⚠️TW: Mentions of unsolicited touching. You can just skip this chapter if you want to, though, you could also just jump over the conversation with Enki.
Just from the description of this book, I'm sure that you all know that this story isn't going to be all about fluff? :,)
.
.
Fifteen missed calls and 18 new text messages from an unknown number? Seriously, who was this loser? Though if you'd were to give a hunch as to who this anonymous person was, it'd definitely be Yukio.
Haha, blocked.
Now closing your phone, you peeked outside the car's windows. It was still so early, to the point that the sun had not yet risen. Rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, you let out a huge yawn, not giving a mind about manners since it was only you and Driver Lance in this car.
"Have you not slept well, milady?" He asked. "Na." Thinking back to the memories of tonight, yeah, you definitely didn't. Anyhow, even if you were ticked because of their unceremonious choice of ringing you up, you couldn't stop yourself from feeling a bit disconcerted regarding Enki's abrupt hanging up. You could just brush it off as his usual antsy self, but something was just telling you that that was just the tip of the ice berg.
Enki was your seatmate, so you could just interrogate him. But if he showed any signs of discomfort, you wouldn't even bother to continue prying the data out of him. Yes, you were curious, but you weren't an asshole to be insensitive about the feelings of other people.
"We're here now. Please have a good day ahead of you."
"Thank you, hope the same thing applies to you as well."
And while it was still at daybreak, the whole academy's lights were turned on, plus there were also some light chatters from the students.
Talk about early birds, huh?
Replacing your intake of water by downing down your travel mug of coffee when you just plopped down on your chair to wait for your Maths teacher didn't really sound ideal at best, but hey, if it kept you awake and not snoring, you were satisfied.
Furthermore, the taste of this beverage was really too addicting.
About to take another sip and just appreciate how this was brewed, your closed and relaxed eyes flew open right after the container was taken away from you. Shooting a nasty look at the criminal, indignation flourished instantly after your mind processed the owner of that countenance.
Yukio.
"Drinking coffee this early in the morning is bad for your health," howbeit that did nothing to alleviate the vexation that dripped from you. "And since when have you been my doctor?" Snatching away the mug from him, whilst making sure that it wouldn't spill anywhere, you hugged it closer to your chest.
Did Yukio really think that you two were close just because he'd managed to 'encourage' you to join his club? You were basically forced to do that since you were left with no choice at all!
"Is that a way to speak to someone who just cares for your wellbeing? And why weren't you answering my calls and messages?" Yukio pressed those questions towards you, but you still remained cool for you knew and expected that this was going to happen.
"I'm not obliged to do that, so why should I? Will I get any benefits from even doing what you just stated, Mister President?" You cocked your head to the side with a provoking simper? He went silent, so you took this as your chance to continue gulping the tumbler's contents. "And look at the girls around you, they're looking at me with those faces, as if they are envious of me taking your time like this."
Now purposefully disregarding Yukio's existence, you hummed before giving the final blow, "So why not just enjoy your time with the harem you've formed and just pay no mind to me?"
"Tsk. Alright, fine. I'll ignore you and let's see what happens. I can't wait to see you begging just for me to notice you," did he intend to say that as a jest? Or did he actually believe that 'you' would even desire for his attention? The only good thing that came out of this was he was now leaving you to your own devices.
"Pft."
And just like that, Ma'am Elenora finally arrived and wasted no time for she jumped on straight to the lessons. You could still feel that boy side-eyeing you but you just let him be, not letting him have the satisfaction of actually affecting you in some way.

Literature passed and even Music Class, yet Enki was still nowhere to be seen. It wasn't like you to be this worried over someone, but this was Enki we're talking about. The small, fluffy Enki who would be red at even the smallest compliments thrown at him. And because you knew what was his life was behind closed doors, you couldn't just imagine what he went through. Him hanging up last night too without even saying a goodbye, that was just not him.
You sat on one of the tables in the cafeteria, Kane by your side as she slurped on those noodles so loudly. It was wrong to pick with food, but you didn't have your usual appetite because of your overthinking. Why couldn't you just forget everything about him and continue on with your life, the same way you did when you hadn't met him yet?
