Chapter 29: Rethinking
Stella's POV
I was relieved when I learned that Devon was alive and well.
He would be scarred for life, but he'd still have all his body functions.
"Can you bring in, Devon?" I asked.
Enzo nodded and did a motion with his hand.
Dev entered, his face full of fear.
"Hello Devon," I greeted. "I'm glad to see that you've made a swift recovery."
"Thank you," Dev replied. "I wish Kirtanta was this lucky."
I sighed. "Me too," I agreed. "Do you mind telling me what happened?"
Somebody, I... I couldn't tell what he looked like, he was wearing a mask. But he attacked us when we were alone." Devon told me.
I nodded, encouraging him to continue.
"He slashed at me with a sword," Devon continued. "And he held something up, which killed Kirtanta right away."
Devon sighed. "I... he was going to kill me, but he left me there, he said that I was already dying."
"Thank you," I said, quietly. "Now, I want you to go rest."
Devon sighed and nodded.
As he left, I stared at the photo of Kirtanta.
I'm sorry, Kirtanta... you never deserved this. I thought with tears in my eyes.
I looked at my people outside.
One of them was a traitor.
Somebody here was a murderer.
And I didn't know who it was.
I didn't know who to trust anymore.
I turned away and looked back at the picture.
I will find them... I swore. And I will get my vengeance.
