Chapter eighteen - Car rides.

The next day Amelia, Bucky and Evan were up bright and early. They quickly got dressed, and Evan quickly filled up his rucksack with extra food for the trip and some clothes for himself. They gave Alaska to Evans next door neighbor, who was an elderly woman who gladly decided to look after her. Amelia was going to miss her and was getting rather emotional when saying goodbye to Alaska, but she knew she would be safer here.

And then they left.

Amelia got into the drivers seat of Evan's car, Bucky got in shotgun and Evan sat at the back, not really impressed that he couldn't sit in the front of his own car. Amelia wasn't sure what kind of car it was but she didn't really care, so she didn't bother asking. She thought it was a Renault Megane convertible, but she wasn't sure. She wasn't an expert.

"You have AC/DC?" Amelia questioned as the car started.

"Yeah, you left your album in the draw when you last stayed here."

Amelia pulled down the draw that was in from of Bucky's chair and sure enough, her AC/DC album was there. She grinned and took it out, carefully putting it into the CD player.

"So, where we going?" Evan asked, popping his head through the gap of the two chairs so he could clearly see Bucky and Amelia.

"An HYDRA building." Bucky simply answered.

"But surely SHIELD have already checked there?"

"They'res tones of HYDRA buildings. They have a secret building somewhere where they keep hostages, I remember going there once or twice."

"See, your memories will come back to you." Amelia smiles, "One piece at a time."

But truthfully, Bucky was scared to remember his past. The one that HYDRA had hidden from him. He was worried to know what kind of monstrous things he had done for them.

He wasn't just some lost puppy. He can take care of himself, even if he didn't have memories. He didn't really need Amelia, but he needed medical help and she offered him a place to stay- but if that wasn't the case he would've found another way to hide from HYDRA.

He was manipulated to be a predator. He is strong enough, swift enough to take down prey. He is intuitive enough to find who or what he wants. Even before The Soldier, Bucky was smart as a whip and could hold his own in a fight. But now? Now he is the perfect weapon, whether or not he wishes to be.

He adapts, he fights, he wins.

And he will fight to get Steve back.

After a while of driving Amelia finally found her way onto the motorway. She wasn't entirely sure where she was heading, and Bucky couldn't remember as great as he wanted too, but they would find their way eventually.

'You Shook Me All Night Long' by AC/DC started to play and Amelia grinned, tapping her foot to the beat excitably. Evan groaned.

"Can we listen to another album now? Fall Out Boy, The Beatles, maybe even Arctic Monkeys?"

"Driver picks the music, back seat shuts his cake hole."

"It's my car!" Evan explains. Bucky can't help but to look out the window and chuckle at the pair.

"And you're still sitting in the back seat."

"Oh shut up, four eyes."

"Oi!" Amelia defended, letting out a laugh. She didn't wear glasses but the sun was shining bright through the car so she decided to wear Evans Rayban shades. Her hair blew back slightly in the pony tail it was in as the roof had been rolled down.

Bucky on the other hand, was feeling more relaxed than he thought he would. His mind was at ease, seeing the world as Amelia drived past it in Evan's car while she simultaneously argued with Evan, their British accents making the whole thing seem even funnier to Bucky.

He still couldn't get over how different the world was, and it was the first time he had saw it in person like this since he had mostly stayed in Amelia's apartment.

The rock music that played quite loudly- he liked it. His foot tapped along to the beat as the wind pushed against the skin on his face. He didn't once think about HYDRA, SHIELD or Steve, he just thought about how in love he was with this moment. This would be a memory he would never forget.

"Evan will you please just shut up?" Amelia sighed, snapping Bucky out of his thoughts. He lazily glanced around at Evan and a smiled twitched onto his face as he watched them complain.

"No! You shouldn't be such an bossy cow then, should you?"

"Evan I swear to god if you say another word I'm going to kick you out of this car."

Evan goes to open in mouth but Amelia quickly cuts him off and raises her finger, "Ah!"

Evan closes his mouth and crosses his arms, leaning back against the seat moodily. Bucky chuckled and looked at Amelia before staring out the window again.

They drived for another hour before then sun started to get lower. They didn't realise they had been driving for that long, but apparently it appeared they had. Amelia decided to park the car by a near by hotel for them to stay in over night. With a huff she took the keys out the car and the engine stopped.

"...Are we going with the plan?" Bucky questioned, looking over at her.

"Yeah, I'm not sure what else we're meant to stay. Three friends staying the night would sound too casual."

"Excuse me, what plan?" Evan pops his head between the two of them again.

"Me and Bucky are going to be known as Mr and Mrs Holmes, because we'll need fake names."

"And what will I been known as?"

"You can be my older brother."

"Okay, fine. Lets go then, because I'm starving as hell. I hope they serve tea here." Evan rambles on, and all three step out of the car before Amelia locks it. Evan carries his rucksack on his back and Bucky holds Amelia's plain black rucksack for her as they enter the hotel. Amelia looks around, not expecting it to be so posh, then saw the reception. Amelia raised her eyebrow and looked at Evan and Bucky- who just shrugged at her. She wasn't even sure if she could afford to stay here.

They trailed over to reception and saw a blond woman smiling at them pleasingly, wearing a black blazer and a white button-up top underneath. Bucky pulled the sleaves of his jacket down even further.

"Good evening, I'm Mrs. Jones, can I help you with anything?"

"Uh, can we have a room for the night, please."

"Sure! May I please take your names?"

"James and Rachel Holmes, and..." She pauses, trying to think of a name for Evan, "...Clive Oswald."

Evan sends her a look.

"Ah, Mr and Mrs Holmes, brother and sister or...?"

"Oh! We're married, Clive is my older brother." Amelia smiles at the polite lady who smiles in return at her.

"Aw! Well, Mr. Holmes, you're a very lucky man to have someone as beautiful and kind as Rachel."

"Aren't I just?" Bucky smiles, and Amelia can't help but to find it adorable. Evan stays awkward at Bucky's side.

"Okay then, for all three that will be $100.98 please." The woman finishes typing, and Amelia glances round to look at Evan. Evan looks back at her, confused, then realise and rolls his eyes, pulling his debit card out off his wallet moodily and steps forward, putting the card into the magnetic stripe card reader. He was the one, after all, to have a good, paying job.

Evan types in his pin and then removes the card, successfully paying for all three of them.

"Thank you. Here's your key, the elevators are just over there and the door next to them leads to the stairs in case you prefer to take them." The woman slightly nods her and smiles. All three of them say thank you before turning around and heading towards their over night room.

"Seriously? Clive?" Evan mutters at her. Amelia just shrugs and opens the door to the stairs, knowing Evan didn't like Elevators. All of them couldn't wait to get to their room. They were all dying to eat, shower and to sleep.
