We were currently quietly walking along a desolate road with a grey sky above us,the town was completely ruined as there was no stable road without piles upon piles of rubbles blocking the way as I was forced to climb up to not have to see The dead corpses of the people before me

We have been on the way for six hours now

"How much further?"

"We still have three hundred and fifty  kilometers to travel until we arrive there but a hundred of these kilometers we will have to either walk through a bridge or with a boat"said the incubator

"Aww maaan"I groaned as I continued walking

We were currently passing by a crossroad that Had many cars crashed into it that had started to be covered in rust

"So what are witches exactly?"I asked

"They are the final stage of a magical girl who has reached the bottom of despair,someone who lost their reason to fight and as such curse the world around them"

"Magical girls?I thought they were just a piece of media or fiction?something for girls to enjoy and picture themselves in"I asked

"They are indeed real,girls who make wishes in exchange for theirs souls to fight witches and protect humans from their influence"

"So you made them fight past magical girls? that's inhumane!!"I said

"We do not comprehend such things as emotions,so this procedure seemed like the most efficient way"said incubator

"What says you won't do the same with me?"I asked it

"If I decided to not have you alive then I wouldn't have kept you alive for so long,we have used almost all of our resources to keep your alive as well as bringing some needed changes in you so now there is no way you can die "

I stayed quiet as I realized it was right,if it wanted me dead it could have easily done that

As we continued walking I then stepped something that felt a little wet but also making a crushing sound when I did so
As I looked down at my feet to see I was stepping on a dark red liquid

It didn't take me long to figure out it was blood and not just a little bit the under part of the road was full of it,just all of it was dried and rotten blood

"HII!!"I immediately climbed back up to the broken road to avoid it

"Don't shout, you'll just attract the attention of the witches"

"But aren't they super far away? there's one way over there if I remember correctly"I said

"Perhaps but they have familiars and said familiars can easily detect you as they are spread out everywhere so don't make any unnecessary sounds,just because they can't feel your presence doesn't mean they can't see or hear you"said incubator

"Sorry what should we do then?"

"You compromised our position so to remain safe we need to find a safe spot to close ourselves in until we clear all doubts of them finding us"

And so I began to search through the abandoned buildings as I came across a store that appeared to be an abandoned supermarket

It also had to food left as people most likely took everything from there during the initial disaster

"Let's go inside one of the offices,best to look for a closed one so that we can close it again and not raise any suspicions in case they checked everything beforehand"said kyubey as I followed what it told me and walked over to the manager's office which was thankfully not locked as I got in

"Good now pick up some sticks from the broken ceilings and we can start a fire with the supplies you have"

I got out again after putting down my backpack to gather the wood for a fire as I started picking up dry sticks as I also noticed a canister that seemed to still have some oil in it which I gladly picked up and walked back to the room to find the incubator pulling out a lighter out of my backpack

"Good with this you can start a fire and make yourself some food from the cans and then sleep so we may continue tomorrow"told me the incubator as I did what it told me as by using the sticks,the oil and the lighter I started a fire to make myself some hot beans

But I had to put it out so the witches wouldn't find me out

So I took my backpack to the desk which the front blocked anything from seeing me from the front as I also used my backpack to cover myself from the other side as I finally dozed off to sleep while incubator was on watch if anything happened

LATER:

"Edel!wake up!you need to wake up!"

I was woken up by the sound of loud door banging

"W-w-what?!"I asked startled by my sudden awakening

"We need to get out now!!"it shouted

"Why?!I thought we were safe!?"

"They traced the smell of fire all the way here and they keep multiplying!"

"WHAT?!"

"And worst of all

The witch is on her way to you"
