Chapter 11: Meet Veer, my new friend

And all the water falls on a man wearing a suit!

Oh no, this might be the end of my life. What if it's Aarav's dad and he gets angry seeing me? If he is angry, will he allow Aarav to date  me? Shit, what am I thinking in this situation. First I've got to help him out. All the while, the pipe was still throwing water on to him.

I immediately throw the pipe away and run towards him.

"Are you okay uncle?", I ask him with concern written all over my face.

He looks at me with a stern expression, without answering me, removes his  black framed spectacles. His blue suit was all drenched from the water and was sticking at odd places, which I will not mention for the sake of children here. His blue tie was completely adhered to his white shirt, which was almost transparent by now.

Then, he put the brief case beside him, on the ground, and took off his coat. Oh My God! Was he so angry with me that he didn't know what he was doing and was giving us a strip show?! He then threw the coat aside, still with that furious appearance, and the coat fell on the other side of the car. How did I even miss the sound of that car's engine? Only God knows.

He then takes off his shoes and socks and kicks them apart with his bare legs. Oh My God, they were the latest edition of Hush Puppies, which they haven't even released in India yet! Will he ask me to pay for them? I've got no money, God please save me. If you get me out of this situation, I swear that I will take Freddy to a walk daily.

With his eyebrows raised, and a frown etched upon his face, he looked so comical that I would have laughed my ass off if any other one was in my shoes. See, I'm still thinking about those stinking rich shoes. I look at Aarav and Tasha to see that their mouths were hanging open way too much, even for a hippopotamus to fit in. 'Now's not the time for sarcasm and jokes Amaira', my conscience warns. I mock salute in my head and the hit myself for being sarcastic again. See, that's the point. I can't live without being sarcastic even for an hour.

I turn to my front and see the mysterious visitor rolling his sleeves up and loosening his tie. I turn to my back again to ask for some help. And then, something implausible happens! I was hit with water!

What the hell? I turn around to see the uncle laughing his ass off, falling to the ground with the water pipe still intact in his hand.

My brain sums up the situation and declares, 'That man has messed with you Amaira. I can't live any further with this embarrassment. I'm going to jump into the puddle of water and die'.

My conscience mocks my brain casually as if picking up the dust in finger nails, 'There's no water in here. There's only blood. Oh wait, you also have the Hydrochloric acid',  with a creepy voice at the last.

My brain visibly shudders and that brings me out of my reverie. I see the uncle still rolling on the floor, saying,"It's so funny, so so funny". I turn back and see Tasha clinging on to Aarav like a monkey and they both were laughing their asses off. Turning red in embarrassment, I think of hiding myself in the deepest corner of Earth. Since it's not technically possible, I stay there, looking down, pressing my lips into a thin line, closing my eyes and rubbing my hands together.

After a while I look up and see uncle going to clutch his stomach with his hand, maybe due to the pain resulting from laughing. I try warning him,"Uncle!", but it's too late and BOOM! Yeah, you guessed right, all the water from the pipe were floating on his shirt, some even settling on his belly button.

Now it was my turn to laugh. I doubled up seeing him in that state and Aarav comes running to me. I try to give him a hi-fi but he lifts me up by my butt screaming,"Yay dad, serves right for you." And he runs crazily around the entire garden, with me still hanging on to him. I look around and see Tasha getting up from the ground, rubbing her butt. Maybe Aarav threw her down. Laughing at the situation, I take in a breath of the air, feeling very refreshed. It was a crazy day, spending time with Aarav was the most memorable moment.

Aarav comes to a stop after some time and lets me down slowly. Our clothes were all wet and the sun was just setting down.

'Perfect time for a romantic kiss', my conscience tells me.

When we come face to face, I bravely go forward and kiss him. Yeah, kiss him. I never expected to do that too. At first he's in a shock but then responds and starts kissing me fervently. I throw my hands around his neck and kiss him like there's no tomorrow. All the pent-up feelings start coming out as our kissing intensity increases. He takes me to a wall, allows my back to rest against it, and I wrap my legs around his waist.

He lifts my head up and starts placing kisses along my neckline. This is the best feeling I've ever experienced. I moan and move my hands through his hair. With the mixed sensation of tingling and love, I was deeply immersed in our world until I hear clearing of throats.

Will throats have to be cleared while kissing? No, right? Oh my idiot brain, there are Aarav's dad and his sister still present.

'I thought they were dead', is my stupid brain's comeback.

'That's why you're the biggest idiot, named as brain', my conscience mocks.

Before their fight can go into blows, I stop Aarav by pushing him away. He removes my hands and comes at me again. I say,"There are still your father and sister here Aarav", in a squeaky voice and move out of his way.

