Cover/Title
The cover contains hues that bring about the very setting of the story, an antique vibe which I adore. Therefore, it was attractive to the eye. It overall gives you hints as to what the plot might circle, an appropriate choice.
The title "Wherefore Art Thou" may mislead at first glance as a classic so it could be putting off to many but the addition of "Heroes Book One" gives it a modern tinge which attracts attention. On a poetic note it is striking.
Summary/Blurb
The first four lines are poetically alluring and establishes the connection to Romeo and Juliet. However, the latter part of the blurb comes off as a little too direct as it tells us quite a bit about the main plot of the story. It thereby loses a mysterious element and could put off readers who already know what to expect and need not go further.
Grammar/Structure
Accurate use of grammar. Every rule is followed thoroughly which is something difficult to do so it is highly commendable.
Sentence structure follows a short and blunt approach which efficiently makes strong statements. There were however a few awkward sentences that could use a bit of tweaking. Chapters, however, tend to range between extremely long and abruptly short. Certain paragraphs tend to be excessively long which can be difficult to keep with and slightly putting off. While world building and establishment of surrounding is necessary it can be split up quite a bit.
Vocabulary/Descriptions
Stunning descriptions are used which allows one to visualize the scene almost as though they are part of it. A striking description that stood out was Juliet's resemblance to her mother. With the use of the mysterious first person it also allowed one to picture the scene from above which is how the narrator sees it.
There were moments however, where description seemed disproportionate. This added to the length of paragraphs greatly and seemed unnecessary in a few instances. This is attributable mostly to the first and second chapters of the story. There are moments where a single word sufficiently gets a point across thus extensive vocabulary is not needed.
That aside, the descriptions are beautiful and possess a poetic sense to it, one that hints at an unusual darkness.
Character development/ Plot development
So far along the story very little has progressed. This is mostly due to the varying points of view which introduces new characters every other chapter. This in turn makes it difficult to see an individual character progress. A range of characters is well and good for adding colour to the story but the main plot seems to be lost within it.
It took quite some time for a main character to make an appearance which can put off a reader as they don't know where the story is headed. An intriguing plot hides behind all of this so if executed appropriately the story is definitely one to keep your eyes out for.
Conclusion
An intriguing vibe circulates the story. There are several mysteries that hide beyond the surface and one that specifically had be hooked was the narrator of the first few chapters. A dark sense is brought out through the prophecies, one that demands attention.
If the few inefficiencies are corrected there's certainly an interesting ride ahead, one that will have you repeatedly questioning how the characters' story will unfold.
Note: The review book offers several options. To review only grammar and sentence structure. To review only character development and plot. To review only vocabulary and descriptions. Or, the requester can ask for all of this to be reviewed. There are two options when making this request – for it to be sugar-coated or not.
This review is for it all to be touched on (not sugar-coated).
