17. School is in session
By the time the bell had rung Rebel had taken a shower, dressed and was standing by the door of her third class, leaning against the wall, watching the students rush out only to rush in to another class. A text alerted her to her front pocket. She pulled it out to see a text from Dakota.
'Are you still at school?'
'Yep.'
'Good, where are you now?'
'3rd period. Hurry up.'
'Sure thing.'
She pushed the phone back into her pocket and continued listening to music as other students passed her by.
The telltale sign of a shadow appeared at her side and she turned, about to ask Dakota if he grew wheels on his feet but then she scoffed, the friendly smile of Danielle standing there surprised her just a little. Danielle was Dakota's baby sister who fifteen, the same age as her sister, and only a freshman, soon to be a sophomore. She was as beautiful as her mother, she was slender, but shapely and just a few feet shorter than herself, she had long dark wavy hair and her full cheeks that framed her sharp slanted almond shaped eyes nicely. Her brown eyes darker than her brother Dakota, and her skin toned just shy of light skinned. A smile stretched over her lips, as she nodded towards her. "Hey Dani."
"Hey Bell, have you seen my brother around?" She asked, adjusting her bag on her shoulder.
"That depends. Which one?" She asked, knowing that Dakota wasn't the only brother that she had that was in their school. Her older Damon worked here as the P.E teacher for the younger grades and was also the assistant basketball coach.
Damon and Dakota were almost alike, except Dakota was slightly taller than him. She chuckled at that. "I'm dodging Damon, and I meant Dakota."
Rebel poked out her tongue. "Dakota's coming in a minute and why are you avoiding Damon?" She asked folding her arms over her chest.
"Well, I kinda, sorta skipped his class today and now, I'm trying to keep out of his sight."
Rebel shook her head. "You know that you can't avoid him at home, right?" Danielle nodded. "Yes, that's why I'll be over at your place with Riella."
"Clever."
"Anyways, if he asks for me, you never saw me." Rebel made like she was zipping her lips shut and threw away the imaginary key. "Hey Bells, hey Dani, Damon was looking for you by the way, and why is he looking for you?"
She chuckled nervously at Dakota and started stuttering her answer. "Danielle Rue, answer me." He stressed.
Rebel smacked him on the arm. "Cool it Dake."
Danielle touched her arm softly. "Dakota, I skipped his class because I didn't feel like doing laps today, the last time I got a bad pulled muscle and had to ice it all day." She blurted out.
"Dake, don't get mad, I mean it's not like you're a good example of perfect attendance." Dakota threw Rebel a look of what-the-hell and set she her face and folded her arms. "Dani, please get to class." Dakota said, Dani's shoulders fell in defeat at his command as she walked off down the hall.
"Why'd you have to say that?" He asked poking Rebel's arm. She shoved him away. "Because it was the truth and you were doing too much. Shit, I mean, she's only a kid, give her a break."
"You're impossible."
"And you're a jerk." He rolled his eyes and she wrapped an arm around his right arm. "Come on idiot, let's get to class." She attempted to pull him to the door but he just chuckled watching her try. "I despise you." She grumbled. He laughed, poking her nose as he pulls his arm from her grip, to drape it over her shoulder.

The boredom Rebel was suffering from by listening to Mr. Woods going on and on about some dead guy who used to be a US president was going to be the death of her. She groaned, who really cared about that stuff, they're all dead anyways and it wasn't as if talking about them would make a difference. American history was corrupt enough, and instead of teaching it they should be fixing it.
The class door opens and in walks the jerk who almost crashed into Rebel this morning. Her eyes darkened into a glare and her upper lip rose, a low growl slipping out, her pencil snapping at the sight of him alerted Dakota's attention from his nap. "God please tell me he's just lost and that this is not his class." She whispered.
"Keep it down Bell." Dakota grumbled.
Mr. Woods and him spoke for a moment then he turned back to the class. "Everyone this is Caleb Young and he'll be learning about the great American history with us." Oh joy. She shoved the remains of the shattered pencil off the desk and folded her arms.
The whispering and gossiping began once the teacher resumed talking about the dead presidents. Rebel looked over her shoulder to her right to see Dakota with his eyes shut without a care in the world, not even acknowledging the fact that that asshole was in now in their class. She rolled her eyes at his obliviousness and kept her eyes on the teacher.
Someone trapped her right shoulder and she knew it couldn't be Dakota, because he was a half asleep at the moment.
"What do you want?" She asked calmly, her hands fisted. She carefully turned around. "Sorry, am I interrupting you?" He asked something of a devilishly smile on his lips.
"You're trying to be funny, aren't you?" He shrugged. "What'd you want?"
"I wanted to apologize for what happened this morning. It was my fault—I wasn't watching where I was going. I'm sorry." He was looking at her with his smoldering hazel eyes, but his sincere look wasn't fazing her, not even his half-assed apology could make up for earlier, but still he did try.
"Okay, I forgive you, now stop talking to me." With that she put one earbud in and assumed her previous state, where she was half listening what the teacher was saying.

Dakota was 100% sure that he was going to die from how much this class dragged on. Rebel was partly asleep, as was most of the class. He hadn't fully heard a proper statement from Mr. Woods once he began drawling on about something historical.
He swear that whomever made history was secretly plotting the mental murder of school kids. When the bell rang Dakota could not get out of that class fast enough. He was in such a hurry to get to the cafeteria that when a voice called out to him the realization that he had left Rebel behind made him stop cold in his tracks.
"What the hell was that?!" She yelled once she caught up to him.
"Aww, is your friend running away from you Rebel?" The pair groaned, at the familiar voice of Heidi.
Rebel got to answer her first. "Why don't you fuck off you spoilt brat." Heidi gasped, touching her chest as if those words had stabbed her. "Excuse me? You do not get to call me names little boy." Both Rebel and Dakota raised an eyebrow at her.
"If that's what your comeback is then we should just leave before I make you cry." They turned back but Heidi wasn't going to step down so easily, she pursed her lips and scrutinized Rebel up and down.
"Trust me Rebel, you can't make me cry."
She rolled her eyes at Heidi, "You mean I can, right."
"You're just a—."
Rebel stepped closer and brought her voice down to a whisper. "How about you keep quiet," she said reaching out to twirl a finger in one of her strawberry blonde ringlets, "before I tell your boyfriend that you have a girlfriend, huh." Heidi gasped, her green eyes wide as the color in her face drained. "H—how?" Rebel allowed her a soft smirk then she dropped her hair and walked off down the hall. Dakota looked down at Rebel. "How did you shut her up?"
"Magic." She answered simply.
