Chapter 31: The Body Pulled from the Chasm
As the sun begins to set over the horizon I start hobbling back home. The cut on my knee stings with every wobbly step I take.
As I pass the strings of people walking home from work they all offer to help me but I declined. I don't need anyone asking what had happened?
As I look up at my house I feel a surge of pain, it isn't as strong as it was a few hours ago but the pain of hurting Robert is still there lingering in the background.
Taking a deep breath I wobble up the porch steps and open the door.
The house is silent. It's a scary silent.
"I'm home!" I call out my voice echoes off the walls.
I am met with silence for a few seconds before Susan's cheery voice calls out from the kitchen.
"Just in time for dinner!"
I close the door and lock it.
I walk to the kitchen and take a seat at the table. It is only Susan and me who are together tonight, she told me that Robert isn't feeling well and isn't in the mood to come down and eat.
Judging by the look on her face it appears that she doesn't know the real reason why he doesn't want to come down for dinner. Maybe he is protecting her because he knows what a good friendship she and I have?
After dinner, I go up to the bathroom and wash up. My bandage got wet so I had to apply a new one before climbing into bed.
I turn off my light and fall asleep listening to the sniffles and choked back sobs resonating from Robert's room.

Robert continued to remain in his room with the door shut and locked. Not even letting Susan inside to bring him some breakfast.
With meetings going on all day in pretty much all the sectors training was called off for the day.
While Susan stayed at home and tried to get through to Robert I went for a long walk.
Deciding to go to Dauntless to see my friends I go to Tori's apartment and slip on my all-black clothes.
Knowing that I won't be able to get onto the train with my still aching knee I walk into one of Dauntless's ground entrances.
When I reach the pit I am so glad to see Christina and Will and no Al.
Smiling I walk over to them but they don't smile back. This made my stomach turn and I feared that Al told them about our encounter and now they don't want to be my friends anymore.
"Hey, guys why the glum faces?" I nervously chuckle.
They look at each other and then up at me.
"We are worried about Al he has been acting weird the last few hours." Christina said in a sad tone.
Putting on a mask of confusion I cross my arms.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
Will shrugs.
"We have no idea he won't tell us."
"We just think he is stressed about the finals coming up I mean he did just barely make it through stage one and he isn't the best when it comes to handling his fears."
"Christina!"
"I'm sorry okay I was raised in Candor I was trained to say the first things that come up in my mind!" She yells at him.
"Okay hold on," I yell at them," I'm sure whatever he is going through will come to pass. And what Cristina said could be true I mean initiation looks stressful."
Will and Christina nod.
"Thanks, Tris." Will smiles at me.
"I'm sure he will be fine."
"Guys come here!" A loud voice yells into the pit.
Christina and Will get up and start running after them, I follow at their heels.
We follow the man to the chasm where a large crowd of people were standing around looking down into the deep pit.
"What's going on?" Christina asks.
"I have no idea." I reply.
We all watch as three men pull up something from the chasm with a system of ropes.
It looks heavy.
We all gasp as the thing they were pulling comes into view.
It's a dead body.
They set the boy down on the cold stone floor. His lifeless face looked out at all of us.
Al!