I close my eyes due to embarrassment again. I'm gonna die of embarrassment today. The headlines tomorrow will be like: 'Girl died of repeated mortification.'

'Did she see her face in the mirror?', my conscience mocks.

I shake it out and look at Aarav. He was also looking anywhere except me and his family. He was like 'Hey look there, beautiful scenery, birds are also beautiful and how nice this evening is.'

Then I build up my confidence, giving myself a pep talk of 'you can do it, Amaira', I look at Tasha and her father. They are both sporting huge smirks on their faces. I bet Tasha was planning on which shade of pink dress she should buy on mine and Aarav's wedding.

Finally, their father comes to me and speaks up,"Hey, I'm Veer Bhatt, pleased that I've met you."

I smile at him, with my ears tinged red, and say,"Hello uncle, I'm Amaira, Aarav's classmate and I'm glad to meet you too."

"Oh don't think of formalities, just call me Veer, and I highly doubt that you both are just classmates after that intense scene", he says with a wink.

"Daddy, you see, I totally walked on them having sex", Tasha adds.

Her dialogue set me into a coughing fit and I choke on my own saliva afterwards, and make myself a fool in front of everyone. Again.

Aarav comes to me and pats me on my back saying,"Easy there, princess."

Even in that violent cough, I couldn't miss the smirks plastered on Tasha and Veer.

Then, we all go inside and sit in the living room. Now, I understand where Aarav gets all of that pranky nature and confidence from. The house suddenly became a home due to these three. I smile to myself, thinking of how lucky must Aarav and Tasha be to be a part of this household. Most of the times, I go to an empty house, met with darkness and loneliness. Parenting is a difficult job, I get it, but you cannot use that excuse to get freedom from your responsibilities. Otherwise, being an obedient child becomes the most tough one. And yeah, I've got Freedy, but there's only an extent up to what a dog can do to meet my emotions.

Where's Aarav's mother? I didn't see her till now, which says something because I was there here for six hours.  SIX HOURS? OH MY GOD, I should hurry up home. I get up with a start and say,"I'm late, I should go home. Thanks for having me in. And Aarav, we shall complete the assignment in library tomorrow. Good night Veer and Tasha."

Tasha says,"Dad I get a feeling that she's implying something, using library as an excuse."

Aarav says,"Will you please shut up for a minute?", in a strained voice while Veer laughs.

Veer asks,"Shall I drop you off?"

I shake my head and say,"No thanks Veer", and I get out of the house, in a hurry to go home.

As I walk for five minutes, shivering in the night air due to dampness from my clothes, my mind nags that I was forgetting something. After I cross a junction, I try to pull the strap of my bag, only to find that it was missing. I hit myself on my forehead and return back to Aarav's house. It was dark by now. I should really go faster.

I reach Aarav's house, the gardener opens the gate and greets me. I greet him in return and head to the door. I knock and wait for two minutes. Then, I find that the door's open. So, I go in to the house, hoping that Veer wouldn't mind and pause on hearing some voices.

"Why didn't you come and join us Radha?", Veer asks.

"I thought that you were having a good time, I didn't want to spoil it by my presence", a melodious voice, tinged with a bit of melancholy, says.

"Yeah, you just want sympathy. Go ahead, you got it", Aarav shouts and his foot steps start fading.

"Aarav, you disgraceful butt, come back here and apologize", Tasha shouts and goes after Aarav.

Thinking of it as a too private scene, I try to go away without a sound. As you all know, Lady Luck's not on my side at all. I go and straight away hit a vase, which falls on the ground and shatters to pieces. I hit myself in the head mentally for many times and wait for my impending doom. But it doesn't come. I look around and realize that there were no one. I immediately tear a piece of paper from a book on a chair and take a pen from my pocket and scribble,'I'm sorry, the vase was broken by me. I'll completely pay for it. -With regards, Amaira.'

I hurry out of the house, thanking my lucky stars and start going home. I'll just message Aarav to bring my bag tomorrow. I walk and walk for another fifteen minutes, knocking myself in to a street lamp pole once, and reach home. But there was only one problem. There was a man outside my house, a few meters away, smoking.

I am immediately taken back to my nine year old self, who was afraid of everything. I contemplated for a few minutes whether to go or not. I didn't even have my mobile with me to call someone and ask for help. Finally I steel up myself after thinking about Freddy and go home.

I move silently, like a cat and finally reach my destination aka, the gate. Now that gate makes creepy sounds while moving. So, I decide to open the gate really fast and run into my safe haven. Every thing goes according to the plan, and I rush in to home, without even locking the gate.

And then suddenly, a raspy voice says,"There you are Amaira."

   And my heart stops beating.
