Chapter Seven

The house became quieter, you could hear the house-elves moving around, pots, and cups banging, whenever someone walked down the stairs but you heard no words. Walburga stayed in her room most days, Orion went to work still, and Regulus wondered about the house.

Regulus looked across the hall into Sirius's room, he wanted to search it, tear it to shreds, but no, he would wait. Sirius would come back in a week and he would want his room to be perfect.

However, Sirus's room had access to the attic, it was closed off to Sirius though after he tried to sneak up there after being told not to. Opposed to Sirius, Regulus was actually quiet when he snuck around. He walked over to his brother's room, opening the closest and pulling down careful not to touch his brother's things. He climbed up being slightly shocked at how much stuff was up there.

It was early in the day so he wouldn't be expected to come down till later or since his mum was locked away in her room, maybe he wouldn't be expected at all.

It was mostly old clothes and jewelry, a wedding dress caught his eye, he didn't remember his parents talking about a wedding. He was told that they got married at the ministry and didn't hold any event. He picked it up, realizing that is was wrapping a box. He unwrapped it and opened the box, seeing a bunch of muggle photos inside.

It looked like a younger version of his mother, there were other photos of a man, someone he had never seen before. He stuffed both of the photos in his pocket and continued looking through the box finding a letter.

Dear Charles,

This is the last letter I'm going to write, if you see me in the streets please ignore me, please do not fight with Orion again, just leave it rest.

Orion and I have gotten married, no big wedding or ceremony just went to the ministry and signed the paperwork. I'm pregnant now, I don't really care what gender I get but Orion wants a boy; Lyra and Sirius are the names we've dwindled down to.

I have the wedding dress in my attic, I can send it back if you want along with anything else you wish.

I'm sorry this one is short, I haven't much time, I want you to know that my heart will always belong to you.

I love you, W.L.B

Regulus gave a confused look at the parchment, folding it again, and taking out the photo of the man, Charles Confonder  was written on the back.

He put it in his pocket again and slowly made his way down the attic, he closed the attic and then Sirius' bedroom door. He went downstairs ready to ask his mum if he could go to the ministry but then decided against it and just went.

When he arrived he went to the history department, asking the desk lady where the public files where. After being lead in the right direction he searched through the C's, he found a Charles Confonder, born in 1743, hopefully not the right one. It would've been a lot easier if the file was in order but it looked like someone had messed with it.

He found another Charles Confonder, born in 1922, died in 1959. This one sounded more promising, went to Hogwarts, graduated from Hogwarts. No family, no lovers, this was it. It looked pretty boring until he looked at the cause of death: homicide. He furrowed his brows together until he remembers who his parents were, they were friends with the worse of the worse.

He sighed, having nothing better to do, he searched for the newspaper archives. He then realized how many newspapers were published in 1959.

A worker came over to him, "Can I help you, dear?"

"Just looking for more details on a case," Regulus replied.

"Which one?" She asked.

"Charles Confonder." He pulled out the photo to show her.

"Ah another one of the cold cases, why are you studying him?"

"I wanna go into the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, so I'm brushing up on cases." He lied.

"Well good luck!" She pulled out a bunch of newspapers, he sat down and started to go through them.
