don't you know?" The demon laughed, pressing the knife tighter against Dorian's throat, "he sold his soul to me."
Dorian blinked, wanting to talk but was caught by the sudden stinging sensation of the blade cutting the skin of his throat. He swore to himself, regretting his choice. He put his hands on Ozen's chest, muttering an apology to Ozen. Dorian sent a shockwave through him. Ozen suddenly flew back, colliding with the ground. Alister rushed up the stairs to Dorian's side. With a quick glance, Alister knew that Dorian was going to be fine.
"What happened?" Morrigan questioned, her staff ready.
"Remember the Arl's son?"
"Again?"
"Looks like it." Alister didn't like it the first time. Now he has to go through it a second time. He was thankful that Morrigan was there with him though. Without her, they would have to kill the Inquisitor which was not the option. Not with everything on the line. Morrigan and Alister never forgot that night. A desire demon was put into a child. Someone innocent wanting to save his father. They were thankful that the Grey Warden was so sparring. What they didn't like was how they needed to wait until Ozen was back to himself again, just to make it easier on them.
"Amutus!" Dorian called out. Morrigan snapped her attention to the hallway. Ozen was getting to his feet, shaking his head in confusion.
"Morrigan..." Alister had worry shaking his voice.
"Protect me."
Solas witnessed what Morrigan was doing. She was slipping into the Fade. That is how they will kill the demon. Solas muttered a protection spell and placed it over Morrigan, all the while Alister stood next to Dorian.
"Where is everyone?" Ozen's voice echoed in the empty hallway. He looked around, dazed. He was hurting, his head pounding. He wasn't feeling himself. He noticed Dorian running down the hallway looking panicked. Ozen slowly walked towards him, the anchor was beginning to make his hand throb.
"What did you do, Ozen." Dorian put his hands on his shoulders, demanding Ozen's attention. Ozen frowned, tilting his head in confusion. Alister came up beside Ozen and Dorian.
"You made a deal with a demon. You had to have."
"I... It's not what it seems." Ozen panicked, "Is that… is what's happening? There's a demon?"
"What do you mean?" Dorian asked.
Ozen rubbed the back of his neck, scared out of his mind. He was younger at the time, and always worried. He worked his way to being a hunter but even then he wasn't like the others in his clan. He wasn't good with a bow. He attacked with daggers only. He had fallen in love with a woman in his clan. Now that he had become a hunter, women were looking to have a husband. He fell in love with a girl named Arwin. She was the most beautiful creature in the clan. She was a little older than he was. He was proud to be a hunter. Now that he was he could provide for him and Arwin. He asked for her hand in the ceremony. She gladly accepted. They were going to be happy together.
Until the day she was taken from the clan.
It was days before the ceremony. He had woken up and he was going to go see her. They were going to leave into the forest to gather berries. He had assumed that she had left early without him. He didn't think anything of it. He gathered his two daggers and went into the woods looking for his beloved. As he walked, he picked berries as he went. Happy. Content. The morning air was brisk. The leaves had the morning dew on them, adding to the beauty of the forest. The sun was rising above the treeline, letting the leaves shimmer in all their glory. A strange sound jolted Ozen.
He was lost in this memory, one that was about to turn dark and violent. Dorian noticed this, a darkness was beginning to cloud over him. Out of instinct, Alister went behind Ozen and brought his arms behind him. He pinned him behind, praying that Morrigan was fast in this. Dorian cupped Ozen's face, trying his best not to let the tears fall. Dorian was starting to hate how this world was coming to.
"I don't want to lose you," Dorian whispered. Dorian leaned in, knowing that if he did this it could be his final moment. The air around them was growing cold. Everyone could sense the fear demon in the room. Alister stood behind Ozen, keeping as much strength as he could both physically and mentally. Dorian put his forehead to Ozen's, whispering an elven phrase that Ozen had taught him months ago.
"Ar lath ma, vhenan,"
Time stood still for a moment. Ozen couldn't control much of anything anything longer. Whatever was inside of him was now running rampant in his mind. He felt so much anger towards the woman he used to love. Finding her deep in the forest with a human. He watched her be murdered in front of his eyes. She was stabbed over and over again, the human having his pants around his ankles. Once she was slaughtered, the man pulled up his pants and ran off into the forest. Ozen ran to his beloved, screaming for her.
He held her dead body in his hands.
Just like with Lilly.
"Die, shemlen."
Alister flew back as the demon exerted its power from Ozen's body. It lunged forward, knocking Dorian to the ground. In a swift movement, Dorian felt a blade in his gut. He gasped, looking into the eyes of the man he loved. Ozen wasn't there anymore. Instead, a monster took over. Ozen had made a deal with a demon, what the deal was Dorian didn't know.
Dorian felt the warmth of blood and the shooting pain when the demon twisted the blade. The ice-cold room started to shift. Solas shouted something, Dorian blinking his eyes. His mind was blank. Dorian didn't want to die by a demon possessing his lover. Dorian could hear more screaming in the distance. The snarling demon leaped over him, another dagger in hand. He tried to mutter a spell under his breath but the overwhelming pain and thoughts were too much for his body to handle.

