Bedtime (a Storm tail)

Bedtime

I'm baaaaaaacccccckkk.

Did you miss me?

I would have been back sooner but I think Mom and Dad were mad at me. Something about smashing a bowl, knocking things off end tables and counters, eating plants and something to do with a bunch of sticks that Mom has in some vases on the floor.

I mean why else would Mom put sticks in a vase other than having them as a play toy for me. Apparently they are not a toy.

As I get older, I'm almost 18 now, I am understanding Mom and Dad much more. Uncle Shadow told me I would get to know their language really well in time, but he is as puzzled as I am that they do not better understand ours.

"Meow?"

So Dad has let me on the computer again so I can write a little more.

Humans puzzle me sometimes. They have these huge houses, with all kinds of neat and wonderful places to sleep, yet every night they go to the same place. They have this huge bed in a room all by itself and this is where they sleep every night.

How silly is that. There are couches in the living room and downstairs in the basement. Another couch in the room with the computer. Closet floors make nice safe places to sleep. I've even fell asleep on the kitchen counter. And then there is the cat tree, which is a great place when the sun shines.

I don't think Mom or Dad would fit in the cat tree very well.

But they go to the same place, every night. Get in the bed the same way, every night. Sleep on the same side of the bed, every night. They even sleep on the same end of the bed, every night. And they sleep on pillows, every night.

How boring.

Now once in a while Mom will fall asleep in the big chair in the room where she watches television. She looks so comfortable, curled under a blanket. And I get to stretch across her lap and sleep to. Everything is perfect.

Then for some reason, Dad wakes Mom up and she goes to the big bed and goes back to sleep.

"Meow. Meow?"

Now I know I'm just a cat, but that don't make sense to me. Why do human wake each other up just to tell them to go to bed? Isn't that what you do in bed, sleep? So if you are asleep, why wake up to go to bed to go back to sleep?

Sometimes, they puzzle me.

But I have to admit, I love it when they do settle down for the night. I get to crawl under the blanket and curl up next to Mom. It's warm and dark and Mom tickles me under the chin.

"Purrrrrrrrrr."

Of course it usually doesn't last very long because jealous Uncle Shadow usually comes walking across the bed and across me. The other night he even laid on top of me. I'm sure I heard him laughing.

I crawled out from under the sheets and chased him downstairs. He got a couple heel nips that night.

Then Mom scolded me for waking her up. I tried to tell her it was Uncle Shadow's fault but for some reason she seemed to think it was all mine.

The other strange thing is that humans sleep in their bed for a while. They get their scent all over it and then just when it's the way it should be, they take off all the scented sheets and they put on new ones.

Why would you do that?

You get them smelling just the way they should be and then they take them off and replace them with sheets that smell like.....

Quite honestly I don't know what they smell like.

"Meow!!!!!!"

Oh, well. I guess that's just some of the things you put up with when you live with humans.

Paw note: Mom and Dad left the Rrrrrr machine on again and I think I emptied another full bottle. Dad laughed.
