Chapter Seven:

After spending the day swimming and relaxing by the water, I head back into the network of caves. I hum softly to myself as I skip down the darkening halls, lighting candles as I go. Turning to look the way I came is beautiful, all the lights and added darkness just makes it all so pretty. The soft light of the setting sun and of the candles, catches on the little crystals in the walls and set the caves sparkling. It really is a sight to behold.

I skip into my little kitchen, which is really just a bunch of nonperishable foods with pots and pans. Seeing as the magic in the clearing affects electricity, I can't exactly work a stove or anything like that. If I want fresh food, I either have to make it, hunt or find it.

Knowing little Faen will be hungry, I mix together some milk, with a few drops of wild honey, to sweeten it up. Pouring the end result into a bottle, I screwed the lid on and go in search of my 'cub'. I roam from cave to cave, calling out his name, even whistling, but Faen is not to be found.

I practically turn the place upside down as I search every inch of my hideout. There are still places I haven't explored or closed off. This thought sends new waves of worry through me, making Aris anxious for her cub. I feel sorry for my cubs, if I ever have any, as I'm sure Aris is just going to be a constant worry wart.

Aris whines and mewls in my head, which is starting to give me a headache. She's worried, but I'm sure there is no reason to. I decide to check my bedchamber, seeing as it could be a place of comfort for my little fawn.

I turn down the passage way, heading in the direction of my room. I tread with practiced familiarity down the darkened passages, lit faintly by the glowing crystals that give the mountain it's name.

As I reach the opening to my bedchamber, the room is considerably brighter than the other caverns in the mountain. Having decorated the spacious room in various glowing crystals, adding to the rest mounted in the walls, has made the room alight in their soft glowing.

A thick mattress lies on a raised rock platform, looking like a bed designed for a goddess. Quilts, blankets and duvets cover the massive expanse of the bed, along with a mass of pillows. The smooth rock floor of the cavern is covered in a painstakingly grown layer of green grass. As well as vines creeping along the walls and other plants growing in crevices in the walls, the room resembles a forest paradise.

I smile as I walk into the room, the room fresh and cool with night air. The cavern is dark, but bright enough for me to make out a small lump snuggled among the blankets and pillows on my bed. The tiny form twitches as it dreams and breathes out in even breaths.

Faen.

I walk over and kneel on the edge of the massive bed, feeling the alluring comfort that it offers. It's tempting to just lay down beside Faen and fall into a deep sleep after a long day. Especially after traveling, but Faen must be hungry and as he is still so young, he needs the nutrients.

"Faen," I whisper, nudging his small body with my hand.

He snorts and rolls over, his gangly legs facing the upwards as he continues to dream, completely ignoring me. The adorable action causing me to giggle softly at him, Aris joining in my head with small rumbles of amusement.

"Come on baby boy," I coo, tickling the soft skin of his stomach, "Time for some dinner Faen."

I grin as Faen snorts and sneezes as I tickle him awake, his small body jerking away from my teasing touch. Once he's rolled over once more, his small head drooping with exhaustion, he stares at me accusingly with sleepy brown eyes.

"Sorry, dumpling," I chuckle at the fawn's grumpy expression.

I pull him into my embrace and cuddle him to my chest as I pull out the bottle of milk I prepared earlier for him. I tip the bottle towards him, pressing the soft silicone teat against his lips. He suckles greedily, making cute little slurping noises as he tugs against the bottle as he drinks.

"There you go," I encourage, as he continues to drink the contents with hungry ferocity.

Aris is purring with deep satisfaction in their back of my head, happy to have found her cubs and sated that Faen is eating so well. I've often heard stories of youngsters, humans and animals alike, refusing to eat when they are thrust into alien situations.

That doesn't seem to be the case with Faen, though. I'm glad, as I don't think I could handle Faen refusing my care. I watch in adoration as Faen finishes the last dregs of milk from the bottle and pulls away yawning widely.

I giggle at him as he continues to nuzzle me as if searching for more delicious milk to drink. I pick him up and hold him up in the air in front of me. His lanky legs dangle and he blinks dazedly at me, his brown eyes staring deeply into my blue ones. He leans forward, his little nose twitching as he sniffs my face. He suddenly slips out his little pink tongue and swipes it across my nose, leaving me gaping and with Faen's slobber on my face.

"Ughhh! Faen!" I shriek, furiously wipe my face on my shoulder, desperate to rid my face of his gross spit and germs.

He snorts at me and wiggles in my grasp, wanting to be released. I tuck him in the blankets and lay down beside him, snuggling against his small body. I close my eyes, allowing myself to escape into dreams of my handsome Alpha mate.