Alister fumbled to his feet, watching the demon-possessed Ozen lunge towards Morrigan. He gathered the little strength he had, grabbing his sword that was on the floor next to him. Alister charged forward, noticing Dorian bleeding on the floor. He swore under his breath, running past Morrigan who was muttering under her breath. Solas was focused on the spell he had to protect Morrigan. Bull was now fighting Ozen. Ozen was fast, the skills of an Assassin were apparent. Alister didn't know what to do. Fighting the demon from the child back at Radcliffe didn't seem as difficult as it was right now. He was glad the child survived but he had his hopes low for Ozen.
"Look out!" Bull hollered. In a flash, Ozen was standing in front of Alister, a bloody dagger to Alister's throat. The man was gone, his eyes were now pure black, and his teeth were gritted with blood dripping from his mouth. Alister froze, trying to keep his mind focused on other things and remain strong. He couldn't show fear. Any moment now Ozen could come back. Morrigan would have killed the demon and things would be back to the way things were.
Ozen hissed under his breath, cursing Alister for being a human.
"Ozen come back to us. This isn't you."
"Ozen is gone." The demon hissed.
"Any day now, Morrigan!" Alister called out. Ozen put a blade to Alister's throat, muttering more elven words. Alister began to pray under his breath. Alister brought his sword up to Ozen, bringing it to his side. Ozen howled in pain, dropping the dagger from his throat. Ozen stumbled back. Alister took his sword from Ozen's side, bringing the point of the sword to Ozen's throat. Alister glared at the elf who now had his hands to his side. He was back to himself now. The sudden looming darkness had fled. The chill in the air was gone. Morrigan had fallen to her knees in exhaustion. It was all over now. Alister couldn't help but think of how worse this would have gotten. He was starting to grow a little bit of hatred towards magic. Then again, without magic or the Fade, Ozen would have been lost forever and all humans on Skyhold would have been dead. Alister wondered what kind of deal Ozen would have made to get a pissed-off demon to possess him.
"Shows over," Alister called out.
With the help of Bull, they were able to bring Dorian to the infirmary for medical attention. Alister brought Ozen down to the cells near the bottom of Skyhold. He asked Solas to attend to his wounds and keep him here until further notice. Once Alister gave word to Cullen on the safety of Skyhold, things started to go back to the way they were.

Morrigan was dazed. This demon was stronger than the demon desired demon in Arl's son. She was glad that Ozen lived but she was worried about what had happened to him in the past to go such great lengths to make a deal with a vengeance demon. She sat in the garden, sipping her hot tea, cupping her hands around the cup letting them get warmer. Ozen wasn't going to remember much when he came to. Keeping him locked away for now was something Morrigan couldn't agree more with. She wasn't sure if a demon that strong would be coming back.
She thought about how she could find the blood mage who performed this deal with Ozen. She didn't know much about himself and where his clan originated from. There were many questions that needed to be answered. She was just happy that the demon was gone for now. They could move on and investigate further into this situation. Morrigan brought the cup to her lips, looking to the distance, and saw Alister come from a door from within the castle. They briefly met with eye contact. Alister rubbed the back of his neck, looking frustrated but also calm. He made strides towards her. Morrigan stayed sitting on the stone bench. She was too weak to greet him formally. Since their time with the Blight and fighting alongside Legalis, The Hero of Fereldon, they have become better friends.
"Is everything alright?" Morrigan questioned. Alister took a seat next to her. She, for once, didn't mind his company. Alister, years ago, was annoying, to say the least. But after fighting Darkspawn, finding out his heritage, and becoming leader of the Grey Wardens, he had changed.
"Ozen is locked up. Dorian is going to be fine just sore. I just... don't understand why people make deals with blood mages."
"They need help and don't know where else to go. Remember that boy? All he wanted to do was help his father." Morrigan took a sip of her tea.
Alister sighed, "I never thought I'd have to deal with it again."
"Oh?" She asked.
"If I am going to be honest..." Alister cleared his throat, "I thought I was going to lose you."
Morrigan spat her tea. She was not expecting anything like that. Alister looked at Morrigan funny.
"What?! You are my friend Morrigan. Nothing like that." Alister shook his head. Granted, that night he spent with her to complete the ritual was something he thought of often. Admitting to himself that there was some type of connection between them. When he first arrived here, he was able to meet his son. It was an overwhelming moment of time. Alister noticed how much he had changed her. Morrigan being a mother was beautiful, Alister couldn't deny it.
"I'm not sure what to say to that." Morrigan coughed, attempting to clear her throat.
"You were in the Fade longer than before."
"'Tis a stronger demon than Desire. This one was Vengeance. We are very lucky Dorian didn't die. "
"What would have happened?"
"He would have taken vengeance on the wrong men. He would keep killing any human male he came into contact with until the deed was done."
"That's..." Alister didn't know what else to say to that. Ozen must have really loved someone to sell himself to such a powerful creature. For a moment, Alister and Morrigan sat there lost in their thoughts. Enjoying the peace that neither of them seems to get much anymore. Morrigan set her cup down next to her. Alister had set his hand down on the bench. When their hands touched, Alister never moved his. Morrigan looked at her hand and back up to Alister. For a moment, even if it was brief, Morrigan interlocked her fingers with his. Happy that she got to see him once more.
