06. duplicity by athifa!

hi novagguk!
your recipe is ready to use!

<3

(ohmygod i'm so sorry in advance if this review sucks aaah i know i asked you bout it a lot aaksksk but i'm still like half-confused which explains why some of my points may sound unreasonable to you but let's just go w it huhu)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS!

title! (4/5)

-it isn't a bad title at all, i don't even know why i feel a little odd about it. it seems to fit your story well though!

cover! (5/5)

-your cover is very aesthetic and pretty!

description! (8/10)

-so um i got two results when i clicked on your book's description and was kinda bewildered but eh oh well lmaoo

-actually, i think combining both would look good? i personally like descriptions with both a dialogue and a brief explanation below it. it's completely up to you though but in my opinion, having those two sections in your description will give your reader just enough information before jumping right into your book.

WRITING STYLE!

grammar! (16/20)

-your writing style is outstanding! i love the way you write aaaaah it's really admirable, to be honest and i applaud you for that!

-below are just some minor errors that i've found while reading:

-always place a punctuation mark after adverbs like yes or no. it depends on its subsequent phrase or sentence that follows that adverb. should you put a period or a comma?

-here's a more detailed explanation from online:

-so it says that you use a comma if the words after yes or no "relate" to those adverbs.

ex. did you eat the last slice of cake?
yes, i did eat it.
ex. can you come to my house tomorrow?
no, i can't come.

-and insert a period if what follows yes or no are just extra information.

-in your case, you didn't put any punctuation mark whatsoever. i think that a period would be the most suitable for your sentence because what's after it is, just as i said, extra information.

-use a comma to separate run-on sentences and make sure to check whether a pair of words require a hyphen between them.

-i don't understand the 'coupled sighed' thing because coupled is an adjective while sighed is a verb. i'm pretty sure this is just a typo and it's supposed to be 'couple' if i'm not mistaken.

-just more minor mistakes with commas. if you get confused, feel free to go to google for help about when to apply commas when writing.

-'you're' means you are while 'your' is a possessive adjective.
ex. you're reading a book.
this is your book.

-same with the eyebrow's thing, what you typed means 'eyebrow is' and i think both you and i know that it's probably just a typo like before.

-if adding a comma will still make a group of sentences sound awkward, you can squeeze in a conjunction between the two sentences.

-since your book is written in past tense, every verb should be in that tense. exceptions to flashbacks and dialogues though. the past tense of 'lay' is 'laid' which is why i changed it.

-if you get confused with prepositions as well, google will be your friend!

summary of everything:

-insert punctuation marks when necessary and vice versa.

-be careful with your typos, the easiest way to fix it is by proofreading your book.

-though mistakes on this section rarely happens, still make sure that your story is written in one tense only.

-if you happen to come across any sort of confusion with grammar, again, google will be such a close friend of yours lmaoo

-also, i really love how you describe things and like narrate your characters' actions! it's honestly very fascinating wow

diction! (10/10)

-just like your writing style, your choice of diction is great too! there's nothing wrong with it and i think it's perfectly balanced between simple and complex words.

editing! (3/5)

-it's mostly because of your typos like 'your' and 'eyebrow's'. yeah, i deducted two points out of five because your book only has five chapters and y'know, two errors sound like 'a lot'. whoops idek what i'm saying but yeah :)

STORY DYNAMICS!

plot! (10/20)

-aaah i'm sorry for giving you such a low score, this is probably because of my perplexity with your book's ending whoops. please don't take this the wrong way, i liked how your book started and its following events but i just don't understand what its connection with a geranium is and what happened in the end.

-i would love to give you a high score for this section but i just can't aaaah

flow! (10/10)

-i mean, i can't really say a lot of things because your book has only 5 chapters but i think that besides that, the happenings moved smoothly from the middle of the day to the end.

characters! (8/10)

-again, i don't really have a lot to judge but i kind of like taehyung's realistic personality, same with the artist even though he was only mentioned briefly. taehyung seems like a person from the real world and the artist as well.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE!

satisfaction! (6/10)

-waaah here we go again, i wasn't that satisfied because of the ending. i did expect a mystery au because that's what it said in the description and certainly did not expect what i received.

-nonono, i'm not saying it's below my expectations but what i mean is that my misunderstanding with how your book ended is the cause of such low scores and bewilderment. i hope you don't get offended aaah i do understand if you do feel upset and i wanted to apologize for that ashdksks

addictiveness! (4/5)

-pretty addictive if i do say so myself, i removed one point because your book is a short story and i am in need of more chapters lmaoo :>

overall thoughts! (85/110)

-your book was beautifully and realistically written! i really adore your writing style as well as your vocabulary!

-but! whooz i feel like i'm repeating this again but maybe somehow add an explanation chapter? i do know that there's a possibility that it will ruin the ending's vagueness but i personally think that this will help perplexed readers like me. welp if there are some lmao

-i think that might help somehow? other than that, quickly proofreading your book will do the trick in improving its quality!

-thank you so much for requesting! have a delightful day ahead, athifa!