Oh right, because notwithstanding the fact that you could be a prick at times, you still fret over how other people were doing despite being falsely dismissive about things.
"You alright? You look like you want to take a shit," Kane paused her eating just to state the obvious. Getting to your feet, you pushed the bowl of Udon towards her. "I'm not feeling good so I'll go to the nurse's office for now. Take my food so it wouldn't be a waste."
"Wha- really?! Thanks! You're the best!" How could someone be so excited over food?
.

"Sorry for the intrusion," you spoke before entering the room and closing the door as gently as you can so as not to disturb anyone who might be resting at this place as of the moment. You just wanted to sleep, because every time that something bad happens to you, you just sleep it out and once you wake up, everything fortunately turns out to be fine. You were hopeful that this tactic would work for you once more just this one time.
Just as you passed one of the beds, you walked backwards just to see who the person was. And oh boy, it was the one who was occupying your thoughts recently.
"Enki!" You yelled out his name. Noticing that no one had 'shh'-ed you, it was safe for you to assume that no one was here besides you two.
Enki was putting an antiseptic on his wrists which seemed to have rope burns on them. You could see that he was very much disgruntled before you said his name. Yes, you didn't expect him to feel merry because of your appearance, you doubt anyone would, but you also didn't think that there would come a time that he would look so horrified because of you.
"Enki... Are you alright? You missed morning classes and I was worried for you," your dominant hand was about to place a pat on his shoulder, yet when he flinched, you recoiled back.
"You shouldn't feel such way for a trash like me." God, he felt like breaking. He didn't know what to do. He felt like he was the filthiest thing on the worldㅡ and that's why he couldn't look at you like usually would. You were nice, an angel even... Not anyone would care for him, let alone try to speak to him. Yet you... You were the first one to approach him! And seeing you look at him with such broken eyes, it hurt him to the core. But no, he wouldn't give in to such temptations.
After all, he was so dirty that even just looking at you would impure you. And if you could just hear his thoughts, you'd immediately retaliate with a, 'Bold of you to assume that I was even pure in the first place.'
You squinted your eyes just to get a closer look at his chest since you swore you saw something. And you were indeed correct. Were those... Were those hickeys?
Until it finally dawned upon you, causing your lungs to push out all of the air in it.
Ima Clorénvale, his mother. In the work of fiction, it was confirmed that due to his father leaving the estate often because of business meetings that he must attend, that wretched wife of his enacts all of her sexual desires on her son. Her son?! The one whom she gave birth to! Who the hell does that?! Was she even right in the mind?!
Those rope marks... Those just confirmed your suspicions. The reason why he suddenly ended the call, it was because of that woman. You just wanted to scream, you wanted to let out all those profanities, and just provide comfort for Enki for surviving that nightmareㅡ
You rushed towards Enki, not even able to think of your actions first for you went on and did it without your own volition, your body and mind screeching at you that this was the right thing to do.
You enveloped him within your arms, embracing him tightly in your hold. You weren't great with words, but you'd try to, because of him.
"You don't deserve any of that. You really don't... And I'm not pitying you, alright? I'm proud of you... Proud that you were able to withstand all of those cruel things without any signs of breaking," you breathed in and out. You must try and act to be strong, even if you were far from that. He needed a pillar of support, and you were willing to overlook his book version and just focus on the current Enki.
The Enki that couldn't even lift a hand on someone, the Enki that would say his 'sorry's even if unwarranted, and the Enki that would keep all of his problems to himself for he didn't like pestering other people with things that only concerned him.
"You can let it out now. You've been strong for far too long, and I wouldn't know how hard it was for you... But having an outlet for your pain would do you wonders."
Every bit just piled up inside his mind. All of his father's deriding, his guv'nor beating him to a pulp because he made a single mistake, and lastly, his mother using him for her own needs... Everything that still haunted him at night...
Your recess was spent with Enki bawling his eyes out, with you consoling him inside the clinic that was deserted with people.
