"see you later, thank you so much for coming," aria says, bidding ian and brian a goodbye, giving them both hugs.
"you gonna be okay hungover with a completely sober shawn?" ian teases, as aria chuckles in response, nodding her head.
"i'm sure he's tired from dropping aaliyah back home," aria chuckles, looking back and seeing shawn half asleep and half attentive to the tv. "i'll be fine."
"alright, see you guys soon," brian says, ian waving at them. "bye shawn!"
"see ya!" shawn yells back, like he's just been woken up, as aria rolls her eyes playfully.
"thank you for coming!" she calls, as they leave down the corridor. aria sighs gently, shutting the door and turning around to see shawn falling asleep. "oh shawn," aria chuckles, wandering towards him and sitting down next to him on the couch, as he dramatically leans down on her lap, aria laughing and playing with his hair.
"i'm so tired," he whines, reaching up with his hand to grab onto arias hand. he starts to play with her ring, his eyes fluttering shut.
"you didn't even get drunk last night, i did," aria snorts, knitting her fingers through his curls. "shawn, i swear to god, why are you so tired?"
"there was so much traffic," he complains, aria not knowing that he's partly lying. "cuddle me."
"i am!" aria giggles, a grin on her lips, as shawn lips turn slightly upward. "how about we open a bottle of wine tonight and get you drunk so you actually have an excuse to be tired tomorrow?"
"deal," shawn chuckles in response, sitting up, and letting aria nestle closer to his chest. "so, did you have a good birthday in the end?"
"i did," aria nods, making shawn smile widely. "it was such an amazing night, even though i don't remember a thing after camila and i did those shots," she lets out a laugh, shutting her eyes. "thank you for a great night, shawn."
"no problem, baby, you deserved it," he says, kissing her head delicately. aria smiles softly against his chest, bringing her legs up onto the couch. "actually-"
shawn gets cut off by the doorbell, and his mood completely changes. that could be arias dad.
"why don't you get the door, hunny?" shawn offers to aria, making her sigh, and leave shawns grasp. she bunches up her hoodie sleeves, before plodding over to the white door, and opening it, expecting a parcel delivery or something else; definitely not expecting her father.
"hello- dad?" aria questions, suddenly standing up straighter and more alert, yet feeling her emotions come crashing into her. "what are you doing here?"
"happy birthday, sweetheart," her dad says, his voice cracking, as he holds out a small black gift bag. aria feels a lump form at her throat, as she quickly jumps into her fathers arms, crying into his shoulder.
"oh god- dad," she weeps, as her own father gets teary eyed too. shawn takes this as the sign to leave the main room, and goes into the bedroom to lie down.
"look at you, honey, you look so grown up," he smiles at his daughter, as she lifts her head up, wiping away her tears with the back of her hand.
"dad," she sniffles, the tears not stopping from rolling down her cheeks. "why isn't anyone talking to me? what did i do?"
"honey-"
"are they not happy for me?" her dad sighs softly, wiping away her tears. "dad?" she squeaks.
"they're just being stupid," her dad says. "give it some time, aria. i promise things will settle out."
"w-why haven't you come to see me or talk to me?"
"your brother and mother are being too protective," he frowns, looking away from her. "i can't even answer my phone without her checking who's calling."
"dad, oh my god," aria chokes out, feeling completely overwhelmed. "d-do you want to come in?"
"i'd like that," he nods, as aria guides him inside the condo, taking a seat next to him on the dining table. "how was your birthday, kiddo?"
"it was good," she mumbles, wiping away the last of her tears. she might as well enjoy the time with her dad instead of crying the entire way through. "some friends came over for breakfast, and then shawn rented out this hall in the evening. it was fun."
"i'm glad you found someone like shawn," he tells her, making arias cheeks flush gently. "he really does love you."
"i know," she mumbles, her cheeks pink.
"you know he came over this morning to talk to me, just so i could come to see you," her dad tells her, making aria suddenly perk up more.
"what?" she asks confused, her voice soft. "but he said he was out to get breakfast only," she says, her heart skipping a beat.
"yeah, he did," her dad says. "he's really upset about this. he's upset that you're upset," aria frowns slightly, looking down at the table. "but he cares so much about you, aria. i'm glad you're marrying someone like him."
"i mean, it'll still be a few years before the wedding but thank you," she lets out a sad laugh, joining her hands together in front of her. "he really came to talk to you?"
"yes he did," her dad tells her. "he really does want the best for you."

aria shuts the front door softly, turning around and leaning her back against it, a small smile toying on her lips. she really was lucky to have shawn. he took time out of his day to go talk to arias dad, just so her dad could come and see her.
she walks over to the kitchen, a slight relaxed and happier composure over her, as she quickly washes the utensils in the sink, placing them on the draining rack to dry off. after she had cleaned up the kitchen, she dried her hands on a towel, and walked straight into the bedroom, where shawn was typing away on his laptop, his back against the headboard of the bed, and his legs stretched out in front of him. aria quickly rushes over, moving shawns laptop away from him, before straddling his hips and placing her lips onto his.
"hi hunny," shawn grins, pulling away from the kiss. "did you have a good time?"
"you truly are the best person in my life, i'm so lucky to call you my fiancée," she mumbles, cupping his cheeks in her small hands, as he rests his hands on either side of her waist. "thank you so much, shawn. really, thank you."
"i'm just glad you're happy," she beams widely at shawn, leaning down to kiss him once more. "did you have a good time?"
"it was lovely, shawn," she mumbles, tears pricking her eyes. "thank you so much."
"don't cry, baby," shawn chuckles, bringing her into a cuddle, making aria laugh softly against his torso. "i'm happy you enjoyed it."
"shawn," aria says suddenly, getting herself out of his grasp, still seated on his lap. "my dad told me what's happening in my family, and i hate every single part of it," she tells him softly. "they're not letting him answer his own fucking phone, shawn. it's getting bad."
"when i went to see him," shawn starts, sighing gently. "he was so cautious of everything."
"really?" aria squeaks out, letting a single tear roll down her cheek.
"it'll all settle out, baby. i promise. you just have to hang on a little longer, that's all," he says, kissing her forehead gently. "but, we're heading on tour in two weeks, we'll be travelling again, aria. it'll help to get your mind off things."
"i'm excited for that, truthfully," she says to him quickly. "i just don't want this to continue forever."
"i understand," he says softly, brushing the stray hairs away from her forehead with his fingertips. "sometimes i wish my family were ignoring me too, so i would feel what you are feeling, and share your pain. i'm sorry."
"what?" aria asks, moving away from him slightly. "no, shawn, don't say that. it's the worst pain to feel. i don't wish this pain upon anyone."
shawn stays silent in response, as aria sighs gently, resting back against him, cuddling close to his chest.
"i just want to forget it all, but it's so hard not to think about it," she mumbles against his chest, letting a sigh escape her lips. "it's stupid but that's all i want."
"then let me help you forget," shawn says to her, running his fingertips over her sides. she looks up, and shawn sits up. turning them around so she's underneath.
he made love to her all day, making her the centre of attention, and making her completely forget.
